Given all the recent decisions - removing church is just stating the obvious- CoE is now a business. Besides do Christians really want to hear religious tenements from a man who doesn’t know them? Or abuse them? Or even respect them? Now , if he thinks he cancel church then I suggest he read his Bible. Seems many people don’t do that these days and then state their faith while being ignorant of their own faith! It’s madness. Thank goodness or prayers can go up to God from anywhere and we can find a church that isn’t afraid to do as the Bible commands.

King Charles is the Supreme Governor of the Chuch of England, not the Archbishop. The King could not unilaterally sack the Archbishop, it would require much consultation with the Synod and Parliament.
Queen Elizabeth II, who was the epic 'Defender of the Faith', was said to have had 'no fear of death'. Her soul was settled, her conscience clear. It is doubtful Justin Welby could say the same thing. I would not want to stand before the Lord and give account of how he has "led" His Church. He is a disgrace. I truly hope William follows his beloved grandmother's example and becomes a stellar Defender of the Faith.

Prince William is a man who lives by his faith daily. He conducts himself with dignity , humility kindness , compassion , he is dedicated to service and duty to not only The Monarchy UK, The British People & Commonwealth, but humanity. His desire to leave this world a better place for everyone is admirable. I have so much faith in Prince William & Catherine POW too, truly remarkable human beings, wonderful role models much needed in today’s world. As for Welby that’s debatable.

I'm out of my church - officially. But I'm not out of my faith. In many christian denominations has been mistreatment entrenched into the clergy. The church is manmade and fallable. I don't want to be part of that. In my eyes my faith could be seen by my actions and by the way I treat my fellow citizens. But I'm no braggart. I like to do my deeds in silence and privacy.
I am with you. Used to be devout church goer, but has stopped since. Can't stomach what's going on with the church leaders today! I still believe in God - the true God, and try my best to live according to His teaching, not the man teaching!
I have struggled my whole life with the idea of faith. I still do. My mother dragged all of us to Sunday Mass until I was 12-13. She did it because she felt the pressure to turn her children into good Catholics. It ended abruptly one Sunday as she came down with a bad cold, barely able to get out of bed. She had hoped that my father would take the lead and take us to church. Not a word from any of us and that was it. The only times we ever went back to church were for funerals, weddings, baptisms and Midnight Mass. You are right about the church being fallible with terrible abuses going on to this day. I do however find it worrying that JW wants to be rid of the word “church” as I think it is mainly to appease other religions. I would gain respect for him if he were to tackle the real problems of the church instead. Clean it up and make it something to be proud of.
I decided years ago I have no truck all male leaders of the Church. The laws are man-made and arbitrary. My faith is between God and myself. I don’t need anything made up by men.

TRUE! People shouldn't go to church "to be seen". My decision to worship God shouldn't 1) be confined to one day within the walls of a building 2) Nor should it be because of the judgmental attitudes of others, because I've been guilted; nor should it be to "look" good. It should ONLY be for one reason: to worship God; but that can be anywhere. And if a church is teaching woke issues, it's just a political gathering, not a worship service using the Bible without political issues inserted. it's a communion with God only, and Welby has NO say in the matter.
I saw that the coronation of King Charles was a religious ceremony. Parliament nor the political parties had nothing to do with it. William will be anointed by the church as king and will swear an oath by God. I think William will come to understand and honor this.
I may not attend church regularly, but my faith is stronger than ever. I am successfully battling breast cancer. I would not have had the strength to fight if not for my faith. I think Prince William should suck it up and go. After his father and wife are successfully beating their cancer battles, he should be thanking God for their lives. God bless all!
I think it is shocking , for the Archbishop of Canterbury to try to find another word for church. I regularly go to church every Sunday, and I love my church family. Our church is always packed and we have new people joining us every week. I wish Prince William could find a deeper faith like his grandmother had. It would make him happier to have the Holy Spirit in him. I’ll pray him. 🙏🙏
I grew up going to church every sunday, as a adult like many moved away from the church, but my faith was still strong, when my children came along i recommitted to going to church and volunteered in the church community. To me now faith is not about walking into a building it's your action towards god. I used to sit in the pews and many "church goers" would be hypocrite, gossiping and disrespectful, and these are the people that sit there day in day out. Prince william will be a wonderful king and the balance princess catherine bring will undoubtedly make them stronger
My beautiful grandmother when asked why she did'nt attend church very often said that a person does not need to attend church to pray and believe, as one can pray anywhere and God will hear and see you. She did believe in God and was a very lovely lady, Loved by all around her.
Reminded me of Jesus when he wept over Jerusalem. He told them he'd been like a mother hen who'd called the little chick's to get under his wings but they would not. Jesus calls but if no response than his gift of salvation won't work for non-responders.
I am a Christian and I have observed that many people go to church regularly as children and teenagers, probably due to the fun stuff and companionship of things like Sunday School and youth groups. Then they tend to stop going in middle age as life gets very busy and exhausting. Then they often start going again in later life. So I wouldn’t worry too much about Prince William. He is just following the path of life and that’s where he is at right now.
I think about the historical novels I have in the last 4 years depicting WW1 and WW2 and the churches of England were there for solace, support, friendly face with a cup of tea and biscuits, a temporary home and a means of companionship. They were the mainstay of a country in turmoil. Looking at today’s world, churches should look back in history and take some of those lessons.

