Hard to believe you can forge a career as a "food critic". 😁 And why do they always come across as such pompous irritants?

I’m the home “chef.” All my friends and family say I’m the best they know, and I only cook fresh. BUT, I wouldn’t even begin to cook at this level. My food may taste good, but it’s everyone fending for themselves in my house. Don’t be too savage when judging these chefs… that competition must be incredibly difficult. I couldn’t do it.

Best thing about watching these is learning new skills and dishes that I’ve never though of (or knew what to do with). I’d love to hear more from the competitors since they’re all professionals.

I cooked & served a four course meal, based on medieval recipes for 60 people. In planning it, I timed when each component was to ready to be served. So when the Brie tarts left the one oven, the salmon was put in the oven. Other items were chosen so that they could be ready on time. Courses were planned so that they were cooked & ready to be served appropriately. The tarte tartin should have been put in the oven as the main course was being plated.

I had one assistant and 10 servers. Items such as citrus segments should have been prepped earlier, ready to add to the dish. These chaps are not really chefs, not even cooks. It’s embarrassing.

Great program. I feel the Paper Critics were a _little_ too full of themselves, but the guy from Waitrose was harsh too. Tough breaks. I think all in all given the level it was fair though: as Michelin judges are very keen on balance of flavours, you can't be too 'out there'. But props to the last 2 Chefs here, they were amazing: lateness is Greatness! 😁

Added...any person that makes their living as a critic needs to be put to work in a REAL job. We all have our own opinions, but those that have this job in the media yield power they really should not be able to. This goes for any critic in any field or industry. The consumer at large should be the ones who determine success or failure...not these pompous irritants.
