@@qBodi Nico is really really good. Last season he was Bilbao's main man at 22 years of age and he's the reason they won the Spanish cup. He plays in Bilbao which isn't an attacking team. We all saw what he can do in a more attacking team and he'll definitely be better fit in Spain than England.
Exactly, so much quality depth as well and basically new signings with players like Carvalho, Bajcetic, Morton, and Van den Berg coming back but for some reason people want Liverpool to spend big just for the sake of spending big
@@ashvintyagi4530 They really need to prepare better for Virgil's and Salah's replacements, Salah's backup and Endo's backup. Those are glaring issues that the team has. Otherwise they are a wonderful group with an immense potential. They were good enough to be first in the league last season, so with a little bit of improvement and good coaching they could win a trophy this season.
@@ashvintyagi4530We very obviously need a defensive midfielder, I think that's been clear for the last two seasons. We also need a proper center forward, wasted chances cost us heavily last season. Klopp has the best at getting the best out of limited resources.
Williams playing on the inside? Not sure about that, also its not a very efficient player his stats are very average. With Luis Diaz and Nunez we already have enough players that needs too many chances.
Slot's style really just feels like the perfect evolution of Klopp's foundations. Liverpool have always been aggressive on the press and they loved bombing forward, initially with the fullbacks overlapping and later with them joining the midfield. What they frequently lacked though was control, the ability to kill a game and survive even when they're in a slump. Slot seems to keep the style mostly the same but fix that control issue, and i honestly cant wait to see them in proper league games.
Completely agree. We don't kill teams like Everton, Fulham the way City or recently Arsenal do. We also rarely managed to take advantage of teams like Man United at their lowest but everything you said about Slot is completely true.
so basically what you're saying is that Slot is a better version of klopp? I completely disagree. Slot might press more to try control the game but Slot takes risks in the final third where as Klopp would work it around 2/3/4 times to find a weakness or mistake to penetrate. I feel as if this Slot era wont produce nearly as many goals but we may be more defensively solid and sound. Coming from a lifetime Liverpool fan btw
@@smh4096 Lol what? Im not saying that at all. Klopp's playstyle saw Liverpool become the best in the world, and if it wasn't for ManCity and the 115 Liverpool would've enjoyed one of the most dominant periods in English history. But other clubs did figure them out over time, and as football tactics changed, particularly with ManCity and Arsenal, Klopp's playstyle just kinda fell behind. Slot looks like he'll be the one to fix that problem, that is all im saying.
Yeah but you still want him to have competition for the spot . Some Wonderkids never live up to the potential . Alex Oxlade Chamberlain was bought to be a future Starter CM and he was a Substitution Filler at best
@@sethclenshaw9830 I’m just Saying potential isn’t enough to assume guy will be great or that a position doesn’t need to be filled . We got 2 high potential CBs that can probably start for a low table Premier League Club in Sepp and Quansah but he smart move is to get another to make sure we are good . We don’t have enough wiggle room to be taking the risk for when Virgil Leaves . Virgil’s replacement is the most Important spot to fill compared to Mo Salah in my opinion because when Liverpool didn’t have the Defensive Foundation of Virgil/Fab/Allison we were a top 4 club at best . I don’t want us to become Chelsea , Man U or Aston Villa for the next 10 years
eh i guess im not rlly worried coz i think in slots first interview he was with the sporting director and he stopped slots from dropping sum news although i could be very wrong so take it easy in the replies but even if im wrong im pretty sure well get someone i think in the first 3-4 matchdays coz you know liverpool are very discreet and have little to no insiders that even generate a good rumour all i can say is that sometimes things are done quietly
12:00 fully agreed that Endo should stay. He was absolutely fabulous last year once he hit a groove and Bajcetic is up and coming. Trouble is that it looks like the board are entertaining offers for Endo at the moment, which is a bit concerning considering that there really aren't any superstar 6s on the market right now. Really hope we hold onto Endo nonetheless.
Endo must stay for this season but not beyond. He should be there to let Bajcetic/Morton settle in and become a competing starters. Those two are the future. Its only their injury record that concerns me given DM is such a vital position
@@sleeepingpills we dont need a superstar 6. The lack of good quality ones in market are few and far between - hence the mediocre Palinha clone he offerred up. Im fine with Endo/Bac/Morton rotation
@@nigl2807endo is not good enough, he’s 31 and had a little purple patch last season, he was dreadful in his first pre season game, the is no way to know what bajetic we will get after a year off of injury, we need a 6
The only thing I'd add is that I would love to see Sepp Van Den Berg stay and act as cover in defence. Himself and Quansah acting as backup to and learning from Van Dijk and Konate would be great for the future.
