Pleasant listening. Ponti made a number of recordings of music by lesser known composers. Those that I've heard are equally well performed. A very capable pianist.
C'est le mérite de M Ponti d'avoir fait découvrir ce type d'oeuvre à nos oreilles. Ce n'est peut-être pas de la musique "essentielle" mais elle est néanmoins agréable à écouter. Et c'est justement un pianiste qui avait le don de présenter ces oeuvres sans chichis et en jouant "droit", sans céder à une lourdeur postromantique dans laquelle beaucoup trop d'interprètes de notre temps tombent facilement.
Michael Ponti est une véritable encyclopédie, sans lui, tous ces concertos composés par Moszkowski, Lyapunov, Rubinstein , Thalberg ou même la #2 de Tchaiko me seraient inconnus. Je suis devenu un adorateur de ces compositions oubliées et quel bonheur qu’un interprète comme Ponti puisse prendre le relais, depuis l’AVC de ce dernier...
Beautiful piece by Lyapunov. But once again, the tremendous influence of Franz Liszt is to be heard, yet sadly too many either never realize it or begrudgingly refuse to admit it.
This is more in the vein of pre-Rachmaninov Russian romanticism, before the Boshevik Revolution, sounding more like Balakirev or Glasunov, etc. They were also trying to pay homage to Lizst, the spark behind that movement. They also all have a faint Oriental touch that was common at that time. Rachmaninov ushered in a totally different style, both melancholic, complex and to me, more appealing. I see the similarity to the Rach 3rd at about the 10:30 mark. In fact, it does sound briefly exactly like it. But, beyond that, I see no similarity whatsoever.
Vladmir Hoopnagle, interesting view, but there is nothing "Oriental" in this piece, especialy to those, who are well acquinted with Ukrainian folk music. Just folk music themes and composer's imagination and style.
Je voudrais faire ici de l'acte d'écriture un art de la reprise, une lutte acharnée, un combat interminable contre toutes les forces négatives de commentaires écrits déposés ici comme des étrons aussi fastidieux que méphitiques et dont la vocation première serait de consolider des châteaux de rêves verbeux qui ne renvoient pas au néant absolu !! J'aimerais que l'écriture retrouve son pouvoir salvateur et ne pas se cantonner aux "Amazing!" et encore "I love this" «c’est magnifique» sans parler des "Beautiful" et autres "Thanks for sharing" qui me font dresser les cheveux sur la tête !! J'aimerai que l'écriture écrase les dernières incertitudes dans le cendrier de la confiance ranimée des amoureux des mots, mais hélas, rien n'est moins sûr..... Le pouvoir d'évocation de cette musique m'inspire cela au plus profond !

J'aimerais que ce "brillant écrivain fasse preuve d'un peu plus de modestie et de tolérance envers les autres,quelle prétention dans ce discours qui n'apporte rien!
Very NICE piece of music, but totally unknown to me. I've been in love with classical music for about 65 years too. BUT it just doesn't have that "greatness" of so many of the classical masters!! NO real MELODY one can sing or hum or whistle!!! BUT that painting shown is a "masterful" work of art (WHO?)! How can a FLAT piece of canvas show so much wonderful DEPTH??? Whoever the guy was who painted it was truly a "great master painter" in my book!!! "Gesundheit"!
Beats the hell out of rap, hiphop etc. And it took more talent and creativity not to mention depth of than any critic, professionsl or knowitall armchair could even remotely amass. Lovely music to distract me from the weary daytodaycrap that the media news and self appointed experts spew as truth.
*What do you think about the lyrics? And where is the Ukrainian theme? At least one? Traditionally Russian tunes are heard. Ukrainian-ZERO! And imitation of Pyotr Tchaikovsky takes place. But the music is beautiful!*
LOL! It's sounds little bit like Tchaikovsky because Tchaikovsky widely used Ukrainian themes too (just take a look at first piano concerto first and third parts - they are used Ukrainian themes)))
