@@Brave2standalone I watched a lot of travel vloggers come to Serbia, but none of them actually went to villages and smaller towns. Not to mention actually attending all these festivals...
@@SplitteR2B@ sorry to disappoint you, dude! One couple had a 'long run' by dividing Serbia in 4 phases; Voyvodina, BG, East Serbia and then West Serbia. They were purposely avoiding larger cities and focusing on wilderness and other 'hidden gems' - 80% of which I've never seen myself and I'm from there. Eventually they were in Greece and then Turkey... But while they were in Serbia I thought they'll never leave! It was about 2 yrs ago.
Not he is the one , so many tourists are on you tube recording themselves they're in Serbia. You just don't know. How many are not in you tube and visiting Serbia
Our neighbors are crazy ,in good way i mean , hard party people, like us , but i think all Balkan countries are like this , they party like there is no tomorrow! it's something contagious , a "Balkan DNA"
Its fermented cabbage, its only cabbage, salt, water and time. Cooked with smoked bacon and meat. It melts in your mouth, the sourness of the cabbage gives it a specific taste, similar to sarma. That is one of my favorite dishes. You can wash out some of the sourness out of the cabbage with water before preparing the dish. I like it more sour. We also have pickled cabbage its called turšija, mix of pickled cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, peppers, green tomatoes. Also we have fresh cabbage with oil and vinegar, it is usually served with roasted pig (pečenje) and grilled meat (pljeskavica, ćevapi...). Serbs actually eat a lot of cabbage.
Good job on exploring Serbia, you did it better than I did for my whole life living here. You also felt how real Serbian parties look like in Guča and Drina regata which are held without some bigger modernizations and influence of the west. You could really feel what real Serbs are and you could only get it in smaller places with such a traditional program. You will not be able to get something like that in bigger cities.. Good job
There's a traditional Romanian song, played even at weddings, it's called sarba. Wait, that means "the Serbian [song]" :) This is the flavour of this whole region, the melting pot and, hopefully, the friendship between people dancing and listening to music and having fun with a beer!
A few years ago I watched animated japanese movie by Ghibli called ''Only yesterday'' and when I heard the music I just knew that it had nothing to with Japan and all to do with some Balkan country. And I was right! I heard two songs by Gheorghe Zamfir called ''Cântec de Nunta'' and ''Frunzuliță Lemn Adus''. I fell in love with them, they're so beautiful and nostalgic! Love for all our Balkan sisters and brothers!
I'm glad you are having fun here in Serbia! Guca Trumpet Festival is a pretty cool event, that's where my parents went on their honeymoon!🥂 Just a heads up, if you are still around, there's going to be an event in Leskovac called Rostiljijada or Burger Festival, so come over and have fun and eat some quality burgers!
10:18 The song is inspired by the Serbian wars in the first half of the twentieth century, and has relatively humorous content: I'm Jeremija, my last name is Krstić I'm Jeremija, my last name is Krstić My village is Toponica, my wooden two-cart I served in the old cadre of artillery My village is Toponica, my wooden two-cart I served in the old cadre of artillery I'm Jeremija, my last name is Krstić I'm Jeremija, my last name is Krstić I have a sieve and a pelvis, I have a witch doctor wife I served in the old cadre of artillery I have a sieve and a pelvis, I have a witch doctor wife I served in the old cadre of artillery I'm Jeremija, my last name is Krstić I'm Jeremija, my last name is Krstić I have a field and a meadow, a mill and a rolling mill I served in the old cadre of artillery I have a field and a meadow, a mill and a rolling mill I served in the old cadre of artillery I'm Jeremija, my last name is Krstić I'm Jeremija, my last name is Krstić More of the priory house, across the widow's fence I served in the old cadre of artillery More of the priory house, across the widow's fence I served in the old cadre of artillery...
Serbia looks great ! This festival reminds me the "marchinhas carnaval" here in Brazil. I hope some time in my life I could visit Serbia and go to some of this festivals. The person looks very friendly !
11:29 Are you sure? There wasn't enough to hear it but I thought it was a Serbian piece. lol I noticed some English or French songs copied Serbian tunes
Svadbarski kupus is a type of serbian long food. Its fermented cabbage with smoked bacon and fatty meat with bones like ribs, cooked with spices at low temperature for a very long time (more than 5 hours). Its called wedding cabbage because its obligatory dish at all traditional Serbian weddings that are organized in autumn when is the fermented cabbage season. Cheers
Great to see you enjoying our beautiful country of Serbia! You just HAVE to, it is a MUST to also visit Rostiljijada in Leskovac/Grill Festival in Leskovac (Mon, Aug 21, 2023 - Sun, Aug 27, 2023)
I enjoyed in every of your videos from Serbia. Thank you for showing us many places and people, but most importantly it's good to see that you enjoyed and had fun all these days. 🤜🤛😊
It´s so nice you guys are having fun . Remember it always on the harsh times that are inevitable . 6 stars for Ivana singing Eurythmics . I think youwere not even born when this music was all around . 😘
LOL Ivana thought the song the band was playing was Eurythmics -- but I think not? Still undecided lol. Anyway great song and yes I think that was before we were born
at 3:25 there is probably a foreign band, because sometimes there are bands that are not from Serbia. These are usually musicians from Western Europe who love the trumpet and it is an honor for them to come to Guca and play
I see a lot of people wearing hat that similar to garrison cap. In my country, only our military and the Boy Scout have garrison cap as part of their uniforms. After googling, it is Šajkača. It's a Serbian national cap. I've learned something new today.
