Lovely Rendition by Semmangudi mama with Maestros ! NenarunchinAnu annitiki is one of the fast paced interesting song composed by St.Tyagaraja set to a rare raagam, Malavi. Adi talam Malavi raagam, a janya of Harikambhoji raaga, is believed to be invented by St.Tyagaraja himself. P nenarunchinAnu anniTiki needAsuDani nEnu needupai || Oh Srirama, please be affectionate. I am incapable of adapting such stone-hearted ways. Oh Srirama, you are very dear to Tyagaraja. Malavi Ragam :- This rare ragam is a janya of Harikhamboji. There is a belief that Saint Thyagaraja invented this ragam. There is a raga by name Malavi in Hindustani Music also. I do not know who has imported from whom. People get confused with another known ragam Saraswathi Manohari. The scales of the two ragams are given below and one do not find much of a closeness. Perhaps our experts may explain this. Saraswathi Manohari Aro S R2 G3 M1 D2 S Av S D2 N2 P M1 G3 R2 S Malavi Aro S R2 G3 M1 P M1 D2 N2 S Av S N2 D2 P M1 G3 M1 R2 S Popular song in this ragam is Nenarunchinanu Annitiki of Thygaraja Swamigal There is a Hindustani raga by name Malavi. ( in some sites, it is mentioned as Malav ). From the name, I guess that it might have originated from the Indore region, which is known as Malwa region. Though ragam Malavi in Carnatic style is in the Harikhamboji melam, as per Rajan Parrikar, the Hindustani raga is a part of Poorvi Thaat and not Khamaj Thaat ( which is close to Harikhamboji ). Mr Parrikar also mentions that there is no consensus in the swaroopa of this rag. With so much of confusion
When they begin the Chittaswaram for the krithi, due to a confusion each one sings a part of the Swarams and Sri T N Krishnan is confused as to whom to follow. Semmangudi soon realizes this and to stop the chaos exclaims "Iruda ! Iruda ! (Stop ! Stop !)" and then begins the chittaswaram from the beginning.
You have a really keen pair of ears. I only could figure that out after you told me :D Hilarious. Semmangudi mama's wit is another art form of its own class :D
