To Shashank Ravichandir : If possible, please add to the desciption that this is from Semmangudi's a) Airport Concert from about 1967, so that people looking for SSI's marivere renditions avoid repeats. SSI can be heard singing this kruti on youtube on the occasions of b) his Music Academy 1968 concert, and c) when (with video) Balmurali Krishna accompanied him on viola. For this rendition his accompanists were Lalgudi Jayaraman, Tiruchi Shankaran, and Alangudi.
"Ananda bhairavi " is a sampoorna ragam having all 7 swarams, still not a melakarta ragam, as it has vakra prayogam and uses anya swaram in comparison with its parent ragam. The anya swaram is the usage of Shuddha Dhaivatham (D1) in some phrases of the ragam; three anya swarams are Antara Gandharam (G3), Chatusruti Dhaivatam (D1) and Kakali Nishadham (N3). that occur only in prayogas (not in arohana avarohana). It is said that Tyagaraja Swamy as well as Muthuswami Dikshitar do not use any of the anya swarams in their compositions. The popular Aananda bhairavi patterns are "sa ga ga ma", "sa pa", and "sa ga ma pa". The musician isn't allowed to stay long on Nishadam, this characteristic distinguishes it from Reetigowla. Few allied ragas (similar) to this are Reetigowla and Huseni. Here the Shyama sastri kriti - "Marivere gati evaramma mahilo nannu brochutaku" is sung beautifully by the maestro SSI, the sangeetha Pithamaha. Pranams to the great soul.
