Tony Scalze I got hooked on game of thrones because of Sean Bean- started watching because I like him as an actor. This show was because of Rutger Hauer- same way. (Earl Ragnar’s father Ravn.). And I’ll be dog gone if the show didn’t pull a Game of Thrones on me!!! It may be a smaller budget- but the writing on this show is better and just amazingly addictive.

@@michaelberry1382 The writing is mediocre at times, there are obvious plot holes and moments where people act out of character for the sake of the plot. A massive one in season 2 was, how did Eric know that Athelflaed would be ready for kidnap? In season 4, there's a ridiculous scene where the Mercian guards turn on Eardwulf in a comical fashion, followed by the line "Do not threaten your own men". There are others if I wrote them down as I was watching. Overall, its a great TV show and its partly highly rated because people binge-watch it whilst ignoring the filler and substandard writing, if the show released episodes week by week it'd be far easier to catch

No way. It's better then Vikings Season 5. But Vikings Season 1-4 is way better in every way compared to the brainwashed Uthred who loves the Vikings that killed his entire family and made him a slave.

@@alexandercrush I think The vikings is stil better because of season 1-4 like you, but is a fact that Viking is getting worse and Last kingdon is getting better since came to netflix, the third season is awsome. The base is more strong in last kingdon, because the books of cornwel, the books are so good, is impossible make a bad script with that... in the end of the series, i think The Last Kingdon will be a lot better. (sorry for my english , is not my first language)

Alex Uhtred hates his Saxon family and seen Ragnar as more of a father to him than his real Saxon one so yeah

Yes Vikings is pretty good too but the story telling is more skillful here.

Both shows are great,well made and written even if artistic licence is taken at times.Its roughly the same period in history,really hope that Vikings get to the King Alfred years,they are pretty close now anyway,what with the Great Heathen Army doing the biz at the end of s4,wonder who will play him and how they portray him compared to the Last Kingdom one.

Alex the Vikings charm comes from their way of life. Living freely, taking what they want whenever they want. Also, uhthred isn't a saint. The opposite, he's quite a selfish person. Everything he does comes from a place of greed, he isn't a good person. I felt the same way as you until I realized that.

His father abused him, when the vikings adopted him they showed him love, care, and a sense of family that he never experienced when he was a saxon.

@@alexandercrush His father fucking hated him, Uhtred even said "he was not fond of me," and then there's the time where father goes into a random outburst just because Uhtred said he'd avenge his brother. He was the dane's slave for a short time but after which he became a son to Ragnar who loved him, and treated him like a son and not some kind of useless PoS everytime Uhtred said something. While he lived with the dane's they treated him like a person and family member, Ragnar was a fathee figure that Uhtred's biological could never be.

@@brandonvu5429 LOL. While Uhthred may be greedy from time to time, and rightfully so, he is by no means a bad person....he always does what's right in the end even if it is not the most beneficial route to take in his favor.

So this is you criterium for a TV show: that it forces "interesting female characters" into the story to please you? There must be a billion simplistic feminist TV shows for you to watch then. It's what they did with Vikings, to take just one example. Ruined the show for the rest of us of course, but at least you're happy.

@@alexandercrush Judging by your comments you clearly didn't even watch the full season 1, he ends up fighting vikings on countless occasions, don't talk about the show with such a strong opinion without even digging deep enough into it!

​@@sammclemore6653 I actually watched every season. I know he fights vikings but he only fights random vikings that had nothing to do with the death of his family and village. With the exception of ubba which he did fight. But only out of self defence.

I've seen both, vikings was good for a while, its trash now and this is the bizz
