I lived in New City remember walking to the old school, this was about 1938 and went to Pearl River High School...what wonderful memories...thank you for doing this
I lived in New City back in 1959 My father owned the New City Luncheonette Any one remember "Whitey"s Really enjoyed this video Many memory's.Thank you
This was so wonderful! I grew up in New City & West Nyack in the Sixties and Seventies, but haven't been back very often since, so this was really a treat. So much has changed, but you must be roughly my age, because you remember the same things that I do. Thanks again!
At the 29:09 point, behind the Back to Earth (formally Mama Luisa's), was there a Judo studio there? I used to take karate there as kid back in the late 70's & early 80's. I just do not remember the exact location, but it looks familiar.
I left New City in 86-graduated Albertus Magnus in 84. Lived on Cypress st and then Rolling way. Worked at Al and Jans-then it was mikes, gas station on old 304 across from Mr Christies house (the old Christie airport) Thank you for making this! I'll probably never get to get back to New City Cant believe how much the trees grew along 304!
I use to go to New City all the time in the 1980s. My cousins grew up there. Great times and now more than ever I am so thankful I got to know the people there. Growing up in Queens was pretty rough in those days. You mentioned you went to Albertus Magnus. My cousin graduated there in 1989.
Thank you for doing this. I grew up in Bardonia, right off 304, (you passed right by my old street) and went to church on New Hempstead Road. I moved away 13 years ago. I really enjoyed your 1985 video and was hoping there was also a more recent one, so I'm really glad you took the second one on Sunday. And yes, you're right, the condos are where the Monterey Swim Club used to be. I used to play back there all the time after the swim club closed.
Very nice tour. It broke my heart a little, since I spent much time either by bike or by car through all the areas you traveled. I was not totally surprised though since I've been back off and on throughout the years. . I grew up in Bardonia, school in New City, church in Pearl River and hanging out everywhere during the '50, 60's, 70s. You've creatd a great keepsake. Thanks so much for doing this. Good films/video, thanks. You probably lived right by the Daquinos on Sycamore Drive, across fro the Tveits on New Hempstead. I remember hitchhiking back home in the evening from Pomona JHS in the mid 60's, down New Hempstead Road. We had ONE car pass us in a half hour. Then down West Clarkstown Rd. to our homes. We had to walk all the way, no rides. We lived off West Clarkstown on Mirror Lake Road since the 1950's, and saw all the changes. We used to walk the length of Pascack Road as well, and probably passed you walking on the other side!
+Stewart Schwartz You are correct. The Daquinos lived on Sycamore Drive and I lived off Sycamore. In the early 70s I cut both the Daquino and Tveit lawns as my primary source of income, lol. My sisters were friends with the girls in both families and my parents with theirs. Even in the early to mid 70s New Hempstead Road wasn't heavily travelled in the evening. Sometimes 15 minutes would pass without a car going by.
Thank you so much. I grew up on Congers Road. This brings back memories. Could you show where Bradlees/Mini City used to be? Met my wife at that bus stop. I also watched as they tore down the little movie theater nearby.
@@jeffberger6162 Haven't been there for years, but the last I saw of it, the Bradlees building was abandoned, but still there. Probably gone now, too. I saw "Jaws" with my dad in that theater. Waited on line for an hour to see it. The first time that happened.
