SUMMARY
I think this safe is well worth the money. It covers everything you would need a gun safe for, and then some. I have found this gun safe to be well built and very durable. This Pistol Safe is reinforced with heavy duty 12 gauge solid steel construction. The SentrySafe Quick Access Biometric Pistol Safe is specifically designed with a pry-resistant door that helps prevent unauthorized access to your firearm. Internal storage is sufficient for a 4 inch revolver. This gun safe is Whisper quiet when opened as seen in the video. I also like the fact that this safe has a programmable digital keypad with zero audible feedback, in case the fingerprint scanner malfunctions.

I bought one of these sans the biometrics new at an auction for $40 about 7 years ago. (It was a couple years before this video was made.) I have to change the batteries about every year and a half, but I don't open it much or it would probably be more often. Also mine probably needs less juice since it doesn't have the fingerprint mode. My gas strut made it 4 years. I pried the lid open for a couple years and finally I ordered a couple (they came in pairs) off Amazon for $28. It only took a few minutes to replace and now I have a spare strut. I have been thinking for some time about buying one that is purely mechanical. Those are reputed to be the most secure, but they cost several hundred so that's why I have been dragging my feet. Can't make up my mind if I need a second one. Getting the first one was a no brainer. It is a must very everyone that wants to keep a loaded handgun. If you don't own one of these then please keep your handguns unloaded unless you are at the range. It's just smart.

I’ve had zero battery issues after owning for at least 18 months. No problem with the strut either. My strut actually has an assist spring on it, so it’s going to open enough to get your fingers in and open the lid. I painted mine to match the interior color of my truck so it blends in better than black. I also drilled bigger holes and bolted short chains on so I can lock it to seat belt anchors. It sits under my fold down console. Epoxied a 3/4”x3/4” strip of wood to the lid right behind the buttons to keep the console from constantly pushing the buttons. The only time I keep a firearm in it is if I have to go into a courtroom or federal building for a short period, otherwise I conceal carry full time. Everybody’s needs are different. I’ve had two pistols stolen from my vehicle throughout 30 years, including the truck itself. My concern is that they get in the wrong hands for bad reasons. At the very least, I will make it more difficult on thieves, and it’s highly doubtful, they’ll get another one from my truck. It also comes in handy if I have to drive in California to visit relatives. There’s zero reasons for authorities to know what’s inside. Overall, I think this is a secure safe but you need to make sure you stay in practice with the opening procedures. Mine is pre fingerprint, but I have little faith in them. Only I know where the extra keys are.

Glad to hear the safe is working well for you. I completely agree with you about practicing the opening procedures, most people don't realize how much you rely on muscle memory when that adrenaline hits. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Every time I try resetting it it blinks blue as shown in the video but turns red. Also fingerprint not code won’t work either,leaving me to wait 2 minutes each time.

I have the same safe i picked it in under 2 minutes not hard to pick its a great safe make sure its bolted down so they dont run off with it because it will be picked easily with no effort
@unmatchedvalue
@unmatchedvalue 4 года назад
Yeah I picked this several times also, although I'm not as experienced so it took me a little bit the first time. If a person has experience any of the safes in this price range can be picked fairly easy. But this is still better then some of those other safes you can pick with a pen in like 1 minute.

the gas strut on this often fails very quickly. In 2013 I bought the same design same parts version without fingerprint reader. gas strut failed at about 14 months. Out of warranty. Sentry claimed they never heard of the issue and had no spare gas struts to send or sell.. I figured it was a fluke and liked other features so much that I bought a replacement one in 2014. That gas strut failed in 2017. as background I open it about once a month. I then looked at amazon reviews and saw dozens and dozens of people with same issue. In fact most reviewers who came back after two or three years downgraded their reviews Last year Sentry started selling struts for $25 plus shipping. Expect to spend $100 more on spare struts to have this working with any confidence for 10 years. Sentyr knows there is a serious issue with this safe

Hi, R D thank you for your comment. I did come across the gas strut issue while doing my research on this safe. The amount of people that have the gas strut fail is very small, talking like .001%. Honestly seems like you won the bad luck lottery in this case. I understand that it is not a pleasant feeling to be the one who gets to be that .001%, but as with any product, you will never have something that works flawlessly 100% of the time. Although i am kind of disappointed withe the Sentry Safe customer service. As far as i can tell this safe is still one of the best made and best rated gun safes of this type out there.

@RD-dt6dm 6 лет назад
yea the number s huge, about 75% of those on amazon commenting after two or three years of ownership have had it fail. Not a question of it working 99.999% of the time but under 50% of the time after a few years.
@unmatchedvalue
@unmatchedvalue 6 лет назад
Yeah while that is true, but you have to take into account the fact that the majority of the people whose product works fine and does not fail, don't usually go online and comment after a few years of ownership. But thank you for bringing this up i'll keep an eye on it. If i see reviews with strut failure increase i will adjust accordingly.

Costco stopped selling this item due to the problems. The manager where I bought mine said most got returned over the years. If you got it from Amazon or Home Depot, you just chuck it and move on. But sellers who warrant it for more than one year have stopped carrying it due to all of them dying.

Why does the owners manual how to set up a fingerprint in a totally different way than you showed.. oh and BTW, my safe does not have a reset button behind the battery compartment.. but if I go to program the fingerprint scanner using the owners Manuel's version of doing so, step by step to the T, it fails to register every finger I have.. that 10 FINGERS.. AND NO RESET BUTTON.. EXPLAIN THIS PLEASE!!

This is an older video. I'm assuming they have since updated their design.

I've had mine close to 5 years and it no longer flings open. It literally opens up two inches and have to manually push it up. Any fixes for this? Thanks
@unmatchedvalue
@unmatchedvalue 3 года назад
Now I have not personally done this fix myself, but I believe you can simply replace the strut. Check out the comments on this amzn.to/3uboaul people seem to have successfully replaced the strut.

Thank you, Its not to bad actually considering this video was taken on a pretty flimsy plastic table and the safe was not bolted down. I have a Hornady Rapid Safe 2600kp and the opening sound is about the same as the Sentry Safe.

Do not buy this safe! I purchased two of them four years ago and after the third year the gas struts on both units lost all power. This means you will receive an unlock safe but it will not open unless you turn it upside down! Customer service is nonexistent. I was on hold for over an hour. Sentry DOES NOT SELL replacement struts. I looked at other RU-vid videos on people experiencing the same problem and “found “ replacement struts on Amazon. I tried this route, and after two different orders the struts do not fit and are to powerful for this unit. You also have to do a great deal of alterations to aftermarket struts and they do not work. Very frustrating and also money waisted. Find another company for your pistol safe or expect 3-4 years use then waisted. Thank you for reading.
