As Zulu person working and living abroad I appreciate hearing all the South African languages regardless if I understand or not. I believe we should all be proud of our native languages without making other feel less of others.
Stop falling for this nonsense this guy Seputla is a soar loser and he is jealous that's all I can say anyway this is an old episode I don't why David Mashabela bring this episode back check his Headline "If you can't speak zulu be prepared to starve" HIDDEN AGENDA VIBE!
Yah and there are more than a few unsavory personalities in the upper echelons of any field especially the media industry. They don't run diversity charities and kumbaya but return on investment, they follow the money.
Will always remember him for Suburban Bliss. Arguably SA's best sitcom. Grew up watching this in Zimbabwe. Separately, I echo other comments to please include subtitles if you want to increase viewership. Would have loved to watch the interview
This is one of our best actors and he can talk most of the languages fluently including Zulu. I notice lately because of the economy depending what tribe or language you represents is more relevant. Multi choice cut productions so they buy cheap Indian or Turkish productions. Turkey translate for Afrikaans. Bollywood is trsnslate mostly to English and Xhosa now. This country got so much local stories and talent but politicians are ruining it. Media personell and actors loosing their jobs at an alarming rate.
Zulu is the biggest tribe here in South Africa and the most spoken native language so obvious it has more audience and support, I guess that what makes you think it privileged
As a zulu i can genuinely say i promote movies and sopies done in zulu because its what i understand and I'm comfortable with. If it's not English it's Zulu otherwise it's a struggle and feels like work to always read subtitles so i stop watching or lose interesting 😅😅😅
I don't think this thing is about Zulu, its about Nguni languages in general. There are more Nguni people than any other people in this country and they turn to support there own first because of relatebility. Every single culture has their own radio station but Ukhozi has way more listeners than any other radio station because Zulu people support their own first than support other ngunis before they go out side
Simple and I'm noticing more and more we're being inculcated into hating ourselves as bakaMthaniya. Business is business it's not a charity run by arts and culture most of these media companies have foreign investment and only think about return on investment. You don't simply wake up one day and make an expensive production like Shaka ILembe without insane monetary backing.
No one is asking why all of us we should speak English to survive in most corporates in SA,the day we embrace one popular spoken indigenous language to be the second strong language in SA will be free from oppression. Our dream as youth it to see Swahili spoken by everyone in Africa.(It not about tribe but embrace the language spoken in most african countries)
I am Zulu and this issue of Languages concern me. Please dont fight with me, I just want clarity. Firstly, except for the soapies based in KZN, all soapies incorporate other languages apart from Zulu. Generations is a good example. Secondly, SABC 2 used to play a lot of Setswana and Sepedi stories. Are Pedis and Tswanas watching this channel to support their languages? Also, there are radio stations that are dedicated to these laguages. No one will invest or write a story in Languages that are not supported. Zulu's support their language, music and radio stations. Are other cultures not doing the same? Why?
Zulu is being pushed ahead of all the others. Even the music industry. Noticed it a long time ago. With the old stories, the language were very diverse and well represented without pushing an agenda. They are trying to make it the primary language for business in south Africa as they are doing with swahili in most of the African countries without having to resort to English between Africans. That's why even digital translators have zulu, afrikaans and rarely the other languages.
That's why most amapiano song or popular hids are sang in mostly zulu then other nguni languages. Those artist aren't all zulus, they are forced into a corner to be deemed 'viable '
@@rawvillageoriginals1938 Is it not because other cultures do not support the arts in their own Languages? Do you guys watch SABC 2? Why is uKhozi the biggest radio station. That means other cultures do not listen to their radio in numbers.
@@rawvillageoriginals1938 I beg to differ, no one is pushing Zulu. Things thst come in Zulu are successful because Zulus support their language. It therefore makes sense for a Motswana to write a Zulu song coz he knows it will be a success
KZN is the second largest populated province in SA, with mainly one language spoken. Production companies are interested in numbers, if something is in a popular language it will highly likely trend. Things like social cohesion, diversity, culture integration are not their priority.@@kwaziduma1530 Here on RU-vid unlike on multichoice and SABC, theres a variety of other languages in music, podcasts, and movies.
