Its not a comeback, its taking advantage of the downhill. The guys in the front were skating way past the downhill inclination point. The winner was precise so he had more speed in the end. The only factor affecting this could be body weight and air resistance but since its a race im assuming that theres a weight regulation and every other skater already have good form against the air resistance, so that shouldn’t be a problem.
Awesome ride. I think it was just plain clever strategy to stay behind the lead at the start. Because at around 0:55 he positioned himself behind purple guy to use the slipstream (an area of reduced air pressure or air resistance behind the purple guy ) to be able to accelerate at a higher speed compared to the 2 front guys and win the race. Exactly like how they do in cycling and motorsports like the F1. Brilliant work.
I found it amazing on how much ground he had to make up! It's gotta be his skates (bearings and wheel combo) and aerodynamic profile to catch and pass those two in front of him as there was no drafting involved!

The tuck down position (one speed skaters use) not only offers lower wind resistance but also vastly increased balance. Skates also gain a bit of a balance edge at speed (although that can back fire with the speed wobble if you're not careful).

Wind, you have to be in a super aerodynamic position in order to skate that fast as soon as you stand up you vastly increase wind resistance and slow down
He used the front 2 for a slip stream, at first its a gradual but the closer behind he gets the more effective. I theorise that's why he let them go first lol

( sorry im trying to be a better person but this needs to stay) If you have ever ridden a bicycle you know its easier to bike behind them as they are breaking the wind aka slipstream these guys are going faster than bikes cause they are going downhill.