This was one of the biggest surprises with those "Trumpeters" at Gucha Festival parading down the main street during the competition. Growing up in Serbian province of Voyvodians I've seen'en and heard'em on various media, however, seeing them in person is 1,000 X better - and I'm not exaggerating. In those days I was into Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Doors, Rolling Stones, Uriah Heep, etc etc - but those "Trumpeters" blew me away I swear to God! There is no way of describing the experience - you just need to see'em in person! And the FOOD was OMG!!!
love your videos, keep the good work... next week is a Rostiljijada festival in Leskovac (about 40km south of Nis) and it last entire week - monday to sunday...so you are welcome to join...by the way,Leskovac is craddle of BBQ,pljeskavica and cevapi, and every year making huge guinnes record pljeskavica
What a fantastic surprise to see our band caught on tape at 3:22! Glad you liked our (not so typically local) performance, the festival was a blast. We were as thrilled as you were to travel all this way to discover Serbian parties, food and the live music. Cheers from France!
@5:20 - Training bro, training 😁Some can sip a bottle of rakija a day and still be fine and not looking or behaving drunk. Have you seen the size of those people! @11:55 - Fun fact: Back in Titio's communist Yugoslavia, you'd be arrested for singing, playing or even listening to this song (Jeremija/Jeremiah), as it mentions Serbian kingdom's army feats and song says "I am I, Jeremija, my last name is Krstic", where Krstic is Serbian common last name with cross in it (literally Cross-ich, of cross). Too Serbian and religious for those times, you'd be a hard core nationalist playing or enjoying that song, but somehow everyone knew it :) Ty for another great video from Serbia, and I hope you'll have more fun in a place not preoccupied by world's problems that much.
Thanks for watching our videos are your thoughtful comment :) As per the last line of your comment-- So much of the world's problems seem to be decided by so few. But our channel is a reflection of us-- and we're in search of good vibes! The people we've met in Serbia, the experiences we've had, and the memories we've made have been nothing but positive. We leave all that political talk for other channels
Hey, thanks for this! There's a lot of skills to try and improve in vlogging-- storytelling, photography, concept creation, editing, and more. We are trying to steadily improve at all of them... so it's nice when someone comments something like this ☺️. Thanks again
I always thought mexican and balkan culture had lots of similarities. We both have a revolutionary past, are very family oriented, are fairly religious but at the same time not that religious in practice, like brass bands, have our own alcohol that we make and drink and like to party..
No, more like Hindu feasts in India without the roasted 🍖 and adorned divinities😆 But the gigantic sculptures are there 😂. I think it’s actually the biggest Balkan Roma festival with some other traditional Serb music. But, to be fair gypsy music is fully integrated into Serbian culture and tradition. While the gypsy music in Spain has its origins in Arabic music, the Serbian and Romanian sounds like it hails from Asia and Eastern Europe. It’s different.
Some 20 years ago, I was working for company that had businesses relations with some South Korean engineering company and we had a delegation from Korea to come and help us with some industrial equipment that they sell to us. When they came to Serbia we take them to eat sarma and svadbarski kupus ( wedding cabbage ) and they honestly ask us are we stole those dishes from them, cause it reminded them on Saam and kimchi cabbage. We didn’t know what they are talking about, cause in those days we didn’t know much about Korean culture, customs or cuisine, but it was interesting to us to hear that there is something similar in another part of world. BTW wedding cabbage is recipe to not over drink with Rakia, cause if alcohol start kicking too hard while partying, take a stop, eat some cabbage and meat and soon you are ready to party more 😉
we actually eat a lot of cabbage 😂 fermented cabbage dishes: podvarak, sarma, wedding cabbage. we use a variety of meats in those recipes. with the grill we prepare grated cabbage with vinegar. in winter, we put cabbage, turnips, green tomatoes, peppers and cauliflower in a barrel, with vinegar. separately ferment the barrel with cabbage
i also dont like to much sour cabage sometimes it is a little more acidic, and sometimes when they leave it in plain water to overnight, that is. it takes a little longer for the acidity to be extra tasty, so I think you've come across a slightly sour cabbage, but every one is good, enjoy and greetings
When i moved out of Serbia i realized people around the world, especially west dont know how to drink alcohol. Its like watching little babies learn to walk, literally. You must eat strong food to be able to handle big amounts of alcohol, also who told you you have to drink your rakia shot all at once ? Thats not our Serbian tradition, you drink it slow, taste it, smell it...get used to it and then finally you can enjoy, its similar to learning to swim and once you stop being afraid of the water you float effortless. Also people help those few that get drunk or need help, even strangers not just friends.
I'm glad that you guys had so much fun and by the way you party you are already half Serbians 😅 For the debate on cabbage it is actually fermented she was right and you were right on eating it with bread as it's taste is too strong to be consumed on its own.
One important thing is that in Serbia we eat bread with everything. One little secret about wedding cabbage and a couple of other dishes, that when you cook them in huge pots it is much tastier than in smaller pots.