I stopped watching TV 6years back,I don't have TV in my house because I realized that What ever is on our scene doesn't serve me and my interest. It took me time to reach that decision because I was soo addicted to channel 171,but i managed to get over it... but currently books and RU-vid are my darlings.
We speak isiZulu and understand other Nguni languages. Unfortunately, the emphasis on learning certain languages early is not solely due to their size; rather, it is influenced by tribalism. We tell people to be proud of the Africanness, then we turn to derogate them based on how and what they speak. Even when conversing with Tsonga people, I find it challenging to do so in the presence of Zulu individuals without encountering derogatory comments. The issue is that those of us who can communicate in almost all the languages are accused of promoting tribalism when we speak out against it. Somehow this guy had to learn another language to survive, the person who has the comfort to speak just one language and have their way still call out Seputla, the person who is making a reference to English and all only knows his mother tongue and through that, he can have 80/100 opportunities than other black people in this country. My issue is one, some languages are more official than others, based on that, some people are more human and equal than others. We talk about equality when it suits us, but when it comes to facing inequality issues across the board, guess what, the least diverse on African cultures blame those who are more diverse for hating on Africanism. Every African is ready to talk about discrimination until tribalism is put on the table. Somehow you realise why white people are so defensive on racism. It;s very inhumane that people who perpetuate tribalism will tell the victims to just get over it and not complain since they don't complain about English.. Such mentality is the reason why we still facing the traumas of colonialism and apartheid, especially in education. Most children are not dumb, they only have a challenge called English, fact that Children don't complain, doesn't make it fair. We think white people are smart, they just have an advantage called English, as I say again, we do not refuse to speak Isizulu, we know the language, anyone who doesn't want to learn your culture looks down on you, perfect example is Europeans when they came to Africa, they enforced their culture, It doesn't feel much different today. Only difference, it's being done systemically by Africans.
We'll speak our language proudly so and whether it's on tv shows or not we don't care. You have no problem speaking English but you think you have a right to bully us so that we don't speak isiZulu sethu.Kwagogo eZola!!
@@sthe_zar6341 You talk about pride of using your language, if I ask you what is that pride, I doubt you can explain in a manner that makes sense even to yourself, this is not about pride, in a normal and fait SA, we shouldn't be using English, fact that you assume uri we all worship the language troubles me, you didn not read my response. My response is stating that why is it that proud Zulu individuals have problems with other people speaking their language..If you are really proud as you say. Why are you bothered so much by other languages yourself. Language is just a means of communication, doesn't define your heritage, your heritage determines your language, and I'm not talking about the 1700s and 1800s heritage, no. Before that, if you kknew the story of Africans you wouldn't be this naive, you would seek to understand other languages, just like the people you look down on. It is not pride, it's ignorance to look down on other Africans simply based on what they speak. Even if you understand what they saying on tv, because of your ignorance, you still act like you don't just to fill the stupid ego. no one can explain what tribal pride is. Every tribe was conquered and defeated by settlers, there's nothing to be proud of, unless it's in the face of ignorance, you understand why Africans lost everything, you'll understand why the tribal system is a curse to this continent.
Exactly I don’t see people complain about english being an international language, I get it no language is superior but the are other languages that will be spoken more than others ,also history plays a big role in this
I love you guys, I just wish you would pounder on this: it is not about tribalism it is SABC caused this things & not created social cohesion. When South Africa started when dramas in GP were made in Sepedi as the tribe white people that was in the Transvaal = Boers/Dutch colony. After defeat of Bapedi in 1879 Transvaal was made in to West, East and Northern Transvaal which included Pretoria . In 1910 we became a country British/Colony(Cape), Natal(British/Colony, Orange Free State(British Colony). When dramas were supposed to use investments from the country resources they found in GP to create social cohesion that included all languages. Some ignorant people in the SABC made a mistake and not invested in all languages in portraying them in Generations etc we could have made language or social cohesion easier . Now this disadvantaged even tribes of the Transvaal are not included. We missed an opportunity cause of SABC and the ignorant black government.

