Mithun is traditionally being reared under a free-range forest ecosystem in which the animals are let loose in the community forest without providing shelter and any supplementary feeding except occasional salt. This system has many short-comings and has caused a great loss to the farmers due to constant predator attacks, decreasing forest coverage and inability to monitor their mithun. Therefore, it was imperative to find out an alternative rearing system. ICAR NRC on Mithun has developed an alternative package of practices of mithun rearing under a semi-intensive rearing system and the same has already been practiced successfully in the Institute Mithun Farm for the last two decades. The video contains information about the semi-intensive mithun rearing system and other mithun husbandry related infromation.
