Music video by Angela Gheorghiu, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Sir Georg Solti performing "Sempre libera". (C) 1995 Decca Music Group Limited
This was my first opera I listened, when I was just six years old, Angela Ghoerghiu has an important place in my heart because I decided to study Opera after I listened La Traviata. Thank you, Angela, now I'm 15 and the next year I start to study as a soprano. I hope to enter in the Conservatory (I live in Milan and the Conservatory of Milan is very important in the world!!)
@@scotty6124 All I listen to is opera, have many recordings spanning the breadth of the genre and can tell you that the music is often times the only thing saving these creations. The plots, characters and settings were often the popular garbage of their times and suffered all the usual shortcomings of popular media. It was usually littered with spectacle and overwrought emotionalism as operas were incredibly expensive to produce so they had to be winners every time (think the blockbusters of their day). If you were a composer who had two failed opera's in a row, your career was pretty much over unless you had good standings and connections with either the aristocracy or financiers (depending on the time period). The press and audiences were just as brutal as they are today which added tremendous amounts of pressure to succeed. The point being, opera was often (but not always) risk averse with much of it being the stuff of parochial, historical tastes and trends much like media is today... but the beauty of the music is what saves it.
She looks so fragile and timid and happy, but, in fact, the all escene is a powerfull combination of natural talent and rigorous work. The result is a scary and worring vision of an inhuman perfection.
I was never a huge fan of Angela Gheorghiu for a while, I thought she was a great singer, but it never clicked...and then I watched her in Traviata and she COMPLETELY changed my mind. She is so wonderful in the role of Violetta, I love her in the repertoire!
Del resto i DO ribattuti nello stesso brano li esegue tutti e ben lanciati, squillanti, corposi, performance ottima.... 💕💕
@@normanzurich2781egr.

Since Verdi's La Traviata is a soprano's opera I'm terribly happy that I bought this DVD in blu-ray recorded at Scala di Milano conducted by Mazeel with Ramon Vargas and Roberto Frontali, that's a master piece and Angela Gheorghiu sang beautifully like a real Diva Divina collecting tremendous ovations not only during the opera play but at the closing opera as well as the end of each famous aria! She is indeed our GOD blessing! Let's pray to OUR Lord to take care of health, forever!
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful! Irresistible Lady, sensible singing, brilliant aria! Beautiful everything. The more I listen, the more I’m falling in love with all of them!
I just can`t get over her. Her voice is sooo humanly perfect. It`s so freely produced. god I never heard someone like her nowadays. and so beautiful still
And two days after discovering this video, I can now say I've watched it forty-seven times... it's an INCREDIBLE performance of one of my all-time favorite arias! My brain just goes numb every single time!
VIOLETTA Oh! ALFREDO … dell’universo intero,… VIOLETTA Oh! I love that tippy top notes are not squawked out like so many do because it's so high, but they're gently executed. It's a role that, like Norma, really proves to be a REALLY difficult feat because it is supposed to be sung by a full lyric, yet has this fast cabaletta that lighter sops do better. It's a killer aria.
All the opera singers sing so beautifully and so differently - they're all beautiful and charismatic in a different way. I just wouldn't know what to buy if I wanted to buy one copy of each opera I liked. I wonder how many are available from public libraries. It was lovely hearing Angela Georghiu singing with Roberta Alagna in the 1990s - they were both so good, they had such beautiful voices and it was very romantic having them singing together!
What a comment from a colleague of the guild..!! I cannot make any comment on your comment.. Angela IS great, and will always remain in the history of the operatic music as one of the GREATEST VOICES and one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMEN on stage!! FOR SURE!! Long may you live, ANGELA GHEORGHIU!! We love you and admire you, and respext YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS. ❤❤❤❤❤❤🌷🌷🌷❤❤
Brava Angela and a great tribute to your idol, the wonderful Virginia Zeani. I hope all your fans will follow her as you have done with such sincerity.
i cannot sing but it doesn't take a singer or a professional to see what's wrong and bad with this singing. i like gheorghiu, she's my favorite soprano of today but you have to admit, this is sloppy singing. the coloratura in "Gioire!" is obviously incorrect and she sometimes sound too shaky.
Y’all prefer other sopranos but you always come back here to listen to Angela’s version , ahahahah , there is nothing to compare , Angela has the most beautiful voice ever recorded❤️
Totally disagree- not able to hit the high notes makes the performance not as good as a lot of other sopranos today like Oropesa, Feola or Nadine Sierra. Don't understand why she is not even trying to hit the high notes - mediocre performance to say the least
SuperMinimozart Anyone who imagines Gheorgiu is an acceptable Violetta has woefully low standards, indeed. Callas, Sutherland, Tebaldi, Ponselle, Sills, de los Angeles, Cotrubas, Bellincioni, Ricciarelli, Caballe, Sayao, Moffo, Scotto, Varady, Gardow and Gruberova were all far superior to Gheorgiu as Violetta.
Impossible to"confirm" this from a performance back in 1994, unless there is some written or recorded conversation or interview by the costume designer. But you can judge for yourself as there are several RU-vid videos about 'Sissi' and the portrait painter Winterhalter. Or do it the "old fashioned" way and look for some books about them. Both Angela and the empress were and are very beautiful women. "Sissis' life was portrayed in a series of movies "back in the day" starring the wonderful Austrian actress, the late Romy Schneider. Poor lady, the empress (not Romy), came to a very sad ending as she was assassinated and bled to death.Very operatic, in a way. So it goes... Life imitating art, or art imitating life?
If you watch the beginning of this production, the party, she has her hair in an elaborate updo with ornate flower/star pins, reminiscent of the empress's hairstyle !
Onel gesta schrlta divine Giorgiu Vi si d arte e Garancha Mon coeur se ouvte a ta voix come di Aznavur on a tous de geni gracie merci danke spasibo hvala
(eye roll) Thanks Madam Librarian! I think we ALL know by now that Verdi never wrote that E-flat but one can't deny it has become an unofficial tradition; one looked for by many ardent opera fans. Unnecessary? Certainly, but so was that scrumptious chocolate ice cream sundae I had yesterday with dinner. The irony is clearly lost on Verdi "scholars" who scold "show-off divas" -- the inclusion of that note is fun, thrilling and ... DEFIANT! -- the very essence of Sempre Libera.
What a treat. Her physical beauty can almost rival her vocal beauty. To me, the looks of a singer is secondary to his voice. But when a singer is so beautiful, I just have to say God is too kind to have given us someone like this.