This is a very good point. Not sure how I forgot it was an ACL, I usually google 'Player X injury' on every single one of the players I consider for these! He'll still be magic in a year tbf
This is something that I always thought of since Klopp arrived. Klopp is amazing at bringing the best out of a young player when its necessary. However, he doesn’t like to rotate players hence why for the first few years of his reign, he just sticks with the 11-15 players he trusts. We had so high potential players who could easily have gone on to become better than they are today if Klopp just trusts them more. Hopefully, with how slot loves to rotate his players, the academy has way more involvement in the first team similar or even more than Klopp’s last season
I agree so much with the Bajcetic(hopefully he can shine and be injury free) and keeping endo, since there isn't that Rodri 6 out there currently. Not sure about the Harvey on the wing, every time that happened last season and season before it didn't work and it was so frustrating because he couldn't run in behind or win a sprint race, he's best as a midfielder not a winger/runner like Salah just leave him in the midfield. Great video though.
We should be looking at a long term replacement for Robbo. He's 30 and getting more injuries, his style is also very intense. Gomez is not a left footer so does not offer the same attacking/overlap threat. Tsimikas has been here for 4 years and has never once threatened to take the starting spot.
Robertson is injury prone and Tsimikas is not up to par. We should get a starting left back and leave Robertson on a rotation basis like the time when Robertson was rotating with Moreno
Respectfully I suspect Liverpool would want them playing for a PL or equivalent level team to get them experience at a higher level than the Championship. We already know both of them are more than good enough at that level.
I would like to see a ball controller like rodri in the team. Given the evolution under slot Liverpool will be more suited with a controller at the base of the midfield. Would really like to see zubinendi in that position. We need a left footed cb/ rb
We've got lots of depth everywhere except DM to be honest. Youngsters like Quansah, Sepp and Bradley can step up as well. I don't understand everyone crying over our lack of transfer activity. At most, we will get two players unless we sell some players to buy new ones. We have a healthy squad, ready for the season and if Slot likes it, that's completely fine.
Nobody is crying. Based on historical evidence we will clearly need depth at CB, DM, RW and possibly up front. Certain people seem to forget how many injuries we had the last few years and this year will be no different with both the Euros and Copa America shortening the recovery time of everybody. I'm not saying we need a bunch of starters but we clearly need to fortify to ward against what will inevitably come.
@@distantant Every summer we claim to have enough depth for the new season, and then halfway into the season we start complaining about injuries and how it "isn't fair" that City don't have the same problem. How many more years do you want to complain about this for? You wanna wait another 30 years to win a Premier League? We have to solve this problem sooner rather than later. We deffo need DM (I love Endo, but our rivals have Rodri and Rice), CB (Konate is injury-prone, Matip just left) and LB (Tsimikas is incompetent, Robertson is slowing down heavily) is required imo. Potentially even an RW because Mo is probably leaving next/this summer.
@@H0ldThat LB is perfectly fine. Tsmikas is NOT incompetent and people are overhating Robertson who is still a brilliant player. CB, we've already got Van Dijk and Konate with Quansah and Sepp and potentially Gomez as backups. RW, let's be real, Salah rarely actually gets injured and Elliot can play there anyways. I'm being realistic. You're all setting yourself up for a negative reaction by expecting these signings. We will get a DM and one other signing (likely Gordon) at most if we don't sell players which looks very likely.
@distantant Tsimikas is very very very incompetent.. and Robbo while decent is way past his peak and can't play every game.. do you even watch full matches?
Harvey should play on the wing, he can create a lot of chances and space for others on the wings. An unsensible but interesting option could be Kvaratshkelia, especially if Napoli's form doesn't improve.
This is the best sensible transfers they have done so far for this season, similar to the good old Tifos days minus the shout of Sangare being the best option for every position on the pitch. So much better than just giving out names everyone already knows who are rumoured or the club has basically bought already.
keep in mind sepp van de berg at CB who was unreal for mainz last season who’s just come back from loan, also carvalho has been unreal pre season and played well for hull last season, loads of potential coming through liverpools ranks, also gomez played in that LCB/LB role last season and surprised everyone by playing really well, he’s probably the best on the ball in terms of defenders at liverpool
I just hope Nunez turns into Fernando Torres this season the 2008-09 version of him but its going to be weird not seeing liverpool press opponents at kick off and pulling a hamstring mid game.
