Thank you, that's very helpful. I have a 7 month old Springer Spaniel and he is my little shadow. I can't move without him being there by my side.

Hello, we have a 13 week old cockapoo puppy and I just wanted to ask if it OK to be expecting this kind of behaviour from him already or if he is too young? I really want him to be able to sit and wait at the door etc and to have the manners. He will currently cry when we leave the room (he is based in the kitchen due to small children and toys often scattered in the other rooms) the crying lasts around 5 minutes and he will then lay down or go to sleep on his own eventually. is that ok for him to cry when we leave and then settle himself? Thank you so much, Emily

If he cries and then settles in in a reasonable time that’s fine yes and I encourage you to keep gently pushing the duration alone so that it is similar to a school run, shopping etc. Take your time and keep working on the training and manners and I’m sure you’ll come good.

I have a 7 month old romanian rescue who I got in April so he has been with me every since. He already has some behavioural issues but after trying to leave him to leave him just to walk round the block I heard him crying before I got out the garden gate and its been the same since. I've tried a couple of times since still the same, any advice please

Daily short departures. Start at 1 minute say and build from there. Completely ignore upon return and only engage once settled down after your return. If food driven and sufficiently interested, you can provide stuffed Kongs or lick mats to distract in your absence. Keep a note of each days behaviour and progress as this can help you plot your progress. Daily and build is the essence of your efforts. Follow the information on the video on separation anxiety. Good luck. Thanks. Nick

Hi there. We pick our cavapoochon up next week. I am going to crate train. I’ve seen lots of people say they don’t go to the dog when they whine at night. But what about toilet breaks? How do I know the difference between a cry for attention or a cry for needing a wee? Should I just let them wee in the crate? Please help x

Avoid big drinks close to bedtime and yes, you may have the occasional accident, but don’t sweat it.
