You've heard of LRF - well Graeme Pullen, producer of The Totally Awesome Fishing Show thought he would launch his own version - SRF - SERIOUS ROCK FISHING! This one is for anglers who like to get a bend in a big rod, and with Ireland's top shore guide, Paul Harris, they search out rock marks on the Beara Peninsula in Ireland. Some of the places they climb are breathtaking, the scenery nothing short of awe-inspiring. And of course some of the fish photographing is up to their Totally Awesome standard! You get a run-down on Graeme's tackle and approach for SRF - BIG TACKLE, BIG BAITS, BIG FISH! The dynamic duo film plenty of action and if you have never done SRF before, this is the first introduction to it. The base is Adrigole, in South West Ireland, currently turning into one of the more popular places to shore fish. This programme is the ultimate beginners guide to Serious Rock Fishing. Remember the name - SRF!!

I have only beach(surf )fished in America,never rock fished.I think most of it on the East Coast is surf,but more rocks on the West coast. You need to contact an American fishing forum.They should be able to help.

sharks are great to catch, its a real shame, that their population are dropping due to overfishing and fishing trawlers..
@TAFishing

Check out your local tackle shop,but don't let them talk you into something expensive.Some of the cheaper rods made now are fine.I was boat fishing 2 days ago catching Black Bream using a telescopic rod and mini reel that Mike bought in a supermarket for £5 !!! It will deffo break on a big fish,but for normal sizes it was great fun.You want at least 10 foot length.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 лет назад
Sounds like you are rigged and ready to go. Should be fine. Deep water for Pollack/firetails,fish slow. Or try surf beaches with lugworm for flounders/bass. Or worms legered off the rocks for wrasse if the Pollack aren't biting. Try spinning as well. Good luck.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 лет назад
15lb should be OK.But they have toothy critturs swimming over there,so check with a local tackle shop when you get there to see if they advise wire traces.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 лет назад
Crush the barb with a pair of pliers.Cheap hooks generally have a large barb,and even when its crushed,as long as you keep the line tight you shouldn't lose the fish.Freshwater fishing seems to supply barbless,but I don't know if sea hooks have tapped into that yet ?
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 лет назад
Sorry if we missed it.With over 150 films up,plus all the private emails Mike gets we sometimes miss some.Sounds like the wire I used in pike films ? Its called "Tidecheater".No idea where you get it ,I'm still running off ancient stock.More likely to find it in a sea fishing shop than freshwater.Use about 30/lb breaking strain.Try your search engine.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 лет назад
Sounds like the area you are fishing is too snaggy. Have you tried expendable weights like stones, or nuts and bolts. I wouldn't want to keep losing expensive leads. Try moving, or use something other than a lead weight.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 лет назад
Like all anglers we get the hook out when we can.If its deep,its best to cut the line as it should rust out in the salt water.Sometimes its better than spending too long trying to get a hook back.Try crushing the barb.Makes it a lot easier to remove.
@TAFishing

Dorado/Dolphin fish/Mahi Mahi,the same fish,grilled with garlic in a Cabo San Lucas restaurant and a cold beer.Overlooking the marina watching all the marlin flags fluttering !
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 лет назад
Bread really only stays on for one run down a river with a float.When you retrieve it comes off. Its the way it fishes. If you squeeze it on too firmly, it will go hard and the hook will not pull through on the strike. I don't normally leger in a river with bread for the same reason. Try luncheon meat.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 лет назад
You don't say what type of fish so I can't give a specific answer. I would suggest retrieve change first.Faster,then slower. If no strikes change the lure for another action or colour or shape.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 лет назад
No.But I should do. Good fishing and less population density. A lot more space for everyone and lots of untried fishing spots.

That spot is very much like my favourite fishing spot up in Møre, Norway. Caught great 9lbs pollock and 13lbs cod on the rocks!! You should come to Norway sometime, but go further north though. Nord-Norge has produced great cod (including the world record!!), halibut, pollock and more. Plus it's only a short flight from where you are, in the UK.

Generally enough to give you a few coils of it around the reel. Then length of rod, and about 5 feet to whatever rig you are using. Remember the rig should be strong line through to the lead as well.

OK I know this isn't about this video but I was looking through your earlier videos and I have a question about your "how to make like traces" and I was wanting to know what the green cable wire was called and where I can find it. Again I am sorry this wasn't for this video but I never got any response from that video
@ThePhasMan
@ThePhasMan 11 лет назад
Thats a good question? I'd also like to know but perhaps showing it on a video with the blood that would no doubt be visible could cause a number of negative comments. Ideally one could de-barb to do so easily but I can't see sea fishermen losing a hook every fish to be kind.

I used to use s pulley rig these days I use breakaway weak link, on a short 5'' snood, I get far less snags, you loose your lead but not your rig, flat sided weights are best, little to no roll

The west coast of Ireland is a fisherman's paradise. I used to go up north west in county Donegal with my grandad and fish. Caught loads of mackerel, pollock, salmon, sea trout and salmon and wrasse... And the scenery is so beautiful! I do miss going there, haven't been for atleast 15 years.

Hi Graeme. Thank you for the extremely informative video. I was wondering when beach or rock fishing with weight and bait, do you work your bait and drift it along the floor or do you just cast out and wait for a bite?
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 6 лет назад
Generally cast out and leave a big bait static until the fish home in on it.
@Completely_Incomplete
@Completely_Incomplete 6 лет назад
Thank you. I fish on beaches in East Africa, and I have learned from local fishermen handlining from shore that they keep the bait moving, slowly. Moving it up a foot every 15 or 20 seconds. It gets tiresome fast because of all the snagging
@johngeddes7894
@johngeddes7894 4 года назад
TA Fishing You can save a lot of gear by the weight you use. For rock fishing in the US, I like a small cloth drawstring bag half full of sand. Bull Durham sacks they’re called. When your rig hits the water, its lighter and takes its time sinking. Very few rig losses. Some days none! A lighter line to the sack in case it does get snagged. YMMV. Cheers!

depends on the species fish and also just what works on the day, but to induce a strike on fish that aren't commiting you need to change the retrieve once they near the bait. Like I said depends on the fish/day, you might need to twitch, burn or kill the bait to get them to have a go.

My only decent boat trip was as a boy after watching Jaws. We planned a trip with Frank Vinnicombe fishing for sharks. On the day the entire ocean was flat calm and the colour of tomato soup for 25 miles out to sea. We ended up wreck fishing in super deep water with huge leads. My father and I caught nothing during an exceptional day fishing 1500lb of fish caught. We got bites, struck, heaved up to find nothing. We came from the canals of the North and it was a different World. I heard you mention Frank, is he still fishing? Could you do a film with him?

Supposed to be some good shore fishing in that area, but for 40 odd years all I seem to do is drive straight through it to get the ferry over to Ireland.Have shore fished Nash Point,Aberthaw,Barry Island etc for various articles many years ago. It was mostly long casting from low water marks, but some good fish about. Used to be good surf Bass fishing on the Gower, but don't hear much about it nowadays.

Those areas are more swansea side. The shore fishing here in pembrokeshire is first class. Lots of bass, flounder, rays, tope, big huss and conger. Also codling and whiting a plenty this time of year. I fish the breakwater alot in fishguard. Thats where you catch the ferry to ireland. We have an abundance of top quality beaches here, some popular in the summer but also there is a few that are tucked away that you can have all to yourself.