23-24 season Liverpool were 3rd in possession stats Liverpool were 3rd in touches Liverpool were 2nd for passes in midfield Liverpool were 20th for # take ons defended Liverpool were 17th for % take ons defended Liverpools problem was not being "rushed" in possession Liverpool's problem was the ease with which opposition could beat the press and get generate good attacking positions
I would love to see Fenerbahçe's Ferdi Kadioglu come as an understudy to Robertson at LB. Loved him at the Euros, got up and down all day and was a great threat going forward. Better option than Tsimikas imo.
Quansah starts next to VVD for sure. We just need another CB cover as Quansah is nailed on as an England starter in the next few years. Endo is underrated, but he's not peak Fabinho. We need a 6 for sure.
First video of this new season’s batch that feels like it’s harking back towards what this series used to be: Sensible Transfers. Not based on rumours already out there or tournament performance. Long may it continue 🙌🏻
I must admit, I wasn't expecting the suggestions of Gilmour and Ricci, but I love the spotlight put on them. I also appreciate alerting me to Eric Martel, who I didn't know about. I look forward to watching him. 😊
Spot on! Refreshing to see someone who actually has knowledge of the club rather than repeating fanciful speculations. I believe we have cover everywhere.. had high hopes watching Doak in last summer's pre-season.. Hope he'll finally have a chance to kick on! Van den berg looked solid and Quansah is our CB of the future. So a super prospect behind them is the only option I would consider, though Nallo looks promising as well. Don't have 100% trust Bajcetic can become an elite 6 for us.. but I'm willing to wait and see.. Tsimikas looked very strong this pre-season. He must have kept working through the break and I would consider him and Robbo cover us easily at LB.. A lot rides on whether Slot can encourage Trent to put a team effort in. Bradley is a clear better option for us now. Will Trent be happy to play only cups and vs unambitious teams?
Great video JJ. Honestly not often enough do people advise just playing the kids and let them develop a bit, everyone is so obsessed with buying more and more
Zubimendi is the perfect player for the other half of the double pivot, yes he is 25 but we have signed players older than 24 when we need to improve the squad immediately
Pedro Neto would be a great pickup, proven in the league. He was great before he got injured past year on an avg at best team. I like the Hato option too, could use a more defensive left back who could be a CB in the future
Superb analysis as always JJ. For me the LCB / LB role isnt talked about with enough importance among the fans. We're 1 serious Robbo injury away from playing Tsimikas or Gomez (who i rate but more as a CB) all season. Add a VVD injury to that, and the left side of our defence is f*d. So very interested in the Hato suggestion. Agree with sticking with Endo/ Baijetic. Ultimately we need to give Slot a grace season to settle in and get the hang of things. That being said, it is a position where we will need a quality signing in the next 1-1.5 years. RCB, im inclined to trust Quansah and Konate to be honest. Gomez can cover too. RW is a tricky one coz Salah is so unbelievably reliable. Harvey is definitely not best used there, and Doak is a bit of a gamble whether he can rotate with Salah without a major drop-off in quality. Also, what happens if Mo gets injured again... LCB/ LB and RW are the first two priorities imo (after sorting TAA, VVD and probably Mo contracts of course)
i hope we get Hato, like i get it the market of the DM position that suits Slot's style is dry after the Zubi deal collapsed, but Hato is a straight upgrade and we ship either Tsimikas or Robbo because they are getting slower, atm i prefer Tsimikas but it is debatable.
Bajetic and Morton are the reason we haven't made a big longterm defensive midfielder signing. Both players have the potential to become top quality and Klopp did not want to block that path!
The first team is good with some okay backups and a few exciting yongsters. Slot needs time to see what is needed to improve the team so diving into the market could be the wrong move at the moment.
A top 4 club brings in a new manager and new director and they don't buy players in the summer. Brilliant psychological advantage since this is unheard of and it isn't just a tactic: Slot & company get it that they were gifted a side from heaven coming in. Maybe add in a world class 6 for the classic 4-3-3, that's about all they maybe need since no one crucial is leaving this year and the bench for LFC is to die for with marvelous kids too.
i noticed a few times against arsenal we’d win the ball back high and after years of klopp i just expected the players to rush forwards and try score straight away, instead we played it all the way back to the keeper and i thought well that was weird cus im so used to klopp. In some scenarios it’s a missed chance but in others it can be good cus ur waiting for an even better chance to come up
I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily waiting for a better chance. You’re not gonna get a better chance than when the other team is out of position. If you wait, they have time to get back into their defensive shape. What it is doing, is giving NG us time to organize and get back into our shape. So I think we will miss out on chances going forward but it will also not leave us as exposed to the counterattack.
