Sergio 'Checo' Pérez has opened up about his experiences in Formula 1, highlighting the lack of friendships in the top category of motorsport. The Mexican driver, who has had a complicated first half of 2024 with Red Bull, shared his reflections in an interview with De Estreno, stressing that everything will depend on him to improve his performance in the second half of the season.
Perez explained that the competitive nature of the sport means that, although there is respect between drivers, there is no room for true friendships. "There are no friends here, we know that since go karts. When you are constantly competing, we have a lot of respect, but in the end, friends we know we are not, because everyone is looking out for their own interests," he affirmed.
In addition, Checo mentioned the dynamics of information within Formula 1 and how many times drivers are aware of what is going on behind the scenes long before the general public finds out. "When you live in this world, things come to you long before the general world. You know what's going on behind the scenes and in the end the only thing is that anything can happen in this world full of interests," he stressed.
During the summer break, Perez is focused on coming back stronger for the second half of the season, which resumes on August 25 with the Dutch Grand Prix. Despite the challenges, the Mexican remains hopeful and determined to improve his performance and compete at the highest level.
