First-time reaction to new Tiny Desk concert as well as songs from the new album. Accompanied by violin/double bass, cello & piano. / wallbangerreactions
FKA twigs is probably my favorite modern artist. She's really got it all. Her music combines forward-thinking electronic production, elegant organic instrumentation, and soft crooning vocals that make you feel so many different emotions. She's also a ridiculous live performer. Her last tour for her MAGDALENE album combined tap dancing, pole dancing, sword dancing (wushu), contemporary, and hip hop all into one epic performance. In terms of her lyrics, they are simple but still emotionally impactful. Lastly, I admire her style so much. She's constantly evolving and changing up her look with every album cycle like a chameleon. I hope you check out more of her, she's a true artist in every sense of the word!
I love watching folks listen to her music/performances for the first time. I feel like everyone connects with her in a slightly different way, because there's so much depth to everything that she does as an artist. great video :)
Some context on her song cellophane: It's basically about her relationship with Robert Pattinson (the guy from the Twilight movies). During the very public relationship, she unfortunately dealt with a lot of racist and mean comments from his fans, which eventually led to their breakup. It seems that twigs internalized a lot of the comments and it made her feel insecure with herself and her relationship. The music video is truly a work of art, you should check it out when you can.
Some context on her song killer: after Robert came Shia LeBoeuf, from which twigs has stated she has escaped from a violent and abusive relationship with, afraid it’s also autobiographical sad to say, nice reaction though, greetings from the uk 🇬🇧
Ps if you’re interested in modern black british music, and you haven’t already heard them I’d recommend you give the following a try… Dave “Black” (live at the brits 2020) & “Leslie” Little Simz “introvert”, “two worlds apart”, “flowers” or tiny desk concert Sampha “no-one knows me (like my piano) Berwyn “Glory” (live at home for later version)
I enjoyed your reaction! It you want to do a deeper dive Magdalene is like her Magnums opus atm, LP1 & LP2 are her more palette friendly experimental works. Mellisa is a bit more experimental and Caprisongs is her more “mainstream” album. I personally love just about every one of these and not every track might be to your taste but there is always something good in there!
The album that the first and last song are from, Magdalene, is amazing start to finish. If you were going to do an entire album reaction, that would be a good one. Some of her albums have a similar sound across them, but Magdalene is very distinct song-to-song, while still being tonally consistent
I'm really interested in seeing your reaction to some of PC Music's catalog. AG Cook "Beautiful Superstar", or maybe SOPHIE "Okay to Cry". 100 Gecs "Money Machine" could serve up an interesting reaction too.
Love twigs! I recommend these songs by her: Two Weeks ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3yDP9MKVhZc.html Water Me ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kFtMl-uipA8.html
