Selmer Clarinets with Black Keys - Presence and Privilege 

Love the way the Privilege sounds. Warm clarinets give me the fuzzies!

What I like about Simon Bates testing saxophones and clarinets, is that he can capture the unique essence of an instrument in merely 20 seconds of playing it. One can feel for what each instrument is really good for. While many reviewers would play same classical piece on both clarinets and yet sounded same on both, Simon’s improvised melodies were different for each, brought the difference of sound, and yet both sounded better than any lengthy review found elsewhere.

The black keys can be accredited to, in large part, Michael Lowenstern who originally had an all black Selmer bass. Selmer has, as a result, recently adopted the similar black nickel on their soprano clarinets.

I tried a privilege about a year ago in my local music shop i've been a buffet player since 1970 but would consider Selmer clarinets today. I also play Peter Eaton clarinets. which are fantastic they are larger board instruments after the British tradition. - God bless you both in the New Year -Bill - UK

I really actually preferred the Presence model. The Presence would be the Jazz Clarinet, me thinks. 😀💕💕🎵

What I want to know is how would Sonny Rollins's "You don't know what love is" sound on the clarinet. 😎

Preferred the Privilege , its tone resembles more my Selmer 10S ( made in 1978 ) using a Vandoren B40 mouthpiece which speaks even easier than a Selmer C85 120 and 2 and half Vandoren Java unfiled reeds.
