*Bandit:* “She can’t use that magic at melee range!” …But it’s still a long range attack. If you get closer at melee range, it just makes it easier to aim and hit you. What was this guy’s logic here?

Theory: He was thinking that at close range, there's more of a chance for her to hit more than just the bandits. So, if a bandit could hold someone hostage, then there's less of a chance she'll strike with lightning. Then again, these guys are dumb, so that's just a theory.

Caster version of the 21 foot rule, probably. If you're close enough, they can't prep and cast the spell before you can hit them. ... that or this place runs on Pathfinder-style rules where if you try to cast in melee range, the enemy gets a free shot at you.

Same reason why in real life, when you hold a gun to someone, you stay out of their reach. The whole advantage is that they're no threat to you and you're very much a threat to them. If someone is right in front of you while you're holding a gun to them, they can grab the gun, grab your arm, punch you, tackle you, etc, etc. It eliminates all the advantages of being ranged in the first place. Seems like a pretty common sense thing to me

The most enjoyable part of this show is how funny it actually is. Expected it to be just your run of the mill power fantasy self insert isekai bs. But it is actually seems to be really enjoyable and fun.
