Plastic waste is toxic. You need to remove the plastics in landfill. You need to convert the plastic waste to kerosene fuel and sell it and make $$$.

Can the ashes from the incinerator be converted as source of fertilizer for plants and agriculture purposes. That would mean an additional income created.

Hi there, I am a Broadcast Journalism student from Nanyang Technological University. I am currently doing a story about plastic bag wastage in Singapore. Is there someone I can contact to get permission to use this video in my story? Credit will be duly given :) Do let me know. Thank you!

Learn from Sweden on turning wastes to gold and improve further. Instead of planting just trees on Pulau Semakau, how about turning the filled land into fruit plantations?

There is no way that this landfill prevents contamination of the ocean outside it.

I was wondering if the waste could be explored further to make torazo like those found used in the national gallery supreme court wing.. reason.. it is a natural cooling stone... The waste could explore for building materials and even road tiling... And we can maybe consider going vertical up.. and make our own mountain in one of our islands... use that mountain for growing agricultural food.. maybe even rice.. And another area recycling for whatever raw materials we need.. Even for energy.. via heat.. or steam... or making solar materials..

Isn't burning trash bad for the environment? So isn't this method doing more harm than good as it release excessive CO2 into the air and rises global warming? Tell me I am wrong 🤔
@andreespina9747
@andreespina9747 5 лет назад
well not everything is black and white. even though it produces CO2 it also as said in the video lengthens the lifespan of the landfill and i also heard it provides electricity. so im pretty sure the benefits outweigh the costs. anyways Singapore reduces carbon emissions by controlling the amount of cars and also the many trees planted in Singapore

There are extensive filtering systems that the gases and chemicals go through before they are disapated into the air, majority of what come out is actually steam the rest is transferred to be used as electricty
@jk35260

Not necessarily. The burning is used to generate electricity and hence has the net effect of reducing the energy demand for other power plants. However the efficiency of the incineration plant to generate electricity matters. If it is inefficient, then there will be a lot of waste heat. Another positive effect of incineration is that it allows for much of the pollutants to be filtered. If you compare this with the typical landfill where waste is buried, some of the waste will still breakdown, releasing CO2 and other pollutants into the air and soil. The breakdown process is very slow but it grows with size. In many countries, not all the waste is buried and practice open waste burning.

Closed loop Incineration is burning without air supply. Thus Carbon dioxide produced is very minimal compare to open burning.

Buying land from Malaysia is a great idea assuming the seller is willing. Alternatively, a takeover by force may be necessary and doable.

The Indonesians do have 2 small islands, Pulau Semakau besar/kecil/panjang. They are in Indonesian waters. It is just a misunderstanding.

MH B KATAB. Misunderstanding of what? Indonesia should sell those little islands to Singapore, which can put idle wasteland to productive economic use. If they remain in Indonesian hands, those clueless people are sitting on the proverbial gold mine.

It is a big liar that semakau filled by waste disposal. Mostly filled of sand from Indonesian near islands.
