I recently installed this thermostat, and I mostly like it as well as its easy to use app. However, the cycle rate adjustment doesn't do anything. Even on a "slow" cycle rate it still doesn't let the temp change a whole degree before the HVAC system kicks on to heat/cool again. For instance, I set the heat to 68: it heats to 68, then kicks back on before it even says 67 degrees. So, even on the slow cycle setting it must still have a less than 1 degree swing allowed, which is unacceptable to me. I'd rather have it drop 1.5 to 2 degrees before having the furnace turn on and running for a longer period, rather than barely letting the temp change and have more frequent, yet shorter bursts of run time (which is less efficient and harder on the equipment). I've been doing research and see the Ecobees have manual adjustments up to +/- 3 degrees of swing temperature to really dial in your cycle rates. However, I hate touch screens. I really like the ease of just having buttons on the unit like this Sensi for things like turning the fan on and off. However, I have to return this Sensi because the cycle rate is just not good. Reading in forums it looks like I'm not the only one who feels this way. Emerson, if you are reading this, do an upgrade that allows for this. "Slow, Medium, High" settings without any explanation what the difference will be is useless, especially when in practice the "Slow" cycle rate isn't slow at all. There was no change between Medium and Slow. It's annying hearing the furnace turn on every 10 minutes. I miss my old "dumb" thermostat that would drop a couple degrees first.

You have VERY CLEARLY explained the problems with this thermostat. This kind of interface would benefit from the old analog controler.

I bought this because it is easy to set manually. I don’t wish to dl the app. Question I have is can it be installed and will it function without the app?

Thank you for the great review!!! I have a question: can you set the thermostat to "auto" cooling and heating from the thermostat itself or does it have to be done in the app? I ask because if you lose wifi but not power, you would not be able to turn "auto" on or off from the thermostat if that is the case. Thank you!!!

Yes you can, you need a ladder to get on your roof to do it though. Be careful.

Do you have a video that covers the auto setting? Does it have the ability to set for heat and cool automatic so it heats or cools when needed?

Why would you have the fan set to on and not auto? If you have the fan on it runs all the time.

Does this thermostat have a time/programmable fan only circulation?
@greetingsearthlingspluto6666
@greetingsearthlingspluto6666 22 дня назад
Yes it does, you have to stand next to thermostat and hit the switch for the fan when you want it on or off. I'd have a beverage and chips while you do it though.

hey! Although it doesn't require C, the Wifi features are available only if you actually use that C. Am I right? Cause I have this thermostat, not installed yet but I was playing around with it with batteries only, and I couldn't get any Wifi connection. There is no Connect option as apparently it needs to be connected to C first
@Scott-sm9nm

Did you ever get an answer because I've never heard that. I do understand that the built-in wifi would use extra power but it would seem very strange that the wifi would not work and they would design it that way.
@soufianemess7681

@@Scott-sm9nm Hi, yes I had answer by myself... I had a 24v transformer as a backup and I tired to test it with the thermostat. I had a strange behavior where the thermostat screen stays dark when you touch the buttons. The only button that would turn the screen on is the Menu button. As for the Wifi, unfortunately it didn't work with transformer. I had a pack of brand new batteries and I tested the thermostat with it. Wifi went back on and it worked normally. I could also use the app to lower or higher the temp. Weird behavior with R and C from transformer. Guess once I install it, I would have to use batteries anyway (for Wifi features)

@@soufianemess7681 Thanks so much for the follow up. I want to install this at my kids place and he doesn't have a C-wire but I wanted to make sure wifi would work. He also really needs that auto-air-circulation to come on, say, 15 minutes (25%) every hour to keep temps more uniform around their place.
@soufianemess7681
@soufianemess7681 Год назад
@@Scott-sm9nm I also tried to gather more info about the utility of having a C wire since testing it without C the wifi didn't work! I wonder if C is used for the screen and batteries to access Wifi features? If you would use the thermostat without C maybe batteries would drain faster? This I can't answer it. If you have the possibility to run a C wire from thermostat to the source, do it .. otherwise I think you can just use it with batteries and R and W then. Good luck of course

@@soufianemess7681 Thanks. We were able to install it tonight. The phone app walks you thru the setup and ask which wires your old one used with clickable boxes. It then does auto-magic to utilize what it can. It does come with regular Energizer AAs but my kid already was using Energizer Lithium AAs in his old thermostat so we just transferred them to the new one. They should last a very long time. It is nice that there is a battery level display on the new thermostat. I think because the display is 'black and white' vs color tech that is uses very little energy. I think you are write that the wi-fi would use energy but perhaps the modern electronics are pretty efficient. He has a Sense monitor as well so hopefully we see the auto-fan-circulate option work (and use way less wattage than A/C). As an alternative we were going to use a Honeywell but then you needed an adapter that was wired to your HVAC circuit board. Hopefully this Sensi works out.

Long hold the schedule button. When you do, you're first prompted to set the time, THEN the schedule.
