He would’ve won both seasons. (IMHO) Benneton were cheating and Ayrton would have been relentless off the track about it. He would’ve beaten them on and off track. Also (as a side note) it took hours after his death for bookies to accept the fact that he wasn’t going to win the season.
@@mixolydian9102absolutely. Knowing his character and love for justice. Benneton had launch control, he would’ve protested that, and then they had a clever engine /air intake thing going on that emulated traction control, it wasn’t quite a computer system, but emulated it, and he would’ve pressured FIA to penalise them and ban it. FW16 massively improved after Imola and I think he could’ve fought back, but it would likely be decided in Adelaide. Then 95,96 and 97 would all be an easy championship for Senna. Then he probably retires

Senna Absolutely on the edge, overdriving and pushing beyond what that car was capable of handling. No wonder he ended up spinning. All 3 races he was alive in 94 he drove that car beyond what it was capable. 3 poles.
@@Feuerbasis later that year, the fw16A was upgraded to the B version, much more stable. And Hill managed to challenge schumacher all the way to the last race. @o209 While I agree with Senna's brilliance I don't think he would have easily won 94. Schumi would have absolutely walked it against Damon if he wasn't disqualified from the British GP and then banned for two races. Plus there was the DQ that was quite controversial at the Belgian Grand Prix. I think Schumi in that Benetton absolutely would have beaten Senna at Monaco, so that would have given him 4 wins and a huge advantage....unless we're factoring in that he would also have been banned if Senna was still racing. Anyway, we'll never know but I just don't think it would have been easy for Senna.

Yet Senna was driving the hell out of it and manage to tame it thro pure skills and experience. just look how he past Hill like he is standing still... What an incredible Talent. we just wonder how the season would have been, hell the future years if he didnt have that accident. R.I.P Ayrton, we miss you.
Senna completely outclassed Hill, and yet, by the end of the season, Hill almost won the title. Williams was still the best team, all it took was some time to put in the work and updates. From Spain on, here are Damon Hills finishes.... 1 2 2 1 8 2 1 1 1 2 1 Ret (Crahsed out by Schimacher)
Adrian Newey said Senna was able to do things with this car that this car was not capable. He laped his teamate and to chase Schumacher he has pushed hard, too hard.
Schumacher had traction control on his car, they have recently admitted this, Senna knew by the engine tone of Michael’s car at the time, how could a rookie in an inferior car be leading the best car driven by a three times world champion, Benetton were very clever the way they concealed it.
Rimasi a bocca aperta per quell'errore... mi ricordo che pensai che c'era qualcosa che non andava nell'uomo e non nel pilota... troppa aspettativa troppa impazienza ...avrebbe vinto lui se avesse proseguito nella stagione... R.I.P.
I think we can put a few myths to bed now the era of the podcast is here. The Williams was a dog and was far too cramped for senna. Hill was obviously used to its dimensions. In fact if you see that Ariel shot of senna in the pits the tub looks like a Leyton house, incredibly narrow. Frank dernie said that Rory Byrne was good at picking aero parts that gave high downforce at low speed, hence the car had massive traction. Apparently an old trick that teams with not much money used. Coupled with Schumacher left foot braking meant he could drive 100% in races, especially now refuelling was allowed
Absolutely. One note is that Senna had a pre-contract in place to join Ferrari, likely for 1996. The money that Phillip Morris (Marlboro) had allotted for this was then used to sign Michael. Either way, Senna would have won many, many more championships.
Benetton had the Renault engine in 1995 so it might have been very difficult for Senna. The Williams car was rectified by the Spanish Grand Prix so 1994 could have gone either way. Absolutely no doubt he would have dominated 1996 in that Williams.
@@emilekaram6094 I think Senna would have probably retired after 1996 if he won the title. He wanted five titles to be ahead of Prost and at least 52 victories.
Senna pushing absolutely beyond the limits of that fw16A, the first chassis, still very unstable. Damon hill later said he couldnt match sennas standards driving that williams no way.

Bad aerodynamica, particular with the front wing sometimes picking up more downforce when its closer top the ground (because of a bump of an uphill corner like here) wich makes the rear a tendency for oversteer. Remember the car had active suspension (even ride height) and with conventional suspension IT moves a lot, with the aerodynamics performing in harmony in a small window
@@wasuprobleemjoh Seems like they extended the wheelbase, maybe by 5cm with FW16B and moved the Sidepods back. I suspect the diffuser had too much front down-force also. They lifted the front wing a lot at Imola94. It like the front grabbed, then the back diffuser went down, letting go of the front. Creating this over steer, unsteer pattern.
Nice to see some footage of the Portuguese National Television (RTP), that back then had two channels (Canal 1 and TV2). Pity they no longer show the F1 races. He could give 1 lap ti his teammate. 😲 That was Ayrton Senna. Even though he couldn't finish the race. Well, maybe he could have been a little bit slower with this car, then he would still be alive.
Hill, with the same car, was "lapped" by Schumacher while Senna was closing the gap. Not to mention the Benneton hidden traction control. Briatore contributed quite substantially for Senna's death.
Schumacher was better this day, but we can't be sure it would be the same in the rest of the season. Benetton barely changed between 93' and 94' as it wasn't depending on Driving AIDS as much as Williams. Adding to that, Senna was new in his car, he even had problems to fit in the cockpit. Instead, Schumacher was absolutely integrated with his team and car, which produced a very good downforce. Things could change a lot from race 6 or 7 in favour of Senna, BUT... Fuel rig and other bullshit like illegal TC or LC was always part of F1 in all teams don't give a shit for this.
@@nickypoundtown9568 I'm pretty sure Benetton only introduced traction control in 1993, at the Monaco Grand Prix that year. That was their first TC system. The earlier cars, B191 and B192, didn't have really any electronic driver aids. They also only introduced a semi-automatic transmission in 1993, along with an active suspension system.
@@nickypoundtown9568 Oh okay. Yeah, because I thought it was just Williams, with their FW14, that had all the electronic driver aids; like active suspension, traction control, semi-automatic transmission, and also ABS (anti-lock brakes). I believe McLaren eventually followed suit later in 1992.
@@michaeldavis2531 I know a lot of teams were chasing electronic aids all the way back to when most mechanical aids like skirts were banned in 84, I think postlethwaite was doing something with the Tyrrell in 1987 hence their success amongst the other non turbo cars

