Hello all - Rookie scrapper here. What exactly are logic boards? Are they any type of green motherboard? Only from PC or do printers / copiers / TV etc count also? In your opinion, is it better to trim the fingers off the RAM (more money) or send them to boardsort? Thanks much.
hey mike as a first time scrapper this video is very helpful i really do appreciate you taking your time to help us newbies... i will keep watching all of them and im glad i have you to help i know i have everything to learn so im glad your here Thank You..
Do you think they'd take boards from tvs and old computers that are a little banged up and are stripped of the copper and aluminum? Or should I just toss them in the recycle
Well Mike ... you MADE me do it :D After watching your videos, finally sorted through all my sitting junk: 25 hdd, 9 cd/dvd, 57 gold finger cards, 150 sticks of RAM, etc. So, took me a couple days to sort and research. Now, I'm submitting my first order this week! 22lb.s, $130, $27.50 Priority shipping, $.74 Home Depot box & $9 torx set! Thank you for the videos!! Pack it TIGHTLY so the boards don't move around and shred the box!
One other thing - gloves, yes, use gloves. Had to wipe minor amounts of blood off some items, nothing big, but use gloves! Also, separate the gold ram from the silver/tin ram, much more $$ than sending as 'mixed'.
Hi Mike, I just started deal with boardsort.com. I was wondering under what category do small laptop boards like wifi boards, audio boards and other small pieces like fall under. Are they considered mid grade green boards? Also what about laptop motherboards?
Hey mike is boardsort relieble? I ask u this because i read on the site that there prices can change without notice. Have u ever heard of someone getting the prices changed on them once they sent there parts?
Hi Mike, nice vid. Are "trimmed" RAM boards those you have removed the fingers from? And mother boards, do they but them after the CPU and other gold has been removed. Going to their site and they may have answers there.....thanks!
after you remove the fingers on ram it would be fingerless and yes they do buy them. As far as the motherboard. If you remove all the parts that did not come with the board that is still a motherboard. You will want to separate the cpu & ram so you can sell separately
Thanks for the tip Mike! Wish I had seen this a couple days ago. I found some nice clean copper heat-sinks in older restaurant POS systems, specifically the PosX Brand of POS systems, but the older heavier ones with the metal encasement, not the plastic . They were all-in-one pc's bascially. Anyway, I saw the price for the clean copper heat sinks on the boardsort website price list, and my jaw dropped. i sold them for basically pennies on the dollar at the local recylcler for clean copper compared to what boardsort is paying... ugh! lol... but it's not the last of the copper heatsinks I will have... and I know where I will be selling them next time - thanks again! :) - Howard
I'm stockpiling all my electronic scrap to bring to boardsort on my next trip up to Ohio to visit my family that lives in the area. I grew up east of Cleveland and have relatives that still live in the area. You should check out Cleveland during the warm months, just don't wear anything that says Steelers, Yankees, Ravens, or Miami Heat on it.
Thanks Mike for helping us out. As you give, more will come to you. It has happened to many people time and time again....It is the greedy, and the totally selfish, that is always needy! Just watch...2014 is going to be the year that you and all the people you have helped......finances will multiply!
What do you mean exactly when you say mixed ram and trimmed ram? Also in your opinion is it more worthwhile to sell you boards/ram in this fashion or can you do better by doing the gold recovery yourself?
how do you manage to get ahold of so many computers ? do you like knock on doors or something and ask for them? I have a hard time finding them. I take apart all electronics and my local scrap yard takes even the low end boards from TVs but computers are hard for me to find.
questions: in sending the boards, would you cut the gold fingers off/ remove the gold pins, or leave as-is, do you remove the chips, and whats the top weight (that they will take)? I've a lot of broken boards from gedgets, disk drives, and removed the chips)- will they take those boards, and chips? thanks for the video!
Do they accept broken boards? I have pounds of low grade boards i removed heat sinks and wires ate these accepted? I ask cause the boards in this video are all relatively in tack
I know its safer to sell them lol. I'm well aware of the potential dangers of mishandling the chemicals needed. Especially the nitric acid. I'm just looking to get the best prices I can. So what do you think? Which would be the better route?
