A massive scissor accident... Haha yeah those pesky scissors! Always look out for those attacking scissors! With that said, great video! Thanks for sharing! You're the best! On a critical note, next time you might want to use a piece of sandpaper to mimic real life scrubbing. Because pvd coatings will wear out due constantly being scrubbed, rubbed and polished by clothes you wear. Still not convinced a pvd coatings will last that long. But it's a bit harder than I thought. Thanks again.
That are massive accidents for one day :-) Thanks for showing, as I am in the process of manufacturing my prototypes and I have chosen to apply a transparent PVD coating for protection reasons. So now I know that is a good thing to do. Thanks again and enjoy your weekend!
i have a pagani design 1661 gold plated via PVD. love it, shines beautifully under the sun. good to hear coating tech now is so much better. safe to say water wont do anything against the coating for few years before i upgrade. itll only ocme off if i get into a motorycle crash or tripped hard down the floor lol
Acidity and exposure to elements can have an affect on coatings! Sort of like a patina. Usually it can be wiped off with a micro fiber cloth, unless it's serious exposure then a coating can get damaged. DLC is more resistant to it from my experience however :-)
Thanks for the reply. Its between the aikon venturer 43mm diver bicolor. Or tudor black bay sg diver. I know the tudor is actual gold rolled over the steel. That will last a life time like solid gold. The aikon venturer is pvd 10 micron 18k. I prefere the look of the aikon more but the tudor being rolled gold not pvd is better quality for the price. If the pvd on the aikon will last for decades to come using it to swim, then i will go with the aikon venturer. How long do you think the pvd on the aikon venturer diver, 10 micron pvd will last. Thanks.
thank you for another great video, i think PVD is a great coating. some of the watches I bought from serious watches have the PVD coating on them, and I have no complaints whatsoever.
Hello! I was wondering if I would be able to gently use some Cape polishing cloth on my stainless steel two- tone yellow gold pvd Raymond Weil Freelancer watch. The bezel has some very minor scuffs. I know you said you don't recommend it, but it's something that always catches my eye. Thanks.
With PVD coatings you can often get a bit of a polish with a felt cloth or even micro fiber one. Cape cod would be possible, but it's a real polishing agent and will remove material. If you do it a few times, likely you will go through the coating. My recommendation would be a sturdy cloth with PVD coatings :-)
Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated!!! I'm happy you mentioned polishing PVD coatings in the video. I was going to try Cape cod on my watch before I saw this video, but I won't now. Saved me from ruining my watch. Thanks again!
Hi i was thinking to buy the Maurice Lacroix aikon venturer bicolor. Its 10 micron pvd 18k gold. Will that last a life time. Swimming at the beach and pool here and there. Whats your opinion thanks.
Your best bet would be a non-Rolex watchmaker or service center that has access to parts :-). Likely Rolex themselves will not touch it, as it has been modified (or insist on replacing non-original parts)
Dude. Give it to a three year old and they’ll discover the precise way to destroy it 30 seconds flat without instruction. *feebly hammers it in his own hand* give over.
It contains gold however, it is a very thin layer of gold. About 1 micron thick if i'm not mistaken, which makes it affordable while still having real gold. I've heard you can add an even thicker layer of gold to someone who knows how to apply the pvd finish, though I do not know how much that would cost.
