Considering that SHE was an auror BEFORE she taught Harry’s dad and his friends? She only changed careers after her husband died. Also, her “canon” character was a 2nd year when Voldemort graduated Hogwarts.
We need a series of mcgonagall hearing about whatever shit Harry’s got up to where she’s just there like “for fuck sakes, not again. Why can’t he just find a box of chocolates instead of a plot that almost kills him” 😂
Just like Joanne herself. I imagine the queen of the TERFs and the queen of the ministry would get along swimmingly in real life. They're both hateful little toads. It boggles my mind that the woman who wrote a story about how bad wizard-nazis are somehow managed to throw her hat in with a group that's has an awful lot of real nazis attending their events.
I do love how in this moment, Harry was literally just sat there, fully absorbing the fact that McGonagall hated Umbridge more than the students - AND ACTED ON IT.
McGonagall doesn't hate the students! She may be tough on them, but in fact she cares about them a lot. That is truly why she is tough on them, demanding the very best from them, so that they can become the very best. Contrast that with Umbridge, who actively hates the students, and does everything in her power to sabotage them, from school work that doesn't actually teach them anything to cruel and inhumane punishments.
@avejantzero9090 well tbf you can tell there's some students she isn't fond of because of their families and upbringing. Bur she doesn't take it out on students unlike Snape.
Molly was a downright awful cunt for her treatment of Sirius Black. He was Harry's rightful parent. He was qualified to be so. It was James and Lilly's wish. Sirius was loyal protective and fatherly.
@@adrtit He was legit such a good teacher! Like aside from traumatizing poor Neville and turning Draco into a ferret (which was probably deserved, I don’t entirely remember), he actually did a great job. Like he gave in-depth classes with hands-on experience. Like, yes, actually performing the three unforgivables in class was not the ideal way to teach, but at least they learned them in a school-setting before having to face them in a war?
@moonbabescosplay8331 I'm not disagreeing with you, but at that point the war, or at least the battle of hogwarts when the students were forced to fight, was still several years in the future.3, to be exact. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you argument here, about seeing the curses in a safe setting, only really works if you know the war is going to happen. At that point, voldemort was still a shrunken ugly baby with no nose, so they didn't know. Sure, Barry crouch jr *hoped* it would, but even then, he wouldn't want to help prepare the soldiers of the other side. I think that his entire motivation was just to traumatize them, and possibly keep them out of commission for the coming battle.it definitely was successful on Neville, as you pointed out, and I think that if the battle oh hogwarts had been that year instead of 3 years later, he definitely would still have had PTSD from that. I'm not trying to start an argument, I just wanted to point out another way to view this. Have a nice day ❤
Honestly, OotP benefited from editing (it was the weakest part of the series, imho, and the unnecessary longness was part of that.) But Maggie Smith would have chewed the scenery with this one. I'm glad at least we got that hillarious scene of her teaching the Gryfindors to dance.
I hope that Harry invited BOTH Professor McGonagall and Former Professor Umbridge to whatever installment ceremony Aurors get when he joined the force/office/whatever they call it.
this is absolutely accurate. i loved this bit in the books. mcgonagall straight up yelled at umbridge that she would personally make sure harry got to be an auror
At first, Harry was elated. Then it dawned on him that fucking Minerva goddamn McGonagall just swore to take a personal interest in his educational success.😂
That’s an even sicker burn when you consider he’s only had one truly competent teacher in his four previous years there. She couldn’t even clear THAT low of a bar 🤣
@@HenriqueOliveira-of5er I actually think he only had one bad teacher before. Quirrel taught muggle studies originally but I don't recall him being particularly poor. Lupin was a great teacher and even taught Harry a powerful charm that saved his life on several occasions. And fake-Moody taught him to resist one of the unforgivable curses.
McGonagall: is it true you yelled at professor Umbridge, Potter? Harry: yes but i- McGonagall: you called her a liar? Harry: it wasn’t my- McGonagall: have a biscuit Potter
I always loved that part. Especially as an American who forgot biscuits were cookies in Britain. XD I found it strange McGonagall would have a tin of breakfast breads on her desk she'd occasionally give out, but not in a bad way. XD
Don’t forget when Harry was sent to Professor McGonagall for talking back to Umbridge and she gave him a biscuit and told him to sit down. Queen Minerva 👑
He had the kids reading their old books because they were frustrated at his lessons that went nowhere. It's a special talent to get kids to watch to study on their own.
It is said that when they made the movies, the movie makers gave the author a picture of Harry and asked her to draw on the lightning bolt herself, and that’s where she put it (on the side).
