That is very clever, props to you two. The program works and either something on screen, or an assistant secretly communicates Penn's card. The second card is where it gets nice and clever, the card order has been logged already and it remains unshuffled from that point, a weight on the table determines how many cards are picked up and subsequently the next card in order which is the card that's picked up, and again, either something on the screen changes, an assistant, or both communicate Alyson's card to the Dad who showed it to his daughter on that piece of paper at the end.

You totally got me on how you knew Allison's card.

Love how technology caught up and has become affordable... if you have a lot of free time. Really lovely effect. Great execution. The vibe though. Seren is absolutely adorable. Did she get to have that milkshake?

I couldn't help but keep thinking throughout the video that I didn't know that Zach Gilford could do magic as well as acting! Nathan, I think you look sooooo similar! But that aside, that was a very fascinating trick, a great performance and very cool and wholesome to see how a father and daughter share this passion for magic! As a teenager (and now as an adult :D) I would never have had the confidence to do something like that on stage (let alone on TV) :O Very impressive!

That was a great trick, and I really like the family aspect. To answer your question, the trick was done with teenage intuition! Seren gave that part away. But, I don't understand teenagers and their language. So, what ever that means - but that's the answer! 😀

I was distracted by Seren, she's so cute and adoreable ^.^ didn't even notice how it was done, but from what Penn said i think what was said about the trick, was mostly true, just in a more sneaky way. i like mixing science and illusions in general, that's what i call true magic (magic as in word we use to describe science we don't yet understand).

I believe this is an incredibly easy trick. The computer registered the deck figuring out Penn's card. After that, when Allison cuts the deck the position is calculated and compared to the order registered by the computer. After that code words or another assistant relays the card through an ear piece

Aside from finding Penn's card, I'm not very sure that I've figured out the rest of the trick; I do have a potential solution that would be quite technical indeed, but it wouldn't take very long and I kinda figured that the 45s Seren was spending "fangirling" was probably meant for stalling and not just for the laughs. Nevermind I watched the Audition video, nothing makes sense now, unless you were just mimicking the working version

I think I've figured this one out. They can find Penn's card because the card finder software works - easy. The tricky part was knowing Alyson's card. It's stands to reason that if the card finder software genuinely works, then 'teenage intuition' also works. It's not science, it's magic.

Believe you were rewatching the recording of the cards while pretending to fix whatever and actually looking for the missing card. Well this is maybe part of it but even if that is correct there is more going on than I can figure out.

Challenge accepted!! (about finding out the method). Penn's card is quite easy, the app, as it has been said does actually work so it reads all the cards that are still on Penn's hands it only has to check which card is missing and you have Penn's selected card. (I'm actually surprised to know it took Nathan like about 4 months to code that app, I mean, a simple image recognition AI is almost already done for you to work with, it should take way less than that to have a functional app) About Alyson's card there are a couple of options... they could have been using a cutted deck (also known as Svengali) so that it doesn't matter where Alyson cuts, it would always be a 12 of hearts or they could also be using a deck that consists only on all the cards being 12 of hearts but Penn may notice that when he is handling the deck, so I would bet on the Svengali Deck. When Seren goes back towards her dad, she picks Penn's card which Nathan has written on that piece of paper (another method could be to have it somehow written on the body of the marker that she picks from Nathan so Alyson can sign her souvenir card), at this point the trick is done. Nathan has to just write the card that has been forced on Alyson and Seren has to name outloud the card that the app signaled as Penn's selected card.

Why does Alison only have one outfit in her wardrobe? And why is the show’s wardrobe department or stylist so boring/absent/negligent?

I wonder if they scanned the deck a second time while the cards were in the air after Alyson threw it away.

Great trick. Great use of software and technology. ...and by that I mean fooling the viewer into thinking this is in front of a live audience. Yeah... there's nobody there. Seats are empty. which is why there's a scene behind Penn and Teller. A few audience tracks are used and voila... totally fooled.

