I’m going to read all of these books (and more!) in your honor Jenny. Blessing and peace to you and your family. Thank you for years of genius, inspiration and such a lovely way conveying your love of reading. I will miss you.

Yesterday I finished Jezebel's Daughter by Wilkie Collins. While I would not rank it as highly as The Woman in White, it held my attention throughout and had a very macabre ending. Wilkie is really a great storyteller. This is the fourth book of his that I have read thus far. I enjoyed your video and love this kind of discussion.

I've read Woman In White, but hadn't heard of this sub-genre--illuminating! 🙃

Love learning about how the gothic genre differs from the sensation genre from you. Thank you so much for this. I can't wait to get into The Woman in White! Patiently awaiting the mail, I got my copy in the old Penguin classics edition 💛

I have felt the SAME way about East Lynne! I tried, I really did. I even think I forced myself halfway and I just didn't care.

Also, I will not shut up about The Law and the Lady by Wilkie Collins. It's ridiculously gripping. I'm excited this Victober to be reading Aurora Floyd by Mary Elizabeth Braddon because it has a similar premise to East Lynne but it's Mary Elizabeth Braddon so I think I will hopefully love it.

I’ve wondered what it is about East Lynne that just hasn’t gotten me! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who struggled. I’ve heard such good things about Aurora Floyd! I hope you enjoy it!

I'm currently reading Le Fanu's In A Glass Darkly. The Room in the Dragon Volant from that book is very much sensational novel stuff (a sensation novella, perhaps). Once I'm finished with that, I might move on to Lady Audley's Secret at last.

I really need to try Le Fanu! His work sounds right up my alley!

Such a great video! I love sensation novels and am hoping to get more into them. I just read Lady Audley’s Secret this summer and it solidified my love of the genre.

I've really enjoyed the 3 Wilkie Collins that I've read so far: The Woman in White, The Moonstone, and No Name (my least favorite of the three). What I find especially interesting is that as well as a suspenseful plot the characters are usually very strong (I mean, is there a more fascinating villain than Count Fosco?). I've been meaning to read Lady Audley's Secret for years, I need to get to it soon. I'm also very interested in East Lynne, which does not get that much talked about.

I’m thinking No Name will be my least favorite as well-not because it isn’t good. It just isn’t as outstanding as the Moonstone or the Woman in White. You’re so right on Count Fosco! He is amazing!

You have made me so excited to keep on reading The a Woman in White! When I first started reading it, it was at night and got scared lol. Then you go and say that you read it by candle light when a storm was happening 🤭 so now I want to do more night reading of The Woman in White, hoping it will not scarred me for life but rather make the experience much more fun and unique 🤍
@jenniferbrooks

I have read the woman in white, no name, the moonstone, & poor miss finch by Wilkie Collins I hope to read all of his, eventually. I really enjoyed all, just wasn't very taken with the moonstone, though I have heard it called his maserpiece. I just don't think it was the 1 for me.

I've read The Woman In White and Lady Audley's Secret. Like you I have yet to tackle East Lynne. Wilkie Collins is one of my favorite writers of any time. I've also read The Moonstone and just finished No Name. I think I will tackle East Lynne fairly soon. I do like the "Sensation Novel". I'd like to see a list of them, other than Wikipedia's.

I'm about to finish No Name! I've really enjoyed it. I'd like a good list too--seems like some books really cross genres into sensation novels.