This is my second favorite Mcgonagall scene in the books. First place for me still gotta be when Mcgonagall tells Neville that he can’t continue her class and just because his grandmother didn’t get an owl in charms doesn’t make it a bad subject and that she shouldn’t have anything to say about Neville after his performance at the ministry a few months ago and Neville just stands there because that’s the greatest compliment Mcgonagall has ever given him
Ok but let’s be honest now, the “Umbridge March” music as I call it playing in the background of this video was so perfect in every way for the character 😂😂😂
I fucking love that you portrayed exactly how Harry was feeling in that moment when McGonagall basically told Umbridge to go fuck herself. "Harry has recieved excellent marks in Defense Against the Dark Arts classes taught by a competent teacher"
I always found it incredibly concerning because that list included Voldemort/quirrel gildory Lockhart, lupin and a literal mass murderer being Barty Crouch junior
-Quirrel was a pretty good teacher and if you consider hogwarts mystery part of canon, then he was muggle studies teacher for years before. -Lockheart was vain and annoying but most of the stories be told were true (other than the fact he wasn't in them) and the cornish pixie lesson would've been pretty on curriculum if it hadn't gotten out of hand. -Remus was smart, he taught all the things in the textbook but made an effort to make it fun. He also made most of the students a lot more confident in their abilities. Literally the perfect teacher. -For a literally half insane death eater, Crouch did a decent job. Students enjoyed his lesson for the most part and they did learn things. Other than lesson 1 where he was doing stuff specifically to scare 2 kids he hated, he was pretty decent. Whereas with umbridge they learned very little, all hated the lesson, and got no practical time despite having a practical exam that year. In conclusion, umbridge was definitely the worst DADA teacher mentioned here.
Not McGonagall being the best teacher ever the whole OOTP😭 1. Throwing cough drops at Umbridge 2. Telling Peeves the right way to unscrew the chandelier 3. Giving Harry cookies for calling Umbridge a lair 4. Honestly she probably completely supported the DA when she found out about it 5. I don’t think she really cared when Fred and George set off fireworks to piss off Umbridge (wasn’t she happy?) Bitch carried that book😭❤️
@@nathanross7448 It was Snape who actually taught him Expelliarmus. All Lockheart ever taught him was how not to cast Protego and how you shouldn’t release pixies.
@@lilchristuten7568 In regards to Obliviate, Lockhart only demonstrated how it backfires. Plus, Hermione is typically the one who uses Obliviate, not Harry.
From the time she gives all of them, including Draco, dentention, bets on quidditch matches with Severus, until she steps in front of her students ( all houses) in the great hall to face Snape. McGonagall's honesty and fierceness is the best of any character, ever.
Fun Fact: Umbridge's actress is absolutely amazing, but she's actually lovely human. My mum has met her and she talked with her for 40 minutes even though she was just there at set.
And I just love that she proceeded with the promise to bring Harry in this job, even if that means she has to give him additional courses every day. She is such a great character and I kind of cry everytime she screams "no" when she thinks Harry is dead. And I dont even know anymore how often I already listened to that book by now.
This was all I was concerned about. Not the good cough drops, Minerva! Give her the menthol halls! Better yet - licorice snaps! A handful of snapping tadpoles right in the kisser 💋
Order of the Phoenix was by far my most favorite of the books to read. It was the one that delved the deepest in the mentallity of Harry. Minerva was also one of my most favorite characters from that book.
Honestly I think his career path choice is a little strange bc like all 7 books he's like "I fucking hate my life why are these people trying to kill meeee" and then he's like "yeah imma do this for the rest of my life" But in the fifth book he seems like he genuinely enjoyed teaching everyone dada and he seems to like watching everyone growing and bettering their skills He should've been a defense against the dark arts teacher thank you for listening to my rant
I completely agree, I feel Harry just got 'Auror' stuck in his head because at that age, everything for him seemed to be leading up to catching Voldemort, the darkest wizard of them all. I think DADA teacher would be way better, he's already shown he's good at it!
I've always wished Harry got to be something other than an Auror. I've always thought he should have been a professional Quidditch player, then a DADA teacher, and spend his twilight years as the Headmaster of Hogwarts.
The fact she said he’d be an auror if it was the last thing she ever did. You can’t tell me that beautiful women didn’t think to herself every once in a while “he’ll never have his mom back but he sure as hell will have me when it matters”
The thing I love about this is that it implies that Lockhart was more competent than Umbitch. Guy couldn’t take a dump without making up a story about a Kelpie attacking him through the pipes.
Uhm Lockhart doesn't exist..he's a fabrication of Hermione's teenaged mind. Hot looks combined with intellectual..inferiority to say the least..uhm yes.
@@heterosapiens_sapiens What makes you think Lockhart is just a product of Hermione's imagination ? EDIT : And also, what did really happen in the second book and movie ?
@@flowerdream2732 it is a joke. But for all we know the entire HP universe could be Hermione's imagination..and actually there is a very dark fan theory saying that the entire HP universe, or at least the magic aspect of it is a complicated hallucination.brought about by Harry's abuse... Secondly.. actually I haven't watched the 2nd movie, I've only read the books, so I wouldn't know.
Kudos to this one and only woman for playing almost every character in HARRY POTTER reboot and reducing the budget by 100 percent while maintaining the quality.
I love that Minerva McGonagal is just so full of “badassery”. She’s my hero…. Sadly, I was already an adult when the books came out, so I didn’t get to grow up reading them. I collected those books to read to my children. As life turned out, I ended up with adult step kids…. But I kept the books and now it’s my absolute pleasure to share them with our grandchildren. :) I hope she becomes our grandkids hero.
McGonagall was one of my favorites in the books when i heared maggie smith was doing the character i can see why . Both can be sassy , cunning , loyalty, sweet , they are both amazing. Somethings though i did wish they put into the movies .
I love when the teachers in HP clearly have beef with each other but they can’t get into it because there are students around or because they would get fired
