It seems strange to think that all unions would be bad ... or good, even. Some would be good, some would be bad. And then there's the possibility of salvaging good from bad, something worthwhile.

Bob Hawke originally de-registered the BLF. What we see as women is wages were kept very low in those industries seen to provide employment primarily for mostly women. I do not disagree with this statement per se, however, I think there are wider historical issues that need to be taken into account. If people go back in history and look at early manufacturing in the Industrial Revolution, women were always employed in factory manufacturing roles in part due to their superior dexterity. They were never what anybody would call well paid jobs. Historically, men worked outdoors and underground, women worked indoors....or more correctly, that is how it played out in countries were the economy was not dependent on slavery. That entrenched stereotype of women in low paid jobs is over 300 years old and extremely hard to shake. I was a child in the late 1960s growing up in a small country town. I cannot adequately put what Australian life was like back then into words. To some extent, I recall mainly younger girls and newly-wed women working in regular jobs, while the married women with children tended to be homemakers, or only took on part-time work between school hours. Thinking back, and I was only a kid at the time, I kind of remember the transition period where more married women left home and went to work in 9 to 5 jobs.

The They Vote For You site shows a lot of absences all over the place from different parliamentarians ... including Ms. Lambie.

If you compare Lambie to David Sharma and Penny Wong at the They Vote For You site, it is a lot more complicated. Lambie has sided with the Libs on increased controls on welfare recipients and scrunity on visa holders. And then there's the controversial medevac vote where she sided with Libs very publicly and at the cost of much criticism. She had sided with Sharma on scrutiny of Government, and times exceeded both LNP and Labor in her support for transparency & scrutiny of government, siding with Rex Patrick & others. Perhaps that's siding with the Greens, but not everything the Greens support is bad.

I've been critical of elements of how this was handled. Still, when it comes to excess deaths, WA has not experienced what the Eastern States did. There's other things at work as well.