There is a lot of other precious metal on the boards. if you burned the boards, there is a lot of toxic chemicals that will get in your lungs and air. Which is not good for you.
Great video as usual, but doe's this mean your'e giving up on gold recovery? and do they take all boards or only logic board's?I have tub's of board's but still have trouble telling one from another. where do you sell your'e magnet's? how about carbon out of transformer's?
If you look at their price list, there's links you can click on which will pop open a new window and will give you a sample photo and description of each board type. For example a mid-grade board is green on both sides and may include power elements such as transformers. Mid-grade boards usually do not contain any plating of precious metal on the board surface, but may have some on any socket connectors that are soldered on.
When you go to the site you can see prices for the day. They will quote you once you have all your stuff ready and pay you the quote even if the price goes down.
Great vid! The recycle center I use will take boards but you get any hardly any money for them. It appears the company you use will pay good money for the boards. Will give 'em a try! Thanks!
I've striped 3 computers and salvaged only 5 rams, 4 hdds, 5 cd/dvd roms. Some old cpus. First I want to get the gold out of everything, but Thats not realy worth it? Our e-waste shop pays 60 euros for 1kg cpus...
the compaq nerd It's much more worth it imo to cut the gold and refine it yourself. In the end you will get more money. Why would they buy them from you in the first place?
Two questions y don't u make videos eney more and I found a 64 in tv on the curb by a garbage can and a 24 in flat but the big one is a old tv better stuff
hey mike master, we are in mexico, and we see the possibility of selling our e-scrap in USA, contact tubimos Boardsort, and I said do not buy outside the U.S., so I wonder if you know if a company buy it internationally, greetings
Boardsort will take those. To get top dollar for them, try to clean any aluminum or steel off the boards. You may need to use a sand bath to get some pieces off. Take a few photos of the boards and e-mail them to boardsort and they will get back with you with a price.
BEEN AWHILE SINCE I WATCHED YOUR VIDEO'S LIKED THE IC CHIPS CLIPS, ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND TUTELEDGE, PEACE TO YOU AS WELL, AND IT'S FUNNY HOW MANY COMMENTS ARE GOING TO YOUR FB PAGE, MIKE, AS OPPOSED TO THE FB PAGE LEE, WELL KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, STAY SAFE, STAY WELL, STAY WARM TONIGHTS GONNA BE ROUGH, HAPPY SCRAPPING JOE D
i cant stand mike the scrapper it is people like him that irritate me because he is sharing secrets of the business its like everyone becoming a pc tech then before you know it your out of a job because everyones doing it. refining and processing is a industry that the more people that jump in and do it, it hurts the prices for people like me i dont like it. i dont mind sharing information from time to time for those that are willing to do the footwork. It makes me mad that i have dug and dug for the information years of research to know what i know and this guy is just spelling it all out on you tube.
Yea if you in this business for money then yes its bad, but think about all the stuff that would have gone to the landfill, but now there is so much more stuff getting recycled.
i geuss u dont get the concept the more people that learn the business and have it the easy way and dont have to research anything are gonna do it and the more people that do it is less money those who are serious in the business and it drive the prices down i geuss you were handed all the information and feel the need to keep passing it along hope people in your area flood you right out of business
Stephanie Topping Hey, Why dont you stop crying because of competition. Its America, the strong businesses survive and find ways to adapt. Mike is doing a great service. Instead of thinking about YOUR GREED think about how much more stuff is now getting recycled and stuff staying out of our land fills. The more people who know the better!
Hey mike is boardsort relieble? I ask u this because i read on the site that there prices can change without notice. Have u ever heard of someone getting the prices changed on them once they sent there parts?
they are reliable... Prices change like in the scrapyards. what you do is take pic of what you have with weight and send them an email. they will quote you back prices of the day and pay you that price. Even if prices drop further you have your price locked in.
