Hurley maker and fixer Seosamh Breathnach explains how he got into hurling and how he started up his own hurley making business as well as the process behind making the perfect hurley.
One thing that is unique about Hurley makes is their passion and emotion to thier craft. Cricket bats are just a piece of shaped wood, but a Hurley is still a part of an ash tree which has been kept almost alive by their crafters.
When I was a kid that would have been the keepers hurley with the big boss. Ours were smaller. They use to get repaired with metal bands an nails. Helmets were optional. Took a few across the head at Erin's Isle in the 70s which probably explains a lot. Great to see someone with a passion for their work and the game. Good luck!