The Benetton was an inferior car in 94. "Option 13" which was the hidden traction and launch control software helped them stay in front of a slightly nervous-handling FW16 at the beginning of the year. This is why Alain Prost was a superior driver to Senna - Prost would have settled for second to grab championship points and would have been patient in the early part of the year until Williams sorted out their handling issues.
Yes it's a pity Senna insisted on moving to Williams. If he had stayed at McLaren or moved to Ferrari or some other top team it would have been a great season between Prost Schumacher and Senna.

@@filipposstavro1233Rubbish, Bianchi died purely due to Charlie Whiting not sticking to his own rules. Sutils crash 100% warranted a SC, but Whiting felt pressure to finish the race in fading light. Don't try and rewrite history. The old days were much better. There were very few secondary accidents due to cars broken down/spinning. The current system of SC for everything needlessly robs us of racing and strategy. F1 could be so much better, if they used SC for emergencies only. senna is not like senna in 94, i dunno, just look at his face, its like the joy is not there anymore. Senna is faster in every way, but he's impatient and emotional that cost him a lot.
Cause I feel like he kinda felt something was gonna happen and the race weekend at Imola was like a story nightmare for him. He sobbed and panicked the whole time. Desperately calling his girlfriend a lot. Talking to the FIA about safety and so on after what happened more then ever. He kinda I think felt his fate was this for awhile and as it came closer and closer this was the result. He even told sid when he asked him to quit saying he is the fastest driver we have ever seen if not ever. He has nothing else to really prove. Senna basically said that he simply couldn’t. There are things which we cannot control. I have to continue. I think he would’ve wanted to quit but he worked so hard his entire life he simply couldn’t and he still loved racing he just didn’t love what was happening. The Williams was a mess at the beginning of the year. A lot of cars were simply cause of the stability issues. I think senna always had high confidence in himself the difference is he didn’t have high confidence in the car anymore. He felt very much out of control and no one really knows or wants to know the helpless feeling he felt when the wheel broke and he went towards the wall with nothing he could do. Those 2 seconds probably felt life forever to him till it was suddenly just over. A lot weighed on senna that year. The break downs he had at imola that weekend was almost like he was desperate and wanted help. Almost like he kinda felt it or knew it. Not only did he feel it but sid said he felt it. Everyone at the time kinda felt it but no one really knew when or what it would be. He said he saw senna fly by his safety car like a bat out of hell not slowing down at all pushing the car super hard. He said right when the red flag came out he just instantly knew it was senna. No one really wanted to race that weekend after what happened before that but everyone felt like they had to. Senna had probably had the worst of it tho cause not only was he just getting really torn apart he also got killed in it. Really had a painful end emotionally. Im not religious or anything but it’s really strange the awareness he seemed to have that his fate was kinda known. He didn’t know exactly when cause if he did he wouldn’t of raced but he felt I think it was soon and it was in a formula 1 car. This may all sound like bs but I think it all kinda plays into how he felt that year. He didn’t seem like senna. He lacked the passion and want but he felt like he was forced to continue no matter what happened just cause he already went this far in his life and made this decision to a team and so on that he had to go into the unknown no matter what happened. It’s just very sad cause I think everyone else would’ve wished the race was canceled and would’ve wished that it didn’t take senna to prove how dangerous that wall was and it didn’t take senna to prove how f1 needs to improve safety and it didn’t take senna for the fia and every team to step back and improve the changes they made to make the cars better for the drivers so this wouldn’t of happened. We all wish he would’ve instead went to fish with Sid but it had to take something for all this change to be made cause that’s how unfortunately dumb the people in charge are. It shouldn’t take crashes to realize the obvious. It shouldn’t of taken a death and many crashes at spa to realize something needs to be done up there. Just like it’s gonna take someone to hit the pit wall at Baku to realize how unsafe it is. It’s just insane how we continue the same patterns.

Being the best in qualifying does not make you the best. Senns had a gift for sorting out a car faster than anyone. He could get to his max speed in a very short period. No he wasn't. 1993 was arguably one of his best seasons. Hill had the marvellous FW15C and was beaten easily. Schumacher had the custom Cosworth engine more powerful than the Mclaren's. In 1994 early season the FW16 still had a lot of problems plus Benetton had traction control (cleverly implemented working around the regulation ban).
Schumacher was way too fast in this race. Senna was holding him back for the first 20 laps as the Williams seemed to be a handful on heavy fuel loads. Most of this gap was built right after the pits, when he was much faster, then Senna was cutting it back when he spun.