I adore prince William, and I wish he and Catherine notice all the messages from the public, and how we are praying for princess Catherine , I strongly believe that prayers are heard and the prince we all love so much may hopefully realise that the reason his late grandmother could endure and survive so much , is beacause of her unwavering faith! She never backed down to please anyone when it came to admit and live her Christian faith.

Went to Catholic school 5 1/2 days a week, then Sundays to Lutheran church so both parents had a say in religious exposure. Took awhile for me to find my own compass regarding God and understanding of Biblical teachings but I now have my assurance of where I stand. Full on introspection came with acute myeloid leukaemia diagnosis some years back. I realised I was in a “win win” situation. As God is supposedly within you, why the great need to attend a building to follow His word? I feel anyone can be following the Christian faith without turning up on a Sunday to listen to sermons spouted by woke folk in robes. Nowadays it is easier to go to church since most put their services online. I, personally, don't agree with the rock n roll music. Watching online and participating thru emails and prayer lines makes more sense. I can skip the rock n roll and get "fed" by the preacher. Plus I'm totally disabled so no one wants to pick up an old lady just to go to church. Churches in my area are very liberal. I'll hold on to my reverence for God by doing my own singing and participating via email.
The Christian Church , from inception, has acknowledged the bonds and support of a community , particularly gathered in prayer , both fortified and strengthened, but also adhered to the promise that , that when Christians gather together , that God will be amongst them ! Regarding William , he will come to his own personal realisation , ahead of any Monarchial Obligation .
Because church provides a community of faith based people and a better learning environment to understand His Word. I do know and understand what you mean though, "For where two or three are gathered, there am I.
In the US, we have many denominations that don't have "woke people in robes." There are all kinds of churches, some with different interpretations of the Bible. People can visit them and find one in which they are encouraged to grow spiritually. In the Christian belief system, you may receive the Spirit of God in you, but this is just the start of the journey. You grow closer to God by the work of the Holy Spirit within you, but God uses other people to help you grow into the purpose He has for you. God means for us to be in a family of believers, to train up the next generation, to do good works, and to be a"light on the hill" in a very dark world. I believe this is why the Bible says to "not forsake the assembling of yourselves together."
I am an RC, but I think it would be such a shame if William didn’t take up his Father’s ideas as far as the Church is concerned. In these days of uncertainty in the country, it would be good for William to show to younger people that it’s a good thing to go to church.
It’s a hard one Neil, because faith is such a personal thing. My own view is that while faith can’t be forced on anyone, it can be feigned through a sense of duty. I would much prefer an honest Prince who admits his doubts to someone of lesser character who, because they feel it’s their duty, is willing to feign a faith devout enough to lead the church. As long as each generation of royal children receives Christian Sunday School lessons until around the age of 12, I believe each Monarch should then follow their conscience as to whether they include accepting leadership of the church as part of their coronation service.
Why have the Christian people not been asked what they think? It will always be Church of England to me, and I'm not a regular church goer. Welby should never be allowed to change it without consent from Church of England followers!
Whatever Welby says doesn’t stop the rest of us saying Church. A Church is not a building it is a gathering of people to express their faith, any oak tree will do or wherever we choose. We are not sheep, we don’t have to follow.

It's a very difficult situation for William. I can quite understand it on a small level, because in my 30s and 40s I used to have these "discussions" with my parents about formal ritualistic religion vs faith. I did win out in the end, but also took their point of view into consideration and arrived at a happy medium. Of course for Prince William it's going to be very much more difficult. With his wife and father both with cancer, you would think he would be there all the time praying for their heath. Praying for his wife, praying for the mother of his kids, praying for strength. Where does he think his Grandmother got her strength, her wisdom!? The Queen spent her whole life serving God and her people. If anyone was the example of Child of God, it was Her Majesty!

