Karen Phillips ... WOW! She was my favorite even though she wasn't the lead singer. Just something in the way she moved, her voice ever bit as professional as any ever. The time and place were exotic and so was she. I love Brazil 66, but the reason I do is Karen Phillips.
+Cliff Eck Sorry, but that is NOT Karen Phillips. That is Janis Hansen. She was with Sergio's group before Karen joined. Then Sergio "cleaned house" and the only person left from the group you see here was Lani Hall. The "cleaned house" group members then went on to form their own group called "The Carnival".
+Albert Broussard Almost 100% correct. Only the percussionist Jose Soares and the vocalist Janis Hansen from the "cleaned house" group went on to form the "Carnival" group who recorded just one album and had a very short life. And later on Janis Hansen recorded together with another group about 3 Promotional LPs for Ford Motors called "The Going Thing".
I have the CD of the only LP released by The Carnival and in the liner notes Janis tells the full story of what happened and why the "house cleaning" happened. Very interesting reading
+Albert Broussard Yes, Albert I have also this CD and read about the "house cleaning" history, and the supposedly unfair way Sergio treated the musicians of his group.
The drumer João Palma 's hair and your clothes in this film is like Ringo Star. João, old friend, died this year in Rio. The firsts Sergio Mendes's singers: Leni Hal and the brazilian model Bibi Vogel.
Que hermosa voz la de la señora. Lanín hall. La felicito increíble. En portugués. Y. En español. Y en inglés. Es única saludos desde. Los. Ángeles. California 😜👋💜💙💚🌷🌹
My favorite song when I was 9! Same as you, I had no idea what the words were, but I could SING it! ( & with my name, you'd think I could speak Portuguese! 🤣
That is technically correct but if you are fluent in Portuguese, you’d know that that title undermines the songs message. It better translates to, the brazilian word for, “Yeah, Right!”
In almost cases, when people sing they don't show their accents... (I watched a lot of videos where koreans dudes singing Ode to Joy and sound like a native German to me and to many natives Germans too, and another dude Thomas Hampson singing in Italian "Largo al Factotum"). I think you got the point.
Americans have an accent because English is a language very different from Latin, which composed Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese. Indeed, their accents are well disguised, but for a native's ear it is very present. But they cant do it very well.
@@asdas8887 - over the decades - i've heard foreign singers singing english lyrics with accents - more recently - their accents aren't as strong - but it can still be there in the case of korean pop (kpop) - the singers are trained by their agencies so that their english pronunciation is almost perfect - but certain sounds are too foreign for them & will cause them to slip up - no doubt koreans will work equally hard when singing a classical song in german but in the 90s and early 2000 - kpop singers had very thick accents - and were sometimes impossible to understand - same with japanese & chinese - and european - and even latin american singers - there is no such a principle as "no accents are heard when singing" - there is a principle that "training and practice will gradually reduce an accent" in fact - it would be interesting if a Brazilian could evaluate the accents heard in this song - which i suspect is from the album - Lani was american - but the other singer in the album was brazilian Bibi Vogel - so in the album - her solos should sound authentically Portuguese-Brazilian - (i haven't worked out for certain if the other girl we see in the video is Bibi's replacement Janice Hansen or Bibi herself - the girl there is pretty enuf to be Janice - - i found a photo at GettyImages of these 2 girls in a recording studio - and they weree idenfified as Janis & Lani)
Something about two beautiful, classy, 60s girls with that hair, dress, swag, and voices with no ink or metal. Oh for the day. Glad my wife more like these too at 40.
