Sennheiser HD820 New Measurements and EQ Profile 

This seems to be another failure just like the HD700. Senneheiser needs to stop relying solely on what they had in the past, and start from scratch to build a flagship that actually sounds good.

It's absurd how much these go for on the market... I'd take the Elegia or Aeons over these any day of the week and those are just a fraction of the cost...

why would you get these, if they sound that bad, especially at that high a price point, eq or no that's unacceptable for a hifi headphone wtf sennheiser

820 sounds nasally to me like it's out of phase.

Someone should create an eq program where you can load in frequency responses and pick a target curve, the programme would create multiple parametric nodes linked with the correct settings, maybe have a % slider that shifts towards the target gradually 🤖 I've used similar things in music production, someone out there has the skillz to make it..! ✊

Graph looks like Sennheiser simply forgot to tune it! Really doubt that this tuning is done on purpose.

Ever considered the denon 9200?

It seems you like this headphone if you are willing to try to make it better. I do think the same, it's not always as easy to just get one with better frequency response. As you said, this headphone has a lot going for it: closed back, light, comfortable, sound stage etc. A better headphone in every one of those areas probably doesn't exist.

First of all: I‘m really sorry for my bad English. Your first EQ curve set in Roon changed the sound of these cans incredibly even with bad recordings. The second one is not good. As for me. But Sennheiser HD 820 are probably cursed with their truthfulness. Have read many reviews of these and even customers on amazon before I bought Senns. If you connect them to something special such as Chord Hugo 2, Rupert Neve RNHP, Pro-Ject Stream Box Ultra you can recognize why some people who say HD 820 are better than top Sunus Faber loudspeakers. This might be the end of looking for something which can show full power of music without all those teared phase bad and so slow bass and other problems with expensive loudspeakerss; sold mine already with two large subwoofers. Incredible speed, PRAT, micro and macro dynamics, space, and above all mids with vocals are inducing waves of shivering and tears in my eyes and inner mind so often. One mode addition: HD 820 are extremely transparent and revealing - if the sound of your favorite recordings is not perfect for your ears (D. Bowie - Outside and so many more) then these headphones will show to you all the sound and mastering flaws like a predator or biblical sword with two edges...

I tried your EQ settings but unfortunately they produce a heavy amount of distortion. Any idea why?

I recently got the HD820, and I actually like it quite a bit. Do you think you'd rather have something like a hifiman Arya over these? Hoping that can help my decision on whether I should keep them or not.

What amplifier would you recommend pairing these headphone with please? I mainly listen to music whilst sited at my workstation - running an high quality audio USB2 cable into a tiny Project Pre-box S2 Digital amp to start with (around AUD $500). I have seen reviews that the matching Senneiser amp which retails fro around $2,500 isn't all that impressive for a lot of $$$ - what would you recommend to best pair these headphones with? Any comments about the beyerdynamic t5p 2nd generation? I have a pair but nothing to really compare them to other than the sony 1000xm3 which is a unfair comparison.

Personally if you have to eq a lot a headphone is problematic

Is there anything else that can compete with the Stellia and the Vérité C for high end closed back headphones? From what i hear, both have class leading detail retrieval and it's all about tuning preference (slightly V shaped vs Neutral-warm).
