2012-2015 Serena was playing for legacy GOAT status and looked the part as well.

She was the best for 5 months in July to November. But two slam losses against Makarova and Razzano were two embarrassing stains. Not a great year for someone who still wants to be in the GOAT discussion.

@7:56, the announcer said that Serena will win 1 or 3 more grandslam, but they were wrong because Serena won 10 more grandslams. She is really phenomenal.

He was talking about that year only. I remember seeing that match and the commentator said something about Serena being in imperious form and that at the level she was playing, she would definitely add one more slam to her tally of 13 or possibly 3 (since there were three slams left to go) more *by the end of the year* (that part got cut out, I just noticed). And she did add two more so he wasn’t quite wrong that way 😅

Yep... But you remember she was out for a while, then she and Venus seemed to be focusing on a life outside if tennis. They took a lot of flack when they seemed to slow with tennis for a short while. Many tennis pro's said she would never win another major, and then she made a comeback.

In the 2012 Olympics Serena played agaisnt Jankovic Zvonareva Wozniacki Azarenka Sharapova( All of them former number 1 and 2 for Zvonareva) AND Urzula Radwanska, whats funny is that Urzula did better than all the rest with a 6/2 6/3 loss🤣🤣

This would have been a pretty disappointing year for someone like Steffi Graf. Just look at her 1987, 1988, 1989, 1993, 1995 or 1996. Now THAT’S domination.

@@PravoslavniVitez given that Serena had just returned the previous summer from a life threatening injury against people who all thought she was done and wrote her off... Steffi didn’t have to go through that...

@@Davey0303 Steffi had a total of 7 surgeries between 1996 and 1999 and her body was barely held together by tape, glue and painkillers so I don’t understand your point? Everyone goes through injuries in tennis. 2012 was a good year, but there were so many better ones- Henin’s 2003, 2006 and 2007, Hingis 1997, Seles 1991 and 1992, Steffi’s 1987-1990 and 1993-1996, not to mention so many of Evert and Navratilova’a seasons.

Serena during the first half of 2012 and Serena during the second half of 2012 were two COMPLETELY different players. That French Open loss seriously changed her for the better carrying on into 2013 until 2017. Of course she had the odd loss here and there during that timespan but she was mainly dominant and almost unbeatable having many long win streaks 💪👸🎾

She made sure to win it the following year and again in 2015. If Serena manages a fourth she'll match Graff with minimum four wins per GS (for a base of 16).

@@got2bjosh Well, if we look at it from a different point of view, Serena Williams is the only player, male or female, to win 3 different grandslams 6 times i.e. Wimbledon, AO and USO, Graf didn't do that. Matching graf's record like a copycat was never Serena's goal lol, she has more slams, having "FoUr SlAmS iN dIfFeReNt GrAnDsLaMs " doesn't make her the best.
