Senior Over 70+ No Longer Need to Take a Test to Renew License 

I had not had to take a test to renew my license for at least 15 yrs. At 71, I had to take the test, but I took the e-learning test, and it was so easy

If you’re turning 70 when your license expires, are you able to take e learning course to renew license

Hi there, I'm 72 and already went to the DMV, picture taken fingerprinted, and passed the "C" test but failed my motorcycle test. They told me I needed to reapply and start over, even though I told them I didn't need the motorcycle license. I didn't see any option online for me to take the e-learning test.

Well, i tried to register and the system refused my password no matter what i did. So i now have to go to the dmv and wait forever toget help. Everyone and everything says its so easy. How can you do anything if you cant get registered ? Its all blah blah blah.

I drive a lot almost everyday. One of the rare people that doesn't tailgate etc.. Have been a licensed California driver since 1967. Haven't had a moving violation since mid '70's. The state shouldn't even bother testing me.

The DMV advertises no more testing after 70 years old, yet you have to go through all of these steps just to take A TEST AGAIN! Better off just to make an appointment and get it over with. I worked for the DMV for 15 years and they were just as confusing then as they are now 😡⚓️🇺🇸💙

I just wanted to add my two cents. When I received my driver's license renewal notice 2 months prior my birthday when the license was expiring, I followed the instruction as they were in the notice. I created and account and fill out an application and schedule an appointment and pay the renewal fee. Since I used my email address as my user ID, I received and email from DMV with a link to the e-learning course. I took the course, after each module is a small quiz with 3 or 4 question and no failing, if at first the answer is incorrect it will tell to give a correct answer. In this way anyone can complete the course. Now the fun part is that, when you go to the DMV they have your record. So all we have to do is take a vision test and a thump print and take a new picture and done. I hope it helped any senior for the renewal of their driver's license. This video really helped. The California DMV website WILL NOT ALLOW 70+ the eLearning option until 2 MONTHS BEFORE your License expires. John M.

I'm so thankful to you for this super valuable video!! It popped up randomly on my RU-vid and I'm forever grateful that it did. The on-line eLearning was easy to complete. When I got a little lost in one section, I just rewatched your follow along video and got back on tract. One word of caution to others... once I completed the course and got my confirmation number, I took a screen shot with my phone for added proof. Why?? Because when I went to print out the confirmation number, the DMV site went blank. Went to DMV for vision test and the employee said he didn't see a confirmation number in the system. I showed him the screen shot proof. He punched in the number and voila it was there 🙏

I already took the vision Test and paid for the fee at DMV. Now, I saw this clip and I want to take the test under this program. So, can you please tell me what am I going to do ? Please let me know? I am 78 years old. Thanks.

There is another official DMV.CA.GOV test that I know for sure you can take online here on RU-vid. It has the official logo, verbage (see example at the beginning of the last sentence}. That is the test you want to do here on RU-vid BECAUSE you can either print out your results (pass) or send your results electronically straight to the DMV site. Otherwise, if you physically go to the DMV to take the written test, you must pass the test in only 3 attempts (with possibly one person one either side of you also taking THE test).

What Bull, they just take your money. UGH!

Too much work for shiner citizens

I did not get a renewal notice..maybe misdelivered. Can I still renew DL through e-learning or have to visit DMV for renewal notice? Please advise.

What if I can’t get an appointment for the vision test before my license expires but I can complete the online learning before my license expires?

Am I understanding this correctly? I’m renewing my drivers license which is already a Real ID license, and it’s necessary to bring in a birth certificate and residency addresses again?

Is the e-learning course available for just driver's license renewal or do you have to get a real ID. Also I opted for paperless notifications so only get email reminder. Is everybody eligible to take the test online thru e-learning? Or does it say on the mailing you get that you're eligible? This is confusing. I don't want to wait til the last minute. License expires Oct. 10th. Btw I'm 77.

I had to take the written test

Two days ago 5/25 Sat, I successfully enrolled the eLearning course with payment paid and got receipt with Payment Confirmation Number, but still unable get access to the DMV Virtual Test Center to start my learning, had tried clicking on "click here" wordings several times yesterday and today (Sunday) in same DMV email which showed payment confirmation number although DMV email said Virtual Test Center eLearning course available 27/4days week. Seemed eLearning access still not available or activated, is it because of virtual training center only operates on week days, not on Sat/Sun perhaps also Holidays (incl. 5/27?). Found also DL application confirmation code not shown on email. Please advise how could I resolve situations or get access to or have it activated so able to start course learning ASAP. I'm 81 years old. Thx.

I did all these steps last week before seeing this video. I had no idea this would get me out of the test! When it was time for the survey, I was quite negative haha. One thing, your documents for the Real ID can be government licenses or vehicle registrations or many other things. I used my driver`s licence and a vehicle registration.
