Sephardic Selichot/סליחות מלא

In the Sephardic tradition, recital of Selichot in preparation for the High Holidays begins on the second day of the Hebrew month of Elul. In the Ashkenazic tradition, it begins on the Saturday night before Rosh Hashanah. If, however, the first day of Rosh Hashanah falls on Monday or Tuesday, Selichot are said beginning the Saturday night prior to ensure that Selichot are recited at least four times. This may be because originally the pious would fast for ten days during the season of repentance, and four days before Rosh Hashanah were added to compensate for the four of the Ten days of Repentance on which fasting is forbidden - the two days of Rosh Hashanah, Shabbat Shuvah, and the day preceding Yom Kippur - and, while the fasts have since been abandoned, the Selichot that accompanied them have been retained. Alternatively, the Rosh Hashanah liturgy includes the Biblical phrase, "you shall observe a burnt offering", and like an offering which needs to be scrutinised for defects for four days, so too four days of self-searching are needed before the day of judgment.[1]
Selichot refers to both the poetic piyyutim that compose the service as well as to the service itself. Sephardic Selichot services are identical each day. In the Ashkenazic tradition, different texts are recited on the different days. Though the text and length of specific prayers varies from day to day, the overall format remains the same. The service begins with the recitation of Ashrei (Psalm 145), followed by the Half-Kaddish.
Selichot are usually recited between midnight and dawn. Some recite it at night after the 'Arvit service or in the morning before the Shacharit service due to the convenience of synagogue attendance at these times.
Arguably the most important and certainly most popular night of Selichot in the Ashkenazi tradition is the first night, when many women and girls as well as men and boys attend the late-night service on Saturday night. The hazzan wears a kittel and sings elaborate melodies. In some congregations, it is not unusual for a choir to participate in this first night's service. This night also has more Selichot than any other night prior to Rosh Hashanah eve. The other nights are more sparsely attended and those services are often led by a layperson, rather than a trained musician, and with melodies that are less elaborate than the first night

bigtimes1 davening? What davening? Repeating the same words you pray everyday from your siddur? Why do you "pray" the same exact words from a book every single day? They are not even your own words! And most of the time, the people in the shul recite words from the siddur as fast as they can so that they can finish early and go to work. What is that? They are not even praying or thinking about God! They are speeding through memorized words as fast as they can and jumbling all the words together without even thinking about anything they are saying. That's not prayer, that's not what God wants from us. You are repeating memorized words without even thinking or knowing what it means. The Muslims and Hindus and the other religions do the same. God doesn’t want religion from us, He wants a relationship with us. That is why Jesus the Messiah said this: Matthew 6:5-8 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on with meaningless repetitions as the people who claim to be religious do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Do not be like them, for your Father in Heaven knows what you need before you ask Him. And when you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”

Baruch Hashem, I have returned to my roots after 59 years of been a Christian and my family from Castilla la Vieja in Spain were forced to convert of else... My family are still ignorant, but Hashem, blessed is He, is awesome, He, in his infinite mercy revealed to me that I was from the tribe, and ever since then I researched and found out my ancestry. I haven't been able to go to shul of the Sephardim because there aren't any here in Mesa, Arizona, where I reside. But I was able to attend a Sephardic synagogue a year and a half ago in NYC on 72nd street and Riverside Dr., I was visiting my sister temporarily due to illness, and when I visited the shul my heart was destroyed because I felt the love for my G-d and my people deep in my heart and soul. It is ingrained in us the Hebrews the closeness to our Giver of life, the G-d of Israel. I loved the service so much, it was beautiful!! I was up stairs where the women stand, and the women were singing like the men in the choir. How beautiful and moving it was all my stay. Some day soon, we will all be together with our people and the redemption of Israel. Next year in Yerushalaim!!! B"H

Beautiful Selichot Prayers.😍 Unfortunely some people criticize. (Why they don't wear...... Why they don't ..... Why why...etc) My question is:---. Why catholics worship pictures. Why they believe in a dead man. Why they ask for miracles to a doll is made of gold, wood.ceramic etc ? No Jewish go to churches to criticize. I am not Jewish. Thanks "HS" opened my eyes of idolatry including yeshu. No more yashka padrik. So be respecful. Don't come to criticize.