The video cam and AI really could have eliminated all the wrong answers that quick from a stash of 52 seed images. You probably didn't as that would be a very expensive processor. She got the answer off your note pad when she came over to you. You got Allison's and Penn's cards from RFID signal strength ( thus the reason they were pre-shuffled. No bending). Instead of throwing them away you could have chopped them in half with a big paper cutter or a shredder to kill the signals of the wrong RFIDS since the good cards were safe in their pockets. I'm either real close or nowhere near the ballpark. In either case I really enjoyed your act. You were both very entertaining. Keep going.

I’m gonna be brutally honest. Out of all the Penn&Teller guests I’ve watched perform, I enjoyed this one the least.. Wasn’t impressed at any point, and found the overall performance to be quite amateur and forgettable. Definitely lots of room for improvement! But I think your efforts are admirable, and as long as you had fun that’s what matters!

the real question is: Did Alyson really take Seren up on her invitation to milkshakes?

The software did not fail. It did figure out which card was missing from the deck hence the “we did it for real”. When the “error” occurs and a bunch of cards are displayed the first and last cards are significant. Everything else on the display is distraction. The suit in the first card matches the missing card. Add the value of the first and last card to get the value of the missing card. An ace on the screen would likely always indicate a 1 so that every card in the deck can be represented by two cards on the screen. In this case the 4 of spades was the first card which establishes that Penn’s card is a spade. The last card is a three of clubs. Ignore the suit and add 3 to 4 to get 7 so Penn’s card is the 7 of spades. Not so sure how he got Allison’s card.

A lot of fun! And, as always, Penn's ability to let the potential fooler/s know they've been found out, without giving anything away to the likes of me, is exemplary! (You fooled me!)

I'm 29, and if I was on a stage like that, I would crumble into dust. Many props to Seren for performing so well. What a wholesome trick. You fooled me even if I caught a bit of Penn's double-talk. Fantastic job.

Great performance. Nice to see how well Seren held her own on stage... not easy to have that confidence for a teenager to do so in this situation. That level of confidence speaks of a very bright future... whether in magic or doing something else. Impressive.

I can’t tell if Penn’s clues confirm or deny it, but my suspicion is that someone is extraordinarily observant, and both of you communicate like only a father and daughter can. ❤

Great trick & performance. Whether fooling the pros or not, it looked like you both enjoyed your time and it looked seamless. The fact that you made it on tape, should give you confidence that you are in the elite group of magicians now, congratulations. Keep pushing forward.

Very cool, it would have totally fooled me had Penn not tipped the method in his fantastic double speak... how he worked that out just shows you the massive weight of his and tellers magic knowledge. amazing and very fooling effect. WELL DONE.

The first part, knowing Penn's card, is obvious. But I can't figure out how they knew Alison's card.

I think part of it is fairly straight forward. You made a piece of software that literally does exactly what you says it does, and then that "random array of cards" that show up on the screen that are incorrect basically tell you the card. The first card displays the suit and the sixth card displays the number. The second half is a bit more of a reach because I'm thinking there's really only one way I know how to do something like that. BUT for that one way to happen, there would have to have been some editing of the footage by the producers that would have eliminated any moment where the two decks could have been exchanged.

I really enjoyed the trick! Ignore all the haters... You had me completely stumped at how you found Alyson's card. Though, after reading some of the other comments, I've weighed my options a couple of times and think I understand how it was done. I'm amazed at how quickly Penn and Teller could work it out though!

Well, I don't know how you did the Allison part of your card trick at all, it was fascinating! And your bit had me laughing many times! I love it! Super cool magic duo!

Nice trick. Don't mind the detractors; I think the act was was adorable and entertaining. As for how you did it, while I'm pretty sure I know how you found Penn's card, I'm less certain as to how you found Allison's card. Most folks are guessing hidden camera, but I'm thinking it has more to do with Newtons of down force. But I'm not sure how much weight there is to my speculations.

What a fun presentation, and I love the family aspect of it! Nice also to see another young woman in the magic-verse! We need more of 'em! And it's always sad to see a magic act not fool P&T, because Penn's "I don't think you fooled us" kinda drops an Eeyore cloud on a magician's performance, but Seren's chipper "I don't really care, I got to meet Allison!" recovery was so pleasant and smooth that it turned a negative into a positive, and it was so graceful and I loved that recovery so much! Nice work to you all!
