It's interesting how much your own ear affects these headphones. It seems like any headphone with big soundstage and a lot of treble energy has the widest sway in opinions. The gaming performance on my 800s absolutely blew everythign I'd ever used out of the water. The imaging and presentation of sound to my ears is absolutely lifelike. When listening to music, I feel like I'm in an amphitheater. It's such a cool headphone, money well spent

I agree with the gaming part I have them already and figured everyone says amazing for games and for open world games it’s awesome like fallout things like that make the game a different animal but for competition gaming like COD or Fortnite or apex it’s to much and a bit distracting for music these are still my most used don’t game much with them tbh would recommend saving your money and looking else we’re here the PX38 gaming headphone is amazing and like 10 times cheaper

is very clear that Sennheiser engineers did produce this headphone for serious music, orchestral, instrumental, jazz, music with complex layering, so if a person likes the opposite to that, overly simple music with unnatural bass and 4 or 5 sounds on the track those people will hate this headphone, been trying most headphones over 3000 dollars I can say as a professional musician and music producer this still very easily one of the very best headphones on the market but again not for genres like hip hop or electronic, music play by musicians not VST or plugins.
@LeggoMaEggo17
@LeggoMaEggo17 Год назад
I’ve listened to hip hop and pop on mine and I can honestly say they sound better than they do on my Arya. Perhaps not with the same depth or bass, but instrument separation, imaging, resolution and staging was better overall. I’d dare to say that unless you crave bass, these will make any genre sound great

I think the key to the HD 800s and also the HD 600 and 6XX... is to pair them with a tube amp. I have the 800s and 600 and they sound great on a LYR 3 coming from a Bifrost 2 DAC with a Lokius EQ in between for adding some Bass if that's what you desire. I don't play competitive gaming... but the 800s are great for casual gaming. Very comfortable and the soundstage just brings the games environments to life. Certain Headphones need specific Dac/Amp pairings to find that great synergy to get the most out of them.
@MrAyrit
@MrAyrit 2 года назад
How are you liking the Lokius? I had a Loki for a short while, but didn’t use it much so I sent it down the road. I feel like using eq kind of drives me crazy, because there are endless tweaks that can be done. I need finite possibilities to stay sane.
@JTB--
@JTB-- 2 года назад
@@MrAyrit Yeah I get that. I was never an EQ guy as far as EQ software goes trying to hit Harman targets and graphs like some people do. I just let my ears tell me what I like basically when tweaking a song like a producer mixing. But the danger with EQ is sometimes you will find yourself fiddling way too much with EQ rather than just listening to the music. But with all that said the Lokius is probably the most important piece of audio gear I've picked up because no headphone is perfect or can do everything well. The Lokius comes in handy adding some Bass to a Bass light HD 800s or HD 600, or smoothing out the Treble on say some of the Hifiman HP's which can get a little hot up top at times. Instead of being on this non stop hunt for the perfect headphone, trying to find that Unicorn All Arounder HP which really doesn't exist... get a Lokius and a few HP's you really like and you should be set. Otherwise you will continuing down this endless rabbit hole looking for your perfect headphone which really doesn't exist. Trust me... I've been through it and it can drive you nuts... and also put a hurting on your wallet. That's why I'd recommend a Lokius, as it can help make the headphones and gear you already own much more capable of sounding like that All Arounder HP and make it capable of doing things you never thought it could. But be warned... not All headphones do well with EQ like an HD 800s does. The Lokius is also helpful when you run into bad or older recordings where you can tweak bad recordings into sounding decent.

I though people just hyping it and i didn't believe they are amazing.. till i try it once when i visited a friend who owns them.. It took me 10min to order them after hearing 2 tracks.. lol. If you into Bass.. and you think buying one of these and just "plug and play" without any additional equipment and you listen the music and enjoying that bass "hits" ... sennheiser is not company for you, go for another one.. but everything else.. perfection... It can work just fine but don't expect perfection in that area. Thank you for honest review.