@@USCNE96 i hear u, i think we’ll just be more smart about it, with klopp we would rarely retain the ball on those situations it was like try and get a shot off and if it doesn’t work then that’s that try again next time.
Hard to see much coming in, without people leaving. Squad is pretty stacked. Only one is defensive mid. Slot doesn't seem to fancy Endo. The one spot we could do better. But, only if the right player is available.
I think the Gilmour shout is verging on insane in terms of fit in the squad (I do like him as a player) but I appreciate it's not just the same names we're linked to in the media, aswell as the general feeling that we're actually mostly alright with valid youth options able to play squad roles. It's a nice change from the doom and gloom of the fanbase.
i would go for geertruida. i think TAA is the best replacement for endo and could work in a double 6 geertruida can also play as a cb or lb. and on top he can play as a classic rb or inverted rb and as a salah replacement, i would go for bakayoko 2 years ago liverpool where interested in jeremy doku and we know how good he was for city. bakayoko is a similar player and if you still have money left and want to improve this team. hincape would fit as a cb or lb
Schlotterbeck I think is the one player Liverpool should be doing anything to get. As you say, every other problem they have might be able to be fixed by young talent coming through
the only sensible player to buy for liverpool rn is just a goal keeper, adrian is leaving and kelleher had to step up to other team who can give him more minutes. the team is complete, maybe liverpool had to add some multifunctional player like milner for more backup. but it's not necessery though we have good youngster to backup
As a LFC fan, I partially disagree with you. Here are some points: 1. We cannot depend on Bajectic and Endo for no. 6 position. As we know that slot likes to play double pivot and Endo himself said that he would love LFC to sign the replacement. He had a good season but cannot depend on him. We need a player like Rodri/Rice 2. This is the same team who fumbled the three trophies last season, without any addition it wont make any sense to go for title challenge when we already know City, Arsenal, United, Chelsea all have signed really good players and window is not yet close. 3. I agree that chances has been given to youngster but in the FA and EFL cups mostly. Quansha played wonderful last season but one mistake that he done against United at Oldtraford from where our season derailed. So we need a LCB. We need to buy at least 3 players this summer to challenge for all trophies this season. LCB, CDM and an attacker
Great video. Really enjoyed your super analysis. But....If Diaz' inconsistency continues, if Slot cannot improve his output, then we need to cash in on him, he's vastly overrated. Nunez has a big season ahead of him too. Both could end up in Spain in 12 months. I think we've got problem looking with TAA, who's clearly hard for Bellingham and Madrid. He's away, yall just dont know it yet. No doubts Quansah will become the next VVD. Seep van den Berg has impressed and will surely get games this year under his compatriot, he's ab exciting talent. But we still definitely need a quality centre-half. I'd love to get Hato, perfect fit for this new era. Could Robertson play left-sided centre-back? If Bajcetic can get clear of his growing pains, well i think we all know what kind of player we have there potentially. Rolls-Royce. Harvey Elliott & Jones will take huge strides this season. The coach speaks their language. Cody Gakpo was not mentioned. Under Slot, we're guaranteed to see the best of this mercurial player who could be world beater under the right coach/style of play. The manager seems already to have been a very clever appointment, the players have immediately responded to his methods and with a 3-4 clever signings before the window closes, we all have a very exciting season ahead of us.
great analysis. for cb hato or scalvini would be my picks, both long term are worthy van dijk successors. for a 6 i think zubimendi or alan varela are the perfect choices, both have release clauses for ~€60m and have great defensive statistics and both very good on the ball
I’m not convinced Liverpool will buy this summer. I think the board / committee will feel that it is premature to start spending big when Slott has only been there a couple of months. More likely they’ll target the Jan window which often is when they make their biggest signings.
Really believe they need to cash in on salah, his value is gonna plummet next season as won't fit this style of play and will start to get dropped more unless he moves Central. Watching him last season you could see his becoming a moments player rather than a consistent force.
Surprised that Alessandro Buongiorno of Torino is not mentioned. One thing about replacing Van Dijk is to ensure Liverpool have the Aerial prowess at the back at all times, all the suggested CBs are good, but Buongiorno is Aerially adept, and is good with his feet, and does do the "Van Dijk to Salah" kind of passes more often than not.
