Full coverage of the men's single sculls rowing semi-finals from Eton Dorney as part of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Rowing has been staged at all the editions of the Olympic Games, except in 1896 in Athens. It was, however, on the programme, but a stormy sea compelled the organisers to cancel the events.
Women made their debut at the Games in 1976 in Montreal. They competed in a smaller programme. The Olympic Games in 1996 in Atlanta marked the introduction of the lightweight events.

i agree, it would be nice to get someone that knew what to say at points in the race aside from things any nonrower could tell with half a brain

apparently it does, but it's actually beneficial for boat speed. they've done some analysis on it and it's better than having the blade closer to surface.

this is a sport for tall people! :(

christopher figueroa naaaah it's not. You can be short but very strong and with a very good technique. And remember, if you are tall, you will have to carry more weight! And that is crucial in the technique.

Emanuele Bracci you’re kinda right but you’re also really wrong if that makes sense. I’m pretty short as a rower (170cm), and the national teams always look for tall people, so i have a hard time getting selected. Even though you can be a very good rower with a good technique and strength, the taller you are, the longer your strokes can be. This means that you can win up to 10cm per stroke as a tall rower relative to a shorter rower. And about weight, the heavier you are the more weight you can move the boat with, which means you can go faster (if it’s muscle weight of course). Why else would heavyweights go faster?

You’re right rowing is all about leverage and if u have a long wingspan u have good leverage.
