This is every single Sergio Leone film, ranked from worst to best.
Sergio Leone is one of the greatest and most influential directors in film history, which is saying a lot considering he’s only made 7 films in his entire career. But when you’re a true great like Leone, you don’t need any more than that to cement your legacy.

They say Leone was in the beginning stages of working on an epic about Stalingrad before he suddenly passed away. Can only dream what the maestro would have done with the story of an epic WW2 battle.

@@romagrafici1118 Thanks for the clarification. I'll assume an Italian knows the details better than I do, as I am only recalling what I read many years ago, and certainly could have gotten the two mixed up. I had read about it and Giuseppe Tornatore wanted to pursue the project. I could of actually imagined it happening seeing how I love Tornatore's films and cinematic approach to his films. However with Maestro Ennio Morricone gone ..who would of scored the film. That remains the question.

Duck You Sucker #1. I’ve always loved the longest version without knowing anyone else rated it - then Glenn Erickson’s and Sir Christopher Frayling’s knowledge and erudition later helped me see how this is, despite the comedy, Leone’s first ‘serious’ film and brutally effective in communicating his personal politics. And then, once you entertain the fullest potential meaning of the flashbacks, the film becomes something else entirely. A John Ford level masterpiece.

3. A fistful of dollars (a good start for the beginning of the spaghetti western era. But the production values weren’t that great since the film was made on a low budget.) 2. Well The Good The Bad The Ugly is one of the best movies ever made. Period. It's not like there weren't so many incredible movies but this was... Even Sergio Leone couldn't do better than that.

I only saw Duck, You Sucker for the first time 2 weeks ago... it is amazing, and I am amazed that I have never really heard of it before, certainly never any buzz about it. There are a few good versions of it on RU-vid, that's how I watched it on my TV.
@TheMusterion76

Duck you sucker is overlooked because of its vision of politik and revolution: too personal, disillusioned and anti-romantic for a generalist audience. In Italy leftist critics destroyed the movie for this reason but the italian audience (and I'm one of them) have alwayes loved it at the same level of the other Leone's movies.

western classification: 1. Leone's westerns 2. other westerns the good, the bad and the ugly, I agree with everything you said, I stopped counting how many times I've watched it, even though the movie lasts almost three hours, when it's over you wonder "is it over yet?"

I'm baffled by what reckoning you find the first spaghetti western better than the second! I think the second is the best of the three - it's more personal, more psychologically complex, more intimate, more mysterious - and it has the best music!

#1 The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly #2 For a Few Dollars More #3 Once Upon a Time in America #4 Once Upon a Time in the West #5 Duck, You Sucker! #6 A Fistful of Dollars #7 The Colossus of Rhodes I can also see a more mature list where "For a Few Dollars More" is at #4, while "il West" and "America" are #2 and #3, respectively.

Hi dude, great Job doing this review. I agree with you, my list doesn't look very different than yours. I want to mention that Leone did some more (comedian) movies made in Italy that are masterpieces as well. I suggest you to watch "un sacco bello" or "Bianco Rosso e verdone" for instance, but they are in Italian language only (maybe). I don't know if there are subtitle... For me as an Italian guy I can tell, those films are just one of the bests comedy movies from Italy made in Italy :) peace and love. Oh from the Western Movies I like the most where Clint Eastwood is in there ;)

Once upon a time in America to me is quite comfortably 1st, it covers everything a film could possibly cover while being artistically beautiful and with one of the greatest scores in movie history. Best film I’ve ever seen.

I am flabbergasted every time I hear someone say that they prefer "Once Upon a Time in the West" over the greatest western ever made, "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly". NO COMPARISON! Lee van Cleef is the archetypical bad man; Clint is at the zenith of his portrayal of the man with no name; and Eli Wallach plays his greatest role ever with panache, humor, viciousness but generates just enough empathy to avoid becoming a caricature. The cinematography is astounding and the musical score far superior. Simply the BEST!

You will be pleased to know that the skeleton in the tomb at the end of the film belongs to a Spanish actress who before dying asked to be able to use her body and enter Sergio Leone's film, immortalizing her... I would say that in this film there are many things therefore, even the love of an actress who took her artistic profession seriously.

I have never even heard of #7, but I'm sure that's not surprising to you. As for #5, I have heard of it, but never saw it. But I agree with your descriptions and opinions on all the others. Absolutely spot on. I have special edition DVDs of both "Once Upon a Time" movies, and of the "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly". It was interesting to find out that there were lost scenes that were added back in for that DVD. On a different note, I love the miniseries "Moses the Lawgiver", which has a musical score by Morricone. It's brilliant as always.

I agree. It is my favorite movie of all time too!!!! I think that the music in this movie is the best music I have ever heard in a western....especially at the end (trio music). The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly music I Absolutely Love, and I think the Great Danish National Orchestra did an EXCELLENT job of creating it. People should watch the RU-vid video of this. It literally will bring you to tears!

Last Days of Pompeii should be included... Mario Bonnard began directing it, but became sick and died after just 3 days, subsequently assistant director Leone took over as director with fellow future spaghetti director Sergio Corbucci assisting... Also Fistful of Dollars is not the beginning of the spaghetti western genre... Corbucci had already directed two westerns beforehand

Sir : While I do respect your opinions , I offer a counter point of view, because I'm 76 y/o------- As I lover of cinema all my life, here I go : 1st MY Top 5 Westerns , all-time. . #5 : " Duel At Diablo " This one is free here on YT. From '66, it is an absolute classic. -----4. " Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid " From '73, James Coburn's very finest role, & Kris Kristofferson makes a great film debut. A Sam Peckinpah Classic. ------3. " For A Few Dollars More " Hands-down, my favorite By Sergio Leone ; not even a contest.----------2. " The Outlaw Josey Wales" No Doubt , Eastwood's finest moment in front of the camera, & behind the camera. Brilliant in every way. ----------MY #1, All-Time ?? From '69, Sam Peckinpah's Masterpiece, " The Wild Bunch " What is there to be said that's not been said, 10K times ? I saw it when it 1st came out in Denver, at the old Paramount Theater ; sat through it 3 times. And, I understood this film completely, the very 1st time I saw it. A man's film . Made by men, about men, for men. Women do not understand , nor are they meant to. ---------MJL
