I just bought one of the Sentinel Legioss. It's amazing. One thing that's spun me out was how tiny the fighter would actually be in real life in comparison to a Macross valkyrie. If you simply look at the size of an adult human in comparison to each, you can see that the Legioss is adorably small and compact in comparison to a Macross VF. In my head they were always comparable in size.
A fun and informative review as always. I dipped a toe in the ride armor pool, but Sentinel is just too pricey for me to be a completionist (especially with current prices). I'll just continue enjoying these vicariously.
I absolutely love the Sentinel versions of the Legioss/Mospeada series! I own the Fuke Bartley version and it is gorgeous! Another great comparison video!! 👌🏻👏🏻
I just rewatched the MOSPEADA episode guest starring Commander Jonathan. I noticed that he sat in the cockpit horizontal to the ground in the Armo Soldier mode just like the other modes. This is crucial to his last scene. Sentinel is the only toy to get this detail right.
Great review. I really enjoy your work. My first and only sentinel experience was their Eva-01 from like 10 plus years ago... I had to return it as it was a loose floppy mess of flimsy brittle light plastic. I might have gotten the lemon of the bunch, but since then, I'm too wary of that brand. Sure, sense then, many praises and major improvements I see across their releases, but... I dunno. First impressions sadly at times last. And it's same with Toynami, I was burnt by their first lines like 20 years ago.
Love when the robots are loaded with missiles, so glad never had the chance to buy the toynami masterpiece. Wish the Invid/Inbit get some love, would be great to have a Invid/Inbit in scale to go with the toy.
I still have my Toynami Masterpiece Collection Alpha, and it has not aged well. I want the Sentinel Legios, Red, Green and Blue variants. If Sentinel made the Shadow one, I’d be super happy with that.
My Sentinel Legioss Zeta (red) arrived today. It's an incredible toy in terms of detail and engineering. But it's incredibly finicky. Holy crap, I literally spent an afternoon transforming him. He needed to be larger. There's so much packed into such a small form factor, and there are many areas for potential breakage. He would have benefited from being at least half as big again, which would have also looked more impressive with the 1/12 scale ride armors also by Sentinel. But he's amazing all the same. Just be really really careful with those tail fins. On mine, they popped off of the first time I tried to rotate them out. The safest way to do it was to open up the forearms as if you're going to rotate out the hands, and slide the fins out that way. Oh and the hips are a nightmare. Somehow one of the grey rotating hinges that connect the legs to the pelvic bar ended up rotated around the wrong way. It happened accidentally during transformation. There's a small peg on the back of each rotating hinge which is supposed to slot into a notch on the inside of the joint cavity where the leg connects to it. When you flatten the hips for transformation into diver or fighter mode, that notch and peg are supposed to connect. If you don't keep them locked together When manipulating the hips and pelvic bar into position, one or both of the rotating hinges will turn out of alignment and maybe all the way around, which is very hard to turn back. When the rotating hinge is around the wrong way, it obstructs the lateral movement of the hip joint could damage the plastic of the joint cavity. But yes, anyway, the Zeta and this green model are excellent. I'm glad I never took the plunge and bought the other brand. I almost did, though.
Agreed on all points. It all does get much more intuitive as you handle them more though. By the time I transformed and put away all three after my most recent video, it felt natural.
Oof. I actually have a Toynami Alpha and Beta which have never come out of their box for reasons I don't need to get into, but was looking forward to closing on the house I'm buying because FINALLY, after YEARS of waiting I'll finally be able to have a home office where I'll have some room to display my toys. And now you have me afraid to take them out of the box. Maybe I'll just join the Legioss/Tlead together in fighter mode, stick 'em on a stand, and try to pick up a Sentinel for Solder/Battloid mode play. I need something to put up against those MEP Invid Scouts I have coming... Assuming I can FIND a Riobot Legioss anywhere at a halfway reasonable price. Cost me about $1200 to track down all four Riobot Ride Armors in 2023, and if you look at the current prices on that you'll see that's some good shopping... It's a shame that Rook/Houquet is the only one still in stock at primary retailers (like Big Bad Toy Store) at her original price. I mean, not for me, but in general. Means she didn't sell well. Still looking forward to putting my B2Five ride armors up against my Matchbox Invid Shock Trooper (still going strong!), since those are close enough to the same scale. (I now live in Ireland and package tracking shows my MEP Invid have been at the same Dublin post office since July 7 - it's July 17. I'm pretty sure customs has selected the "Plastic Crab Toy" for random inspection. Usually things get to me within two days of paying my import VAT.)
Quick question. Does anyone know where I can get another stand or replacement stand parts for Sentinel Riobot Legioss? I'm missing the fighter support part for the stand and I'd like to see if there is somewhere or way I can get it replaced! Thank you
I can't help but a word of warning: there have been several people complaining that the fighter mode stand support breaks if you leave the toy on it for too long.
In no particular order: A) Very limited numbers produced, small niche, B) Complex engineering, C) very few companies producing the toys and almost no knock-offs due to licensors actively monitoring markets