These with my Bottlehead Crackatwoa is straight up amazing. Really fills in the mids and low end. I also love these for gaming. Not only are they super comfortable, but even w/ my desktop amp/DAC, they have great imaging and bass performance... And this is coming from someone who loves bass lol I've heard poor impressions from folks using entry level amps, tho. Not that the 800S are the most amp picky cans out there, but they certainly benefit more than a lot of cans I've heard. I'm actually going to sell my LCD-5 because I just don't think it's worth the premium over what the 800S already offers me. Is the LCD-5 better? Yeah, overall it's superior. Tho, still find the 800S more comfy. But, I've learned that I actually don't need/want that level of technical performance in order to enjoy music and gaming. I've found the 800S and Veritè Closed to be a great pairing. Aeolus is def amazing for acoustic.

@@MrAyrit mostly Schiit Yggdrasil LIM and Schiit Bifrost 2 (different setups). The 800S seems to scale up very nicely with the source components. They seem to be very much a "here's a photocopy of what was sent to me through the wire." So, with the Yggy and Crackatwoa, I was super impressed with what I was hearing. But it also works well with my BF2 and Neurochrome HP-1 PC/gaming setup. Not the biggest rumbling bass in the world, but still sufficient for explosions and gunshots. Pretty immersive headphones for sure. I go to the Verite Closed for a different presentation and for when I want to isolate myself from the outside world lol

Using the HD 800s on a Tube amp can really add some nice low end Bass. I use it on the Schiit Lyr 3 tube amp and it really adds some nice Bass and makes the 800s a whole other beast. And I agree with you on the cable. It's an awful setup and way too hard to change the cable in fear of damaging something. Hard to believe Sennheiser hasn't revised this cable connection on the 800s yet

This is a headphone I'd definitely like to hear someday. I hope you get a chance to listen to the HD8XX. I wonder what you think about it.... Btw, I received the Beyerdynamic DT770 for Christmas. I'm pretty blown away by it. It may be my favorite headphone, beating out my Audioquest headphones and Focal Elex, not to mention He4xx and of course HD650, which I give no love to these days. I liked it so much I bought the DT990, but I think the 770 is better. So much impact, clarity, and intimacy. I can't agree that the sound is V shaped or treble hot like so many describe it. It's incredibly natural, and makes me wonder if people really understand how to read frequency response graphs. Yes, you hear tons of sibilance in many recordings with these headphones, but I hear the same sibilance with treble light headphones, just less clearly. If it's in the recording, you hear it with the DT770. Your old review of the 770 is one that influenced my desire to get these. I wonder if you still have them? Probably not, lulz....

Yeah, they definitely stand out as something special in that price range. I do not have a set any longer. I do have the 1770 pro and 177x right now. They’re an pretty great. The 1770 is like the 770 but super resolving. The 177x is a bit mellower.

@@MrAyrit I feel like every headphone brings something different to the table, and organizing them in a hierarchy is completely futile. I get hot for one set, then doubt myself literally the next day. I have no idea which headphone I like the best and feel like I need to step away from the hobby for a bit. Thanks for letting me know what you think of the 1770 vs. 177X. I'm pretty sure I'd prefer the 1770.

@@MrAyrit Saying the 770 or 990 is better than the Elex is fucking retarded. You'd think I was drunk when I wrote that. At the time, I was addicted to their dry, crisp, airy sound that is most certainly V shaped. I've just never heard a V shaped headphone that's as good as the Beyerdynamics. I'm glad I wrote that on your channel and not as a stand alone post on some forum where I'd be really embarrassed.

@@gramblor1 hey, we all go through that I think. You hear something different and it stands out. That’s why I typically wait a couple of weeks (or months) before I do a review. Gotta go through those ups and downs. Also, please don’t take this the wrong way, but I’d prefer if you wouldn’t use terms like “retarded” in comments on the channel. Some may find that term offensive and I want to be as inclusive as possible. Thanks.