As a church-goer myself, I naturally believe that the Monarch should take the oath as the Defender of the Faith, especially as you said Neil, Britain is a Christian country. The fact that William apparently doesn't have the same pull towards religion that his grandmother and father have shouldn't really matter - its part of his duty as the future King, I believe.
It may play more of a part than you realize. When I became very ill and almost passed, my husband was very angry with God for many years. He did refind his faith, but it took time. I do think that William will find his faith, but shoving him into it won't help. He must find it because he wants to. So I'd say give him a bit of space. Let him deal with all he's going through. Faith has a way of finding you.
@lyndaf.5604 you learn from experience. My faith has been strong, but I thank my Gram for that. I became physically disabled at 29. I wasn't able to go out much and I would say to Mike (hubby), "I want to see Gram this weekend ". Twice though I got a very overwhelming feeling. I needed to see her, and it must be now! The first time, she was hospitalized for a year. The second was just before she passed. Her daughter was jealous at how close we were and didn't call. When I got there, Gram said she prayed I would come. She was extremely faithful. Nobody can tell me that wasn't God letting me know. If I didn't follow the feeling, I wouldn't have gotten to say goodbye.
I am not a Christian or religious in the regular sense and I can understand WIlliam's relulctance to the church. However, the Monarch has traditionally been the head of the Church of England. Seeing how her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth relied on her deep and abiding faith to guide her leadership through the years, it seems a good anchor to have if he wants to follow her lead. She exhibited true Christian values and was respected throughout the world for her kindess and inclusivity. I hope he steps up and takes on the role. I would also hope he adopts wearing kilts! 🤩
As a point of interest I just watched a RU-vidr break down how much Neil earns with his hard work and daily grind of presenting his cheery face across London etc to us all . The clip was two yrs old . He earns a nice amount ( chase it up yourself , I’m not about to reveal how much but the site is How to know ) ) . I truly believe he earns every penny . Hi, Neil 👋🏾 I follow no specific faith or philosophy but I do believe Prince William should model what the Monarchy has represented albeit modified over the centuries. Imagine if a Sultans, Emirs, Emperors etc of other countries had heirs that decided they were not going to represent their people’s religion/beliefs. It’s part of the culture….
William then hasn't found any comfort in going to church. Some churches focus on form and ceremony, instead of the people going there. I recently attended a mass for a colleague who was murdered, and was shocked at how utterly impersonal and uncaring it was.
Watch both William and George's faces when the former Dean of Windsor, David Conner spoke at the Queen and Prince Philip's funerals. This man's prayers go straight to Heaven. He has Catherine's love and respect (the longer handshake with him, and spoke with him longer than others after the Queen's St George, Windsor interment). Queen Elizabeth had asked the Reverend Conner "if he could see her out", he did and then he retired. William listens to others (Prince Philip), collects and assesses information (from MI5/6 at GCHQ to even a noted expert on narcissism) and applies this to his live and his decisions. William - unlike Charles - isn't wracked by guilt.
Prince William has to get his act together. The church is a very important part of the people and he should take it on when it's his turn to be head of state. Prince William, it's your destiny so embrace it.
This is not outdated or old fashioned. PW will be the head of the Church of England. Very sad statement if he is unwilling or unable to properly assume that role.
Faith. That’s what it’s all about. Question is, did PW and PH attend any sort of Sunday school? If children are brought up going to Sunday school and church yes often times they fall away but eventually come back. I can speak to that as I have two children who did just this. One has come back to the fold, although were different denomination, but nevertheless still attending and raising his children in the church. The other one is a bit busy… Too much life going on. I still say prayers, hoping that nothing happens drastic because often times that draws them back in. Yes, the world today does not recognize what we and our parents did/do. You would think in the crisis that the world is in, more people would be going through the doors of churches! So with that being said all we can do is, pray. And as the late Queen said, “…in the fullness of time.” Perhaps his faith Is being tested during the illness of his wife and his father. God is knocking at the door. It’s very sad that when going through something as hard as your wife and father having cancer, you’d think William would seek the Lord. I suggest we wait and pray for Prince William and his family at such a critical time in Christianity. Once the Lord meets you in your time of crisis and you look back realizing He carried you through, it’s something to be experienced!!
I am 76 and come from a long line of truly committed Christians.I personally haven't been a regular "church goer" since I was 11. I have ,and have always had , a very strong personal faith and I feel I have done my very best to live a Christian life. Imo Prince William and his family, together with the majority of our Royal Family, live exemplary Christian lives . Wonderful role models.
I am curious (no judgement intended here). Since you are not a "church goer," are your children also not "church goers?" Do they have the same strong faith as your older family members? My experience has been that the younger generations are not attending church, and they really kind of make up their own belief system. The live their lives in a much different way than older generations. That is their choice, but in many of them, I see no relationship with God at all. They may be "Spiritual" (have a vague notion that some kind of universal being exists), but that is the extent of their relationship with God.
While I feel that it is part of the Monarch's duty to be Head of The Church of England, I certainly wouldn't want a Monarch who only took the position because they had to - each persons Spiritual experience is personal to them. I DO believe in God, and in Christ. I went to Church from as far back as I can remember (I still have photographs of me, as a toddler, in the Sunday School Parades (hands up if you remember those - of course, now they would be deemed offensive!)). I was brought up as a regular church goer, and was one for many years. I was Christened as a baby, and Baptised when I was in my teens (when I chose to be Baptised). However, I have not been to church for a quite some time. This is because the harshest criticisms, the nastiest gossip, the most unfair judgements, and the most vile, vicious rumours I have ever heard have, more often than not come from the mouths of those who consider themselves as Devout Christians, and are regular church goers (they seem to forget that the Bible tells them "Judge not, lest ye be judged" - admittedly not all church goers are like that, but I have seen/heard that kind of behaviour from the majority, and the hypocrisy is mind-blowing! When you look at how much brutality Religion has been responsible for throughout the centuries (the witch hunts, the Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades), and how much still goes on today, it makes you wonder why anyone is still motivated to go to ANY Church. What has bothered me most recently, is the way the Church has inserted itself into political issues. Welby, and his ilk, are pushing Woke agendas, and need to realise that they are supposed to be a guiding hand in the journey of your relationship with God. The Church is a vessel for your spiritual guidance and, if an individual feels confused about any other aspect of their life, the leading member of that Church (Priest/Vicar/Minister/etc.) can speak with them one on one, if requested to do so, they do not have to make public statements about things they should not be involved in. All should be welcomed equally, with no fear or favour. With all of these issues, it does not inspire me to reconnect with the Church and, unless Church Leaders start to realise that their "job" has only one function - to give guidance, when needed, to reinforce our relationship with God - the Church will continue to lose members of it's Congregation. I find it ironic, in fact quite funny, that King Charles and Queen Camilla were denied having their Wedding in a Church, due to them both being Divorced, when the Church of England was founded due to the fact that Henry VIII wanted a divorce, and split from the Catholic Church - oh the irony! xxx
We all have our OWN WAY of praying whether in church, at home, at a park, etc. It's Prince William's choice, people should stop pressuring him about his faith as long as he believes. Who would want to hear mass anyway with "woke" Welby preaching?!

