Chanterelle mushrooms are delicious and fun to forage. Wild mushrooms can be a bit intimidating but Aaron of Mushroom Wonderland hopes to make it more accessible to everyone, and not only educational but entertaining.
On this video we go in search of Chanterelle mushrooms and we get really lucky. We, being me and my dogs.
I'm a mycology educator from Kitsap County Washington and I am always walking in the woods and filming mushrooms and making cool videos. Sometimes I have famous and well-known mycologists on the show to talk about wild mushrooms and walk in the woods with me. We will not accept any responsibility for negligence or accidental ingestion of poisonous mushrooms or plants. These videos are not intended to be a definitive field guide, but rather a starting point to become familiar with habitat, Everyone is encouraged to do their own studies, acquire literature or internet resources to safely and confidently identify wild foods before they eat them. When eating a new wild mushroom, it is advised to start with only a small amount, and make sure that it is fresh and that it is cooked thoroughly. Some mushrooms do not agree with certain individuals, and this is typically discovered on a case-by-case basis. Even the most edible of mushrooms contain compounds that can be tough for the human digestive tract to handle. Some “edible” species have small amounts of certain toxins that will easily break down with cooking. Fungi contains a molecule known as chitin that is the same thing that makes the exoskeleton of shellfish so hard, and cannot be broken down by the human digestive system, so it is another good reason to thoroughly cook mushrooms. All the ideas expressed in the comments should be taken with a large grain of salt. I don’t think there is any other field of study or science that has more misinformation being shared so freely and boldly. Mushroom Wonderland and Aaron himself have no opinion and neither encourage nor discourage the use of mushrooms containing mind-altering compounds. These mushrooms contain powerful chemicals and should be treated with a high level of responsibility. Any video topics on the habitat, natural distribution, and morphological features of psychoactive mushrooms portrayed on this channel are purely for scientific and educational purposes.

What a lovely video! Thank you. The reishi are all sporting in my forest so today I made a nice haul. Our chanterelle season was a banger for about 6 weeks here in central Florida. When the hurricane came through in early august they just stopped. They are coming back again now but it’s the winter ones. I found red chants the size of my fist with those cool ruffles on the top too. This forest is very clean. I think the ruffles are because the area is pristine not the opposite. 😊

You could cut the bottom of the bucket off & replace it with mesh hardware cloth so the mushrooms don't get soggy & you are spreading spores more effectively. It's wild that your channel is in my top 5, I love the outdoors & haven't been out much since I moved up here. My back is toast & I can barely make it thru a day of work, let alone a hike. It's making me depressed & I don't have any friends or family up here so your vids keep me alive. I really do greatly appreciate your vids Aaron, thank you.

That's interesting. Because in Norway too, it's really rare for chanterelles to be wormy. I found a absolutely huge hedgehog mushroom on Sunday though(on the way back to the car of course). Sadly it was full of worms, so I stuck it on a dead branch so it could hopefully spread spores more easily XD

I wonder how El Nino/La Nina effects mushroom season. I believe there was a Nino last fall/winter, which usually makes it drier/slightly warmer in the PNW. No Nino this year = Better mushroom conditions maybe.

This means I need to keep my eyes open, for Cantharellus subaldibus X Psilocybe (smelled like anis ..and looked like a pale allenii), bred with it and returned some to the source decor. I am so anxious to try one, some of these hybrids make me wait more than a year to see them again. Also making an Agaricus alvesis X Panaeolus cyanescens (Sertonin-producing) hybrid. Spore colours match and another potentially anis flavoured hybrid. A friend brought the horse mushroom from the patch I fertilised with fancy Pans, so I might be ahead a step for sharing spores reliably.

Hi Aaron, I have a question. I performed a taste spit test on a mushroom and the tip of my tongue felt tingly. What does that mean? also will the UV lights help on all non-ediblemushrooms? I was out foraging out at Schaeffer State Park in Mason County. Came across some mushrooms that look a lot like the Chantrell, they’re white very similar the ones that you’re showing on this video.
@mushroomwonderland1
@mushroomwonderland1 День назад
@@Hector-vx5yc they probably were white chanterelles, The forest is lousy with them right now. The UV light only reacts to certain mushrooms. A tingly tongue could be a sign of it being acrid or spicy.

Chante-cybes? ..I went night foraging, out of desire to collect the tallish red-capped King Oyster X Psilocybe hybrid with the somewhat decurrent gills. Instead, I returned from the dark forest with another decurrent hybrid, that is shorter and has decurrent gills due to the shorter Cantharellus parent. The earliest "Chante-cybes" were thumb-shaped and yellow ..these look more like Psilocybes, as though they are back-crossed to Psilocybe and fruit later. These are a slightly yellowish hybrid, that have slightly decurrent gills. I want them now, I noticed there has been no rain for four days, yet not one specimen is bug-eaten nor over-ripe ..handy genetic traits to select for and the complete impotency of Cantharellus is already genetically altered with Psilocybin-producing DNA, in this case ..half-way to a dominant Psilocybin-producing trait.

Seriously how are you getting mushrooms? And how are most importantly how are you getting rain? Technically most of the country is still reporting massive heat waves. As I have mentioned earlier it's so dry a fire could ignite the entire Midwest at this point!
@ScottieD369
@ScottieD369 День назад
By the way it's like the first time ever that you used a bucket! I definitely think you need more holes! I know you're not as patient as me but I generally put thousands of holes in my bucket. The less weight the better! Because when you have a full bucket your arms will really feel it walking back! And if it's hot out it's definitely undesirable and dreadful. So yeah I've been trying to think of a way how I can put some wheels on it and pull it with a string!
@ScottieD369
@ScottieD369 День назад
Pps typically nobody cares how about you forging mushrooms in the woods. so trying to run away from other people in the forest or hide is kind of ridiculous. it's pretty rare to come across other mushroom foragers. But with any public areas competition is a concern. As far as being on public or private lands at not allowed it's rare that you would ever get talk to or process 4. I'm just stating this because a lot of them worries that people do is really only in their own head. Always do your own thing! This year I've been getting looked at a lot because I've been wearing a mesh from head to toe and everyone looks at me crazy! But I'm enjoying myself and collected mushrooms and not a single mosquito can bother me while others get eaten alive! Stay true brother! As you said the season has just begun! Just hope it doesn't instantly freeze and cut your season short as it has in the past to all of us!

Soo... if picking them only helps populate growth, then why is it regulated??? I would just fill a bucket, dump it in my backpack & then fill another bucket. I'm done following stupid laws that are only made to make money from us & further restrict our freedoms! Don't tell me I live in a free country but restrict me soo much that we don't have freedoms.
@mushroomwonderland1
@mushroomwonderland1 День назад
@@Antler_addict some of the regulations involve purchasing a permit, which the money is spent towards conservation of habitat, and in that way it is good. But some of it comes purely from control and antiquated ideas about how fungi works. The sentiment is good but the understanding is lacking.
@Antler_addict
@Antler_addict День назад
@mushroomwonderland1 the, "conservation" part is pocketed & spent elsewhere. It should all go to the study of fungi! Again, how are these laws going to "conservation" when you just proved that picking them helps the spread & livelihood of an organism??? Am I wrong? Maybe you should educate these ignorant folk on how to do their job... that they clearly know nothing about. Just saying...
