Our courts fail children so badly. Kallinger is convicted of seriously abusing his children thanks to those children speaking up, but he gets sent back home with them after a few months in jail. What, is he expected to have learned his lesson? "Thanks for getting me put in the slammer, kids, I will definitely respect you and treat you decently now!" There has to be a better way to deal with parents who abuse their children than putting the wolf back in the henhouse.

I think this is a big reason why some mothers don't leave abusive relationships. They know if they do, they risk a very high likelihood of their children being left alone in the home without them there as protection. Too often, even in the worst cases, they give them back unsupervised visitation after classes. To them, it seems too big a risk. I can see that.
@zacknicley8150
@zacknicley8150 3 года назад
There’s a bigger, more endemic societal issue. What do you do with abused children? They can’t be whisked away to loving homes. Foster care? CPS? Put the parent in prison forever? The foster care system is a part of the larger machine itself. Prisons are a whole issue themselves. The abuser can’t or won’t be reformed just like that, the children have nowhere else to go. So many problems with no solutions just domino down the line.

This guy was very scary. I lived in the town when this happened. He was walking around many streets, knocking on doors trying to get in. I can still remember the phone call I got from my friend telling me what happened. The girl that died was a friend of her sisters. So sad. RIP Maria.

It's worse in Britain and Canada and Australia. I watch a lot of these true crime videos of British murder cases. They get absolutely ridiculous sentences... 8 years and put back on the street. @@billyboycinci clearly works tho when the USA just lock up anyone that can be a threat and still have way more murders, shootings etc than the countries with low sentences. If you watched more interviews of this guy, you would see that he is mentally unstable. Guy thought he was gonna kill millions and then kill himself to become god. Usa is way to blind on mental health so they can blame themselves for all the shootings and serial killers. Alot of these could have been prevented with a better system.

It depends on the reason that they committed murder. If they killed someone in self defense, or someone who harmed a family member, then I could see letting them out eventually, or not giving them any prison time at all (in a clear case of self defense). If someone is a serial killer or rapist, like in this video the guy was a sick, perverted POS, they should be locked up forever or executed. There is no reason to have someone like that walking around free in society.(or walking around at all anywhere really)

My uneducated hypothesis is this: If his murders were to compensate for his "manhood" being compromised, involving his son would be just another way to boost his ego. Every father I know that has a problem with his masculinity is quick to live vicariously through (what he views as) his potentially superior male progeny, by encouraging them to play full-contact sports and aggressively date females. Think about the plain, overweight dad with the handsome and athletic son...he pushes his boy to excel, because he never could. These acts are socially acceptable manifestations of frail masculinity under the guise of male bonding...so it'd make sense (in a twisted way) that this father wanted to enhance the feelings of the act by getting his son to participate in what he viewed as empowering. In this case, being a criminal.

I hate how they completely sensor those words you mention at the start. Like yes, it is traumatic for some people, but it’s a part of life and it’s an integral part of these stories. It is what it is I guess :/
@edoboleyn
@edoboleyn 3 года назад
Yeah, as a survivor, I think someone who finds the word itself traumatizing would not be consuming this kind of material, in the first place. Many with an interest in true crime are here because we were victims of sexual violence and we know what we can handle. RU-vid’s rules don’t make sense. I’m surprised they have time, when they’re so busy censoring discussions about covid.

@skarletrose1
@skarletrose1 3 года назад
@@edoboleyn As a survivor, the censoring of the word that describes what was done to me like it’s such a dirty unmentionable thing it can’t even be uttered out loud is what hurts. I lived with the dirty feeling of having to shut up about my trauma to spare others from the discomfort of having to even think about it. I had to carry it like it was a secret, even after it stopped being a secret to anyone. Rape? You can’t talk about that. Too dirty. Too pornographic. Too unmentionable for anything but the therapy couch, and then only because you pay them to listen. I honestly don’t see how putting “rape” (etc) on a “dirty words list” of yucky icky grossness along with any number of other obscenities and slurs is doing victims any favors. Talk about stigmatization! Whenever I hear that word censored I get a twinge of shame activation. Not necessarily about the rape itself (I’m past blaming myself for that), but shame that I ever wanted to or tried to talk about it in a world that apparently can’t handle the horror of the subject while simultaneously not taking it seriously as an important issue to discuss. No survivors who are still so deep in their trauma that hearing these words is deeply traumatic are going to be seeking out this kind of content, and if they do then they should probably try to work on taking control of their own media use. But censoring words like rape isn’t about shielding victims from retraumatization and it never was. It’s about shielding non-victims from the vague discomfort of “unseemliness” at the expense of victims and their ability to hear their experiences discussed openly without stigma.
@sophie4636
@sophie4636 5 месяцев назад
It's not censored for survivors - it's censored because big advertisers like Disney and Apple don't want their company's associated with those words, and the technology isn't advanced enough to ensure they don't place an advert within a video using said words. So, instead, they've pressured RU-vid into banning the words. Utterly disgraceful.

To understand the entire complex nature of this individual you should read the book "The Shoemaker" It all began with abusive adoptive parents who wanted a child they could train, "Joseph" (The father was a Shoemaker and wanted to train this boy in the trade) and then have that child take care of them in their old age. What they actually were, were ...Monsters! ...real ones!! Once you start to read that disturbing book you won't be able to put it down.

I love this documentary other than the fact that you claim kallinger was exaggerating/faking his mental illness. He was very obviously deeply schizophrenic. Quite a number of professionals have analyzed him before his death and he is a classic case of extreme unchecked schizophrenia. Dr hickey (author of Serial killers and their victims 11th edition) has him listed as a literal textbook example of someone who is truly psychotic and Dr. Joel Norris said he’s he single most mentally ill human being he’s ever interviewed in his entire career. Also the victims of one of the break ins attest that he tied them all up, stared at the wall while mumbling to himself, and then left the house. That’s psychosis. This doesn’t make him innocent in any way (particularly with his son who’s murder he profited off of) but it seems very obvious that he’s wildly insane. Hickey says he thinks that the main reason why he was found sane was because he was literally so sick that other psychiatrists thought he was playing it up because they hadn’t seen anyone that schizophrenic before. Basically he says he was so insane that the other doctors thought “there’s no way someone can actually be this insane he’s obviously faking”. That being said if your main source is flora Schreiber I can understand not trusting her judgement because her psychology is outdated and sketchy and it is hard to find written sources that talk about this guy. Just my two cents as a criminology student who sees him pop up in textbooks all the time. Either way your content is amazing and I watch every single video :)

I was wondering as you have studied so many Serial Killer in order to put together such accurate and informative production of your videos if this sometimes is Lack of Nurture? I know this probably wont be a popular question but do you think that in some cases Society Created the Monster???? Such as the case of Aileen Wuornos. Aileen was completely crazy in the end, just watch her interview with Nick? the night before her execution, sonic pressure and the whole bit, so very sad, concerning and troubling. She really never had a chance and I wonder who she would have been if she had be born wanted, loved, nurtured. Awesome as always. Cat
@skd
@skd 3 года назад
First of all, Aileen was not really a monster in my opinion. I believe Tyra was the one to blame, she probably told her that she will leave if she doesn't get her money. Aileen was afraid of abandonment and this was her solution to the problem. And yes, society can create monsters in certain situations, but it's never one factor only. Abuse, bullying, abandonment, mental issues, head injury, neglect, drugs, alcohol. All of these on their own will not create a serial killer. They usually tick more than one box to become one.