I think William should follow his Grandmothers example and pledge his allegiance to the Church of England, but Charles has already set a president by becoming keeper of ALL faiths ,and therefore making the pledge to defend his countrys faith worthless , its like an army pledging its allegiance to ALL Kings not just their own , as for Welby , he has no authority to remove the word church , they do not belong to him , they are houses of God , or does he now presume to be more important than God ?
As a worshipping member of the Church of England of many decades, I can tell you for a fact that children schooled in their faith will return to it more devoutly as visible worshippers when mature adults with a little living experience behind them. I've seen it over and over again and I'm not worried about Prince William. Justin Welby now is another matter altogether....a right fox in the henhouse he is and the sooner he's relieved of his position the better....he's just plain power hungry and a traitor to our Faith, BUT...God is not mocked and I rather pity his comeuppance!

I had lost my interest in going to church also. But after my 40’s I rekindled the interest and even though I don’t go every Sunday I go as often as I can.
As Episcopalian Justin Wilby is our archbishop. He was supposed to retire, but then he stayed on because he wanted to be in charge of the coronation. In the Episcopal church there is a mandatory retirement age. I wonder if Justin Welby has already reached that age. Because he was at that age right before the coronation and he wanted to be there for the coronation. This is my opinion, those with connections should look into it in my opinion. And yes, I agree he should resign or retire. He made a mockery of the church,He married his partner. Then he made a mockery of the church by getting a divorce from his partner. He is an embarrassment in my opinion. I agree he should resign or retire.
My dear father lamented the appointment of Justin Welby. My father died 10 years ago at Christmas and he was very anti this - he was often very astute. I think William will probably do far more with the Church. He is not stupid and I think he does get the big picture. I think Catherine will help guide him.
