American Voters won't allow Blinken to answer. The key factor is that sanction only works if complying to sanction will yield a better result for the target. Meaning that in order for sanctions to work on Iran, US has to make sure Iran and others come out better by following the sanction. The Iran nuclear deal was supposed to achieve that. Basically, if Iran halts the nuclear program, then US must provide economic incentives that boost Iran economy to outweight the abandonment of their nuclear arsenal. And US didn't do that, because the US audience won't allow that. They don't care about actual cause and effect of politics, they just care if they government is TOUGH on who they don't like. The fact acting tough will be detriment on US is actually immaterial, because the voting audience lacks the education and patience to learn about it. Both Blinken and Cruz also know this, but they must keep up the charade, because it is a public inquiry, meaning the voting audience is watching. So if they are actually having a private, honest conversation, it will instead go like this: Cruz: "the Iran sanction didn't work". Blinken: "Of course it's not going to work. If you back them into a corner with no way out, they are just going to fight it out. If you want it to work, you gotta give Iran an way out." Cruz: "We (the Republicans) can't do that, the voters will eat whoever give that order alive" Blinken: "If you can't do it, then why on earth would we (the democrats) be able to do that?" The same applies to China, Russia, North Korea, Serbia, etc. Again, sanctions only work if complying will be better than not comply. The way it works right now, if you comply to US sanction, that just means US is going to squeeze you more in the future. So it is way better just to fight it from the start.

When Donald Trump wins this election, I would be very happy to see Ted Cruz appointed to be the DOJ. Ted Cruz understands the constitution like very few people do.
