An interview with a Serbian Sniper named Dejan who is fighting for the Donetsk Peoples Republic. He fought in Kyiv then on the Kharkiv front near Izyum. The point of this video is to have better communication. Censorship is never the answer. It's diffiuclt to hear the other sides point of view. This is not platforming Russian propoganda it's an attempt to prevent censorship that leds to even more misunderstandings.

The point of this video was to better understand a soldier fighting for the Russian side. We do not condone or agree with what Dejan said. More communication is always better than total and censorship which leads to even more misunderstanding.

It seems that a translator is the third part in this conversation. He was telling his own story, ignoring what the two others actually told, omitted important parts, changed key meaning and substance, deliberately made up things that were never told, all the time putting particularly irritating and unnecessary phrases like 'to be honest with you', Dejan's never ever said. I believe he did his best but it's a shame for such an interview.

Translation was not good at all. A lot of important things that Dejan said were not even translated. It sounds as a classic American thing not even to try to pronounce correctly the name of person you are interviewing 3 hours (in Serbian it's written Dejan, you should hear him presenting him self as Deyan). This fact talks a lot about Chris. Also Chris, you could be so professional and check confirmed sniper shot range before saying to guy that was 15 years on the front that he is lying. After this way of ending 3 hour interview, don't expect again some important soldier from Russian side to be part of your vlog. P.S. arranging duels is standard Slavic thing, still now... even in war... I don't expect you to understand that, as most of things that Deyan said.

But the the Russian state as such didn’t do to much. And they supplied Croatia with arms as an example. But to be fair, at that time Russia had a lot of own issues. Nevertheless Ukraine is the best example of how foreign aid is deadly to any country. So I’m rather happy Russia didn’t aid Serbia more. 2:59:14 Your idea, to talk about the soldier experience is a sound one, but...your setup where there is two of you, where he clearly expected one interlocutor surely did get his guard up, you didn't even introduce your self, he had to ask. That aside, the main difference is that he was raised by two grandfathers who were both in WW2 fighting for home, later on he fought in a civil war, than later on he fought for his home...and later one he went to repay his debt to the Russians. He is molded by those events, events that happened at his home and it's personal to him. While on the other side you have two Americans who just went to another continent to kill and earn money, you didn't go to Iraq or Afghanistan to defend your home, your home was thousands of miles away. I mean by that logic the Germans when to Africa to defend their fatherland. I follow Task and Purpose and like your content, watch is regularly, but there's a reason you halted your military carrier in order to pursue your movie maker/YT carrier, a much more noble cause. Dejan feels like he had to go to war, like he was defending his home (up until he got called to repay his debt, not sure how he rationalizes that, might be the same as any NATO soldier that went to Iraq/Afghan). Bottom line...all of that is personal to him, while you two are bystanders. If you interviewed an Ukranian soldier...the whole topic would be personal for him as well since they are not far removed from the conflict.

A lot of things got missed out during translation which was atrocious. But more importantly you seem like dead set on misinterpreting what you hear, either out of bias that he's unreliable narrator from the get go, or from sheer ignorance. For example 1600m is certainly a long shot, but nothing out of realm of an experienced sniper with a good rifle. Or that the 90 Ukrainian tanks were captures around Kiev, when he explicitly said it was back in 2015. in the aftermath of battle of Debaltsevo pocket. And I won't even go into realities of war in Ukraine because if you cannot understand "why would Ukrainians snipers shoot into civilians in Donbass", you really don't know anything about the conflict at all. Mind you Dejan (pronounced as Deyan) is a officer, not a random foot solider so he has a bit better optics then you guys did in your tours, but obviously he wasn't willing to answer all of your questions in a way you might find satisfactory, just like US officer wouldn't divulge some of that info to a Russian interviewer.
@CirKhan
@CirKhan Год назад
Also, Dejan was in fact captured back in 2014. and tortured by SBU, but since he was unarmed at the time and in civilian dress they weren't positively sure if he's actually a combatant or not, so they couldn't make a big deal out of it. In the end Russians collected a money and bought he's, and a few other prisoners freedom from SBU.

Which I didn't like, because I thought the whole program was about hearing the story of a soldier. Shortly after, you and your friend called him a liar. I don't have a military background or anything like that, but in the movie A sniper's war, Deki uses Orsi's T-5000. According to the information I have found online. It is a very powerful weapon. It was ok interview but, some things were either completely missed or lost some meaning in translation. It really doesn't make difference though. To me, it really shows how Americans fundamentally don't understand both mentality and situation in the East-SE Europe but, also how people over there look down on Americans and really can't care less what Americans think.

Here’s the reality. Russia, through the FSB, have subverted Ukrainian politics through quite some time and many Ukrainians are resentful about that. They feel not much has changed since the breakup of the Soviet Union up until 2014. This resentment and desire to be unshackled from Russia’s orbit is what motivates the Ukrainians. On the Russian side, Ukraine, especially eastern Ukraine has always played an important historical role in Russia’s history. Dostoyevsky was born in eastern Ukraine. Many of the casualties suffered during ww2 were in Ukraine. Additionally, many ethnic Russians, again, especially in the east, still live in Ukraine and have sympathies with Russia. Many Russians view the 2014 revolution as something largely propped up by US/western Intel agencies. They view the current gov as illegitimate. Zelensky originally ran as the “peace” candidate, but he allowed himself to be pushed around by the ultranationalists like Azov. When people say the Ukraine gov is run by “Nazis”…. They don’t mean everyone involved in the Ukrainian gov is a Nazi. They mean these paramilitary groups like right sector/Azov/etc have a disproportionate amount of influence within the central gov and through shear force and intimidation often are able to shape gov policy to their liking. For example, the recent push to suppress Russian language media outlets (much of which are apolitical). I know, given the media bubble that exists in the west, it’s hard to believe there are Ukrainians that are ethnic Russians who have sympathies with Russia, but I would implore you to read amnesty international’s report on Azov and their activities towards ethnic Russians in Ukraine. Look up the Odessa massacre. I’m not saying Russia is right, but it certainly is more complicated that you’re making it out to be.
