Thanks for the clear explanation. Especially the possibility that the broadcast is not cut off on a message is what I was looking for a while. I look forward to a sequel.
Great video. I literally just got done configuring this new integration with HomeAssistant BEFORE seeing your video. It would have been way easier and saved me hours of brain damage if I had found your video before doing it myself with their not-so-great-instructions)! I also had the same problem as you of getting the error and it took me a while to figure out how to delete the credentials so I would again get the prompt window to re-enter them, so good call on pointing out what to do in that situation. After the integration set up, I could not figure out how to create a button in HA that sends the command to Google Assistant (which is why I went searching and came across this video you posted 5 hours ago). You did not cover that part, but I just figured out how to do it by creating a new script and then creating a dashboard button that triggers that script. Works great! Anyone looking to set up this integration, watch this video which will save you a lot of time and headache.
Not sure if you solve the music issue yet,but there is away automate music and playlists in home assistant (atleast spotify), and play them on any connected speaker in the house. I think Paul hibert had a video on it if you want to have a look.
I'm curious, if I have a matter device added to Home Assistant, will it also be visible and controllable in google home if I scan the QR code? in other words can I view and control a matter device from both HA and Google Nest/Home interchangeably?
Great step-by-step guide. I accidentally typed in the wrong clientID/secret into my Home Assistant when setting up the Google Assistant SDK integration. Do you know where that is stored so I can remove the old incorrect one credentials and update it with my new credentials? Right now, it uses the old credentials automatically which gives me a "Access blocked: This app’s request is invalid" response.
broadcast does not work for me maybe because i can't turn off ipv6 on my modem. When i use 'Google Assistant SDK: Send text command': "broadcast this", then my google home says "all right broadcasting" and then nothing... So it seems to me it should be possible to get it to work properly. Any ideas?
If you are looking to control your Android phone, look into Tasker. It is super powerful and you can setup communication between Home Assistant and Tasker with various plug ins. Let me know what you specifically trying to do and I might make a quick tutorial on it.
Thank you! Can I stop my Google Nest Hub from repeating what I ask? In other words, when I say: "hey Google, turn off the bedroom light," I just really it to do the command and not say: "turning off the bedroom light." It actually happens on my Google Nest Hub Max but my smaller hub repeats everything I ask back. Thanks for your help!
I tried 3 times and i don't get the success message in HA in the end. I get "Loading next step for Google Assistant SDK" and then just "Close". Also in Integrations i don't see any Google Assistant. Any tips? :(
No, you can set up Google Assistant control in Home Assistant without paying for Nabu Casa. It just takes getting API keys, and setting up external access to Home Assistant. If you scroll down to the “Manual” section it explains what is required. www.home-assistant.io/integrations/google_assistant/#manual-setup-if-you-dont-have-home-assistant-cloud
Very unstable right now. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Doesn't matter the target selected it is playing all over the house. But sounds very promising anyway..
Really? Are you saying the broadcast or also device commands? It worked every time I tested it on my network. Do you have any issues when sending commands from your phone?
Zigbee connections will do it. However you will also need a controller for those zigbee devices (such as smartthings hub). Or you could just use bluetooth connections too.
I am stuck - I have done all the SDK setup and I can send broadcasts - but how can I set up a voice automation in Home Assistant where I can say "Hey Google, I'm home" and it will turn on the lights I have configured in HA?
That's sort of the opposite of what the SDK does. The point of the SDK is to be able to control lights and devices that are in Google Home but not controllable and home assistant. If you want to control lights that are in home assistant with Google Home then you can either do the nabu casa subscription for the easy way or you can manually set up Google Assistant in home assistant. I know that's confusing and they probably need to do a better job of differentiating them. But once you have your lights in home assistant exposed to Google Home then you can set up a routine in Google Home to respond to the I'm home phrase. Let me know if you need more clarification!
@@ThisSmartHouse gotcha. I do have Nabu Casa - but does that mean I can't create an automation in HA (one that involves lights, maybe a switch or other device) and be able to trigger that automation with a phrase I say to Google. For example: when I say "Hey Google, trigger the alarm" - it see the alarm automation in HA that triggers my Ring camera alarms. That can't work like that?