I see many comments stating "tribalism" and I fail to fathom that because for instance MultiChoice is a huge white corporation and the Zulu stories get to be supported by an overwhelmingly vast majority because of the high population of the Zulus which is the highest. It's the same with the music. When artists sing in Zulu, they get much support. Look at how massively Maskandi artists are being supported by just only Zulus and mostly from the rural Nothern KZN. There are many radios stations but look at how how Ukhozi fm, a Zulu based radio station is so dominant, it's the support from its people, let's not be swayed into harbouring hate for one another. The government currently is so diverse, and most of the officials aren't Zulu, so it's not amaZulu who are sidelining other nations, I hate the word tribe. I think the provinces should advocate for more production of stories in their respective native languages. In that way, there won't be a need for other entertainers to strictly know and speak Zulu to be successful. Look at what the Eastern Cape is doing with promoting isiXhosa with their many soapies, very brilliant. As person who is so passionate about the history of black people, I wish that the other nations create many stories about their history in their respective languages, in that way even a person in the most remote rural KZN or EC can be able to learn those languages. Stories of the African kings like King Hintsa, Sekhukhune, Sobhuza, Moshoeshoe, etc. should be created so that we can be enlightened as a whole nation. The Europeans always created history stories to preserve their history, and it's a swiftly efficient way of teaching as well.
Im a Zulu old woman and its true my husband was always tell that intertainment industry in South Africa is dominated by Zulu speaking people. I was so disappointed by Gqeberha the Empire when it was discontinued because of lack of viewership and I use to loved it and it happens that my nephew was working with the crew and he loved GQ so much . I don't know what needs to be done cause its true we loved our language and we respect the Zulu culture so much.
I agree with u I also left and because I had to know had to abandon my language and elevate one omong 9 I can do sepedi setswana sesotho English and Afrikaans but doing only one makes no sense to me
As a Zimbabwean l would say Zulu is the easiest Nguni language to speak once you learn Zulu you easily understand the rest of Nguni languages eg Swati,Xhosa,Ndebele and many more Zulu is abroad ningangithuka lm a Zulu descendant from Zim ngikhuluma isiNdebele we only different ngeAccent namaZulu kodwa izaga nezisho zethu kuyefana nebhayibheli sfunda elesiZulu ngaseZimbabwe phecelezi isiZulu sidlangalele smamela wona umculo wesiZulu kwaBulawayo
@@maholorathaba7177 if you can’t beat them join them Other languages can do the same but will they sell ? This is business Zulu sells it’s always been like this however other languages can push aswell
But isn't it because most people speak/hear Zulu and so it's done to reach a bigger audience and to maximize profits. I don't think the problem is the language I think it has to do with what will sell because most black people know Zulu, Xhosa, Swati and Ndebele so it's correct to do it for sales guys. I'm Zulu and honestly nobody is against any other language.
Zulu cultural Supremacy is real in south Africa and so unfortunate especially on national TV and the biggest Supremacists I have noted are moja love and Sabc. We all pay our subscriptions especially on moja love, to be catered for as well..
Let's not blame isiZulu its us who comment and Twitter about mkhokha and my brothers keeper we all know less viewers it's equivalent to cancelation of the shows so stop watching and promote your own. Kzn Government even supports their own
I am Zulu and this question comes from a conerned place. When I used to watch tv, there was SABC 2 that used to play Sepedi, Setswana etc. Also, there are radio stations that olay these languages. are Tswana's, Pedis, Sothos etc not supporting these stations and platforms? Surely they would not complain about isiZulu if they did.
