Suggestion for the Sentro & its suction cups: pick up a piece of 12-inch by 12-inch marble or granite slab, or ceramic floor tile, with a smooth, glossy surface. The suction cups will hold on that surface, and the weight of the tile helps keep it in place on the table. I paid less than USD 4.00 for a marble-look ceramic tile at one of the big box home improvement stores.

I have found glass works just as well. So if you have a glass table or even cheap glass end table/coffee table even. But I have found it does not like certain kinds of worsted weight (weight 4 yarn). Lately I've had better luck with only using a weight three. With a weight 4 it's been skipping and not knitting correctly. Really considering upgrading to a Addi tbh.

My Addi was delivered yesterday from Germany and it only took 3 days. It is made with the most durable plastic materials available. It came with a 3 - ply skein of yarn, a very nice knit picker, 2 stoppers, a bent plastic darning needle, 2 leg clamps, 1 instruction book, 4 white needles, 1 black needle and 2 pattern books. It arrived by FedX and it was fun watching it travel from Germany to the U.S. One the the main things that sold me was, if a needle breaks, you can change it. There are other parts that can be replaced if needed. If a needle breaks on the other knitting machines, (at least the ones I have researched), they cannot be replaced, so they cannot be used. I made a hat yesterday with the yarn that was included and it came out very nice. Just my 2 cents.

I would not buy anything but an Addi. The quality of the machines are by far better than the other plastic machine that you kept in the United States. I've had mine a long time and I've never had any issues whatsoever and I love working with all types of the arms there's no problems. It's a high-quality machine well worth the money

Does the Addie have a smaller needle size than the Sentro? Do you know what size knitting needle is required to pick up off each machine?
@judypetett888
@judypetett888 Год назад
I own both machines. I like the tensioner and crank handle on the Sentro, better than the Addi, but the counter on the Sentro tore up in no time, and I had to buy a digital one. I also bought C-clamps to hold it onto the table. The Sentro accepts fewer yarns than the Addi. The Addi does not come with a tensioner, and I have also ordered a more comfortable crank handle for my arthritic hands. You can make the same size hat on the Addi as the Sentro by using less tension. I have replaced both my Sentros with 46 and 22 pin machines. Love my Addis.

The two hats at 23:13 do show a difference in size. The Sentro, to me, looks larger and with slightly nicer stitches. I think the added 2 needles make a difference. I like that you gave a real honest opinion on the two. Other sites that give their "honest opinion" always seems skewed towards the Addi as if they need to justify the high price. Thanks. I know a few people that have the Sentro and they love them.

While shopping I found another plus to the Addi machine. They offer a power adapter, to replace the crank.. Just FYI : The Addi is more expensive, but may be worth it if you’re sure you’ll use it often because of the power crank, which you buy separately.

I've had my sentro for almost 3 years now, I have not had any problems with it, it's nice to do a quick knit, but I have AD\HD, bi polar as well as super high anxiety, I prefer to hand knit or crochet, watched a video last night of somebody making tubular strips and then making a warm blanket with it, so far I've knitted 2 blankets, but thinking of trying the knitting machine for a blanket and see what happens, only had my sentro drop stitches once when I first started out, hasn't happened since

I bought a Sentro and have continually had issues with dropped stitches. :( I've also found it to be rather picky with which yarn it accepts. Only 3 or 4 weight yarns work in my machine, but even so, there are some 4 weights that it just will not accept, which is rather frustrating. My machine actually broke a few months ago, as we were in the process of moving, and frankly I wasn't upset in the least! When I have the money, I plan to invest in the Addi!
@GiftsHQ
@GiftsHQ Год назад
Overall Addi is a better made machine but there are some little hacks out there you can try with the Sentro when working with different yarns. I will be creating a video after I finish all the testing and will let you know my findings. You also may be able to fix the Sentro. They sell replacement pins for a few dollars in case you want to give it another try. -Nancy ❤

I purchased a sentro 48 last week and have tried 6 times to crank a hat - the last time getting to about 5 yards left of the yarn skein when it started skipping stitches AGAIN!! I spent 2 days trying. My sentro was not a smooth crank at all. The row counter stopped about the 5th row. Amazon is replacing it for me and I am hopeful, after watching this video, that I may get one that works as well as yours! A friend has knit 25 hats for gifts and has found the hat fits a child to an adult size. Need a smaller size for a baby/toddler. I enjoyed your video!

