This has to be one of the GREAT recordings of this GREAT song. Diahann Carroll is so absolutely superb. Her focus is intense and there is a story being told inside that only Carroll knows. What an actor. I love the musical, art, costume, and camera direction.
The meaning of Sondheim's metaphoric masterpiece became crystal clear to me through Ms. Carroll's wrenching rendition. You can see how deeply the words affected her, and in turn she brought me newfound love for this number.