@@velibrown7904 The point Im trying to make is, other language groups should stop complaining about Zulu and support their own languages so that those languages are popular too. There are radio stations, TV channels and social media they can use to support their languages.
@@kwaziduma1530 My question was directed to @mokoenasomo1067. He said isiZulu obstructed a lot of languages, I'm paraphrasing. I see that he's a coward, he won't care to explain why he made that tribalism statement.
I agree with this, if you dont speak zulu prepared to starve indeed. The production of Ishaka lembe proved this. Abt 4 billion spent on the production by multi choice but only zulu population benefitted most. I found it really unfair and further marginalising other language groups. I understand that the production was a retelling of history but, that budget could have been split to help develop other language groups in terms of bringing their concept s to life.
@@khayelihlezungu7623 Well it has been said, some sued multichoice but, it is a big entity to taken on afterall. However it wasnt even about winning the case, its done already. But what i am highlighting here is an injustice. Martin Luther Jnr said, "injustice anywhere is threat to justice everywhere."
We should look into why that is. As a Zulu, I'm very fortunate that my language is so widespread yet all of our other languages are being neglected. They're not given equal recognition. I would love to hear Tsonga and Sepedi being spoken in dialogue. It's been years since I've heard those languages being spoken
@@sibusisombatha1846 You are lucky indeed. Varios reason are put forward by the production houses n broadcasters. They tell u, lack of "exciting content", is not what viewers would like, we dont have budget now so on and so on
First it was respect acknowledged them. Many of them waisted money bought expensive clothes. If they new how to save money they would be much better financial.
Which authority supports this so called Zulu privilege. Every facet of South African politic is run by people with Limpopo roots. Even on national TV, isiZulu shares its own allocated time with other languages, not any time more. If people who speak isiZulu support their own, why blame them, as Ukhozi radio station has more listener-ship, you mean to tell me some people deliberately add to those numbers. You mean there are places in this country where isiZulu is exclusively allowed by authority to be the only language spoken, which authority is that because Ramaphosa is not umZulu, Lesufi is not umZulu. This tribalism has got to stop, there will be some serious push back and might not be comfortable for all who live in this country. You are busy planting the seed of hatred which might end up just like Rwanda. There are eleven official languages and many official announcements last time I heard were mostly made in English, nobody has prevented you from speaking your language, and you don't have to speak to isiZulu speaking person if you dont want. People should be complaining about English, not isiZulu.
Thank you for saying that I am in UK and once you say you’re South African people ask if you speak Zulu!!!! I’m like why Zulu ? Is not the only language in SA just because other languages are not given a platform doesn’t mean Zulu is the only language in SA
Life is tough out there... I know exactly what this guy wenu through coz, I made that mistake as well... and would never fall victim of that again... To me it was like, "... you've never done anything for me ... then, thanks for everything... I have found someone better"!
Zulu is spoken by maybe a million people in all the world in a small area in the southern tip of Africa. English is spoken and understood by billions throughout the world. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know which language is most important.
Next time do your research before coming here to lie and undermine African languages. There are more than 11 million Zulu people and isizulu is the most spoken language in South Africa a country with more than 60 million people. Even non Zulus speak IsiZulu.
Isizulu is the first most spoken language in South Africa. So why can't he learn the language, if that language can put food on the table? Just like were forced to learn English and Afrikaans.
I heard that isizulu is the easiest language that's why even foreigners the first language they easily learn when they come to SA is Zulu. Criminals too they use Zulu if they rob someone even if they're not Zulu

😂😂😂 exactly Zulu is the equivalent of english in this country even outside I say this because I’ve been to all southern African countries and guess what there’s people who can speak and understand isiZulu in most of these countries Let’s learn history and we will know why isiZulu is so dominant
As a Zulu personally I am super bored with this obsession with isizulu and the Zulu culture😪😩. I never watched a single Shaka ILembe episode...after The Wife - which I stopped watching ko season 2 - it's boring now😭😭😭💔expose us to other languages and cultures, come on!!