For a smaller size (baby size) I did about 60-80 rows. Also make a note if your machine keeps on skipping on the same needle. It may mean that needle needs to be replaced. Glad they are sending you a new one. Share a picture of your finished project. I would love to see it!

Thanks for this comprehensive video. I have both of these machines. They both work well. The Addi feels a bit sturdier. I use light duty plastic C clamps from the hardware store to stabilize the Sentro and they work well to keep it steady. The two extra hooks on Sentro , makes a slightly larger tube which is nice. If you’re starting out I recommend the Sentro due to price. If you get into it for real, then consider the lovely but higher priced Addi. Consider that you can buy several Sentro machines for the price if one Addi. If it was a smaller price differential this would be less of an issue. What ever you can afford I say go for it. They’re really fun to use.

One thing you didn't touch on was price. Since your Addi was a gift, you may not be aware, but it sells for $230 while the Sentro is only $70. For an additional $10-20, you can buy a set of clamps to solve the stability issue, and you're still coming out ahead with regards to price. Since they both seem to produce the same quality of projects, I see no benefit to the Addi over the Sentro as any shortcomings the Sentro may have can be solved for less than the cost of the Addi. Also, while spare parts don't come with the Sentro, extra pins can be purchased online for as little as $4 each. At that price, you'd have to break just about ever pin on the Sentro before the Addi comes out ahead.
@GiftsHQ
@GiftsHQ Год назад
Thanks for your feedback Stephanie. The price was on the beginning of the video. Sentro is definitely budget friendly and can be a decision breaker. It really just depends on what is important to the person. Either way I love both machines and projects are fun to make! -Nancy ❤

The Addi does not have a yarn tensioner. That is a yarn feeder and there are two ways to load it for thinner and thicker yarns. The tension is controlled by hand. The two systems are quite different as the Sentro has the yarn tensioner allowing you to crank without holding the yarn. But I wouldn’t recommend it.

Hi Nancy, I love this video and I learned a lot, it was very informative, there are a lot of advantages and disadvantages from using both machines. I think I like the Sentro because it has the 3 different tensions, it cranks easily even though I have heard of problems with the row counter parts and also about the tension gadget breaking off...money wise it's cheaper and it would be perfect for me a beginner...now regarding the yarn weight, I heard it does not do very well with bulky yarn. But like I said I have to experience it myself to confirm or deny any testimony..lol thanks this makes everything so easy...I am more of a crocheter, but I find this machine to be very interesting and can't wait to purchase and experiment with it.

Tape or velcro might have detrimental effect in table for other uses. Re suckers being difficult to fit. I learned long ago fitting tight things that a little spit lubricates just enough and dries so it doesn't slip off again unlike other lubricants. Sounds gross but it works.

In my opinion the big machine will allow you to make hats with different sizes (Both Addi and Sentro). The Addi machine gives you stoppers so you can probably make socks but you will need to modify the number of rows and then stitch it together. Otherwise use the smaller machine for socks. I've been knitting and crocheting my whole life but recently have been having issues with my hands and shoulders that is limiting my ability to craft for longer periods of time without pain - especially knitting. I found the Addi was not consistent with the tensioned (applied by hand) and had many dropped and jumped stitches. Once I put my tensioner from my knitting machines, I had no problems. The Sentro comes with a very nice tensioner and had hardly no issues. The few I had were because the yarn tangled up mid stream and caused the dropped or jumped stitches. Yarn did not seem to matter. Have fun.

