Good video and timely. I just got my Sensenich variable pitch prop and installed it today. I haven’t had a chance to test it with different pitches yet. What is the torque you are using on your prop bolts? Mine are torqued at 30 foot pounds.
Great video! Heard you say grade 8 bolt? NO!! Do not use those on an airplane! Especially on a prop. Only propeller bolts with rolled threads are to be used. Grade 8 is too hard and brittle and will fracture. Stick with approved hardware even on an experimental.
Scott, Sensenich sends you grade 8 bolts with this prop and is what they recommend. I even called and asked to double check when I didn't have the right ones!
No problem! Sensenich sent me pin numbers 0 through 5 and I'm using th number 4 setting. I'm not sure exactly what pitch that correlates to but that is the most course pitch. I'm getting about 2200 WOT on the ground. When I go to sea level that goes up to around 2300.
That depends on many factors, such as horsepower, weight, density altitude, runway surface, and obstacles. I've flown it off a 2500' grass strip at sea level with 80' trees 700' from the end and handled it easily. Your stopping distance will be the biggest limiting factor. Most folks won't go less than a 1500' runway, and that's with a clear approach/departure path.
