Very helpful SA tip! I don't have a lot of confidence in judging it but watching what I'm cutting off is a great tip! Thank you 💕

Thanks Gail. This second video is helpful. As a quilter, it’s puzzling to not be able to set the edge of my fabric on a set mark - the edge of the presser foot or a line on the throat plate. I think it’s the main reason I still struggle with my serger. BUT! Your videos are very helpful to me. Thanks again. Will we see you in Raleigh anytime soon?

Hi Lynn, It's scheduled at BERNINA World of Sewing March 15, 16, 17. Check with the store to be sure of location. I don't want to steer you wrong! Thanks for asking and I'll look forward to seeing you! It will be warmer in NC than CT! xo, Gail@@lynnleipold2617

Hi, what serger do you own? Most brands do have a foot with ridges. Thanks!

@@GailPatriceDesign Singer Pro Finish I forget the actual model number and I am watching in bed so I don’t want to get up plus I have a cat in my lap so I definitely am not allowed to get out of bed right now. I could go onto that website called sewing parts online and see what they might have for this particular Serger.

Hi - I also do not have that many indicators but only two - it is a Babylock.

@@marlenede-abel1336 hi Marlene, if your serger is overlock only, you will have 2 indicator ridges. Five ridges are for overlock/ Coverstitch combo machines. Thanks!

This makes so much sense... but why would I ever adjust the knife distance/width then?
@GailPatriceDesign
@GailPatriceDesign 5 месяцев назад
That's a great question. My BERNINA L890 has a maximum overlock stitch width of 9mm (with the left needle inserted) and the knife and stitch finger positions adjust simultaneously with the same dial. If for instance, a pattern has 1/4" seam allowances, and you want to use a 4-thread overlock stitch for strength, 9mm would exceed that. But by moving the stitch finger and knife closer to the needles, thus narrowing the stitch, I can still have the strength of a 4-thread overlock stitch but it's narrower. The integrity and strength of the stitch isn't compromised, just narrower. Hope that clarifies why and how you might want to move the knife and stitch finger. Let me know if you have more questions and thanks for watching!

@@GailPatriceDesign I follow! This makes more sense now. I looked at my serger (Juki MO-3000 ) and i see the stitch finger moving, the manual also says it can adjust the stitch width. Had no clue THAT was how its done. So, I can just put the blade all the way in to make as narrow of a overlock as possible, or all the way out for a bit wider. Looks like for every day use I do not really need to focus on it (especially with 3/8 or 1/4" SA, but it will be handy should I start working with some other fabrics and seam types. Thanks again!

@@WeBuild4Life That’s the fantastic thing about understanding your serger components and how they affect the stitch. You can customize according to a pattern and/or your preference. Congratulations!
