It worked! I tried using a framing hammer and it was successful. I then gave the top of the safe a few good hits with rubber mallet as I applied constant, moderate pressure to “door handle” and it opened right open

Depends on what you're trying to protect and against who/what. For instance, if you're looking to protect personal documents or things without a lot of value, AmSec will probably suffice. Some of the older Liberty safes are good too. If you're trying to safeguard and insure several million dollars worth of valuables and you expect it to be attacked by professionals or nation states, you'd want to go for something like an ISM TXTL safe. As a general rule, look at the UL burglary rating of the container. TR stands for torch resistance, TL stands for common tool resistance, and TX stands for explosive resistance. A good container (in my opinion) will have a TRTL-30 rating, meaning that it will resist an experienced attacker using common torches and tools that you can find at the hardware store for 30 minutes. That rating only covers the door of the container. If you want the entire container hardened, that will be indicated by a rating like: TRTL-30x6, meaning all 6 sides of the container. Some brands that make or have made good containers are AmSec, Mosler, Chubb, Diebold, Hamilton, the list goes on. Also, be mindful of the lock on the container. I'm a huge proponent of mechanical locks made by reputable brands like Sargent and Greenleaf or LaGard. Avoid electronic ones because they fail frequently, especially the cheap knockoffs commonly installed on cheap safes.
You may have a model that this method doesn't work on, or the solenoid may be oriented differently, or you may be applying too much torque to the handle.