So, I bought a Sentro. I thought it would be fine, I'd just buy thinner worsted yarn like Simply Soft to make hats, etc. I've had it about 2 months now, and I made a few hats at first, I had a lot of problems but I got the tension and speed down to eliminate the majority of tucked or skipped stitches. Then my row counter broke. I also realized that the Sentro is LOUD. Today I tried making an infinity scarf from Simply Soft. I used a dryer sheet to counteract the static, and I had 32 tucked stitches in 144 rows!!! It doesn't matter how much or little tension I use, I ended up with missed stitches. What a nightmare! So, I give up. It's just not worth it to save money and have to waste so much time fixing stitches! I just ordered an Addi. I should have just bought a better quality machine to begin with.

The panel can be a little tricky at first. I would recommend you start with the tube first. When you cast on, go slow and make sure you weave through correctly. Hi, how can I make a scarf with the addi on the mode "plain" ? Because my scarf is rolling on the sides.
@GiftsHQ
@GiftsHQ 3 месяца назад
Hi Caro! Thank you for watching my video. Yes, you can make a scarf using the "plain" mode (panel) on the Addi knitting machine. However, I've only tried it once and don't use this method because it tends to make the scarf roll up, just like what happened to you. To solve this issue, you can crochet a border all around the scarf to stiffen the edges and help keep it flat. If you've seen my other videos on making scarves, you'll notice that I use the tubular mode on the knitting machine. I crank all the rows needed to make the scarf the length I want and then stitch the ends closed. This way creates a scarf that is double layered, and is thicker and warmer. I also find it quicker and easier than cranking and stopping to switch sides while making a panel. Cranking continuously until you reach the right number of rows works best for me. (Pro Tip: Using a low powered electric screwdriver and attachment gets it done super fast.) Yes, it uses more yarn, but yarn isn't too expensive, and you end up with a better scarf in my humble opinion. I hope this helps. I appreciate you. - Nancy ❤️

You mention that the Addi comes with 6 extra pins, but show 4 white and 1 black. I own both machines and luckily I’ve never needed to replace a needle on either. In my mind the biggest difference is price. They’re both plastic knitting machines. If you’re using a large table you can’t secure all four legs on the Addi, but a gripper mat or double stick tape solves the issue on the Sentro. My recommendation would be to save your money and at least start out with a Sentro.

As for price - the Sentro has a better price at about 1/3 or 1/4 the price (depending on the deal you get) than the Addi. As for handling different types of yarn - the Addi seems to not have as much issues than the Sentro when it comes to that. They are both good machines. The way I would put is that if you are making items in volume and need a sturdy dependable machine then I would pay extra for the Addi. If this is just a hobby, you want to try something different, and will only make a couple items or gifts to giveaway, then save your money and get a Sentro. The most important thing is that as soon as you get any of these machines is that you test them right away. If they do not crank smooth or properly, or you do not like it. Then return it right away. I have experienced this and hear of others having the same issue. Just want you to know. So what's the best? I guess it depends what works best for you. Happy Holidays! - Nancy ❤️

Hi. There's a funny story to this question. I was looking for a circular knitting machine. Of course, I came across the Addi and the Sentro machines. I did my research. The Addi was out of stock in the USA at the time. And as you know, the Addi is much more expensive than the Sentro. So I Initially brought the Sentro. My husband was in the background seeing all of this. And at one of my Saturday Livestreams, right before we were going to start. I received this large box. Matter of fact it's in one of them, I don't remember which one. And in it, my husband, tells me that I could not open it and to share it as an unboxing. This was in this video ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DxYibzccgCg.html . Long story short, my husband bought it for me as a gift (knowing that I could not find it here in the USA at the time and that I probably wouldn't have bought it due to the price). He ended up buying it on eBay from a reputable seller from Australia. So that's the story behind that. Thanks for your comment and for watching my videos. - Nancy ❤

Yes you can. You will need a crochet hook and the smaller addi or sentro machine for socks. -Nancy ❤

No, these machines only make stockinette. You can ladder evefyother row after youve finished and then rework those columns with a crochet hook but id rather just put the piece onto knitting needles to work the ribbing.
