Have you ever been to the hottest place in Australia? We sure have and we experienced many highs but far too many lows. Just what exactly went wrong? #roadtrip #camping #caravan
Lovely spot by the water , and the fishies where biting 😀, Flies you say 😊, that’s not flies mate , many years ago I did a working holiday around Australia and landed a job on a farm in Western Australia , i was walking through an animal shed , it had a big roller door at either end , and on a bright summers day you couldn’t see sunlight from one end to the other due to the masses of flies , and as you walked, it was like walking on coco pops , yes that was the flies😂😂😂😂 , let me tell you , that’s one job I was very happy to see the ass end of lol .
There’s a nice gorge between the bar and shay gap You need to take note they use 1080 baits and there no antidote for you dog and if he gets a bait it will break your heart get him a muzzle I’ve lived in the area for many years
Beautiful drone footage. That storm was pretty intense!! I reckon those fly nets look like they are must. What fishing spot great great video so much to see. Tyre looked a little worse for ware 😵💫. Thanks for sharing
Love your realistic portrayal of life on the road. Those flies - oh my gosh - such patience. Especially loved the barbecue during the sandstorm - amazing footage of it advancing. Great gorge drone work and Coco obviously loved the water. Hope she found her ball - she certainly worked hard enough to find it. Definitely somewhere we will visit on our trip. Thanks so much for your effort.🌺😁
The lamb chops in the wind cracked me up. You can just imagine the other campers in their vans looking out the window and saying, ”look at those jokers trying to have a barbecue in the wind”. “They probably came up from down south”. Cat fish are good eating and some people like them and the flies, they will be there in winter too. They get into everything including up your nose, in your mouth and in your food. It is a beautiful spot that not many people are lucky enough to experience. Just stunning.
Haha, we absolutely thought the same thing 🤣. Anyway, we had to get the chops done, and it was way too hot in the van to cook. Yep, lve head catfish are great eating. All those flies were putting us off from trying it. Perhaps next time 👍
Thankyou both for sharing your travels and your amazing life, I am so sorry for the tyre shredding hope you will be ok , the places you are visiting are nothing like I ever imagined, please be safe and enjoy your wonderful journey cheers Darrel 👍👏
We love the Pilbara, lived there for several years and head back every chance we get. It’s just majestic and we’re so glad you got to experience it as you did - sans the uber friendly flies 😂 A wee PSA: Your vid went ‘private’ about 14 mins in 😮but came back not long after, phew 😅 & awesome 👍 Love your vids & Happy & Safe travels you two. We look forward to next week ❤✌️
It's such a magical place. We absolutely love the Pilbara. thanks, yep. we had a song move that we tried to fix (although couldn't), then put it back to live 👍
Repellant Most fodder / horse feed shops have Rosemary and sandalwood cream, wrks fantastic, only need a little bit, rub in all over bod great for all bitting critters
Ive been trying to work out that for years, i gind oils of other things at organic shops but never cream. Legend! Like the ol aloe, trick, for burns so easy to grow, if i can, any1 can! Better the spray if dont mind looking green 😅
@carjacklane3930 Not a problem, I first came across it years ago in fodder store while looking for cream to help with bot fly's, this lady who makes it was stocking the shelves, it was in McLaren vale s.a, she gave me a large jar for free and business cards. Told me all about it and uses Said could I please 🙏 call her in a week with feedback. So I did use on myself and horses 🐎 unbloody really it really works. Not cheap but only need a little bit dot on your arms/legs rub in all over, never got bitten by mozies or sand fly's. Can't remember the name, but ring around and see how you go. Happy hunting.
It’s a miracle! Troy caught a fish first cast 😂 Love watching your travels as always! You weren’t around for the dust storm in Melbourne during the 80s? My mum thought the world was ending 😂 Amazing drone footage!
Hi both myself and wife are doing the lap of Australia we set off on 15/01/24 and are heading round the other way, maybe we will cross paths along the way, we will follow you on you travels.
Another great episode, what a beautiful spot is Marble Bar. I think I’m definitely going to have fly net hats if I’m to survive 😅 Great footage, just stunning the colours. Coco is always fun to watch. I wouldn’t mind knowing more about these baits others are talking about. It’s obviously a big issue in NT predominantly? Are you just expected to know or is it signed well? Take care and hope you had a great Easter. Alexandra King Island 🏝️
Thank you for watching, Marble Bar is a great area to explore, but yes, take fly nets 😆 Yep, 1080 baits are very prevalent in WA. They do have signs, although birds pick up the baits and can drop them anywhere. We're comfortable with Coco as she doesn't leave our side. mostly, she'll be in the water swimming or tucked away in our van.
@@Mick_4591 I dont normally respond to keyboard worriers as its a pointless exercise. However, I find your comment to be disgusting, if you have watched their channel you can clearly see the love Laura has for Coco, to suggest she does not care is hurtful. I appreciate there are baits in the area and this is something to be cautious over, but your response is egotistical saying you know more than anyone else. Maybe Coco does not eat food when out? My dog when out will never pick up food so the risk is zero. I appreciate you are concerned for the dog and so am i, just dont jump to conclusions and especially post an idiotic statement that would naturally hurt someone that loves her dog so much.
Seeing the tyre like that reminds me , some years ago I had just come back from a job down the freeway in Melbourne in a semi , i had a low loader on the back , and a motorist come up along side me while I was stopped at the lights and told me I had a flat , I pulled over to have a look and on rear most axle outer there was just the bead of the tyre left on the rim and few bits of string 😊, the worlds full of comedians 😂. I hope you got your tyre sorted alright .
Am catching up with your vids as have just arrived back from Shark Bay and Dirk Hartog Island. Flys were intense, apparently all bad up west coast from unseasonal rains at end of summer. Can empathize significantly. Fly nets were my friend as was sitting in the water. Looking forward to your next episodes.
Cath, sorry but that's great to hear we weren't the only one suffering with the flies. 😂 Interesting to know it's all about the rain. Next time we'll have fly nets each. Thanks so much for watching!
Re losing the tap on your rear tank. Same thing happened to me on our first time off the bitumen. I bought a sheet of gal from Bunnings (about 1000mm x 500mm), folded it to the same dimensions as the existing metalwork, loosened off the tank bolts and slid it in between the tank and existing metalwork in but left it so that it was extending out about 150mm. Haven't had a problem since. Did that to both water tanks and grey water tank.
What a magic spot - hopefully less/no flies in the winter though? Laura sounding exactly like my wife in 3, 2, 1…. 45:48 😂 That’s rough, hope there wasn’t any further damage.
Hi we also did that old track to the top. Wasn’t raining and was nice. There is another track signed by an orange arrow. We didn’t go down that track as we weren’t shore either , but going by what I know now wish I went down it.
Hi Laura and Troy, just to update you again we are a couple of Kiwi’s heading over at the end of the year to spend a couple of years doing what you guys are. We have ordered an L300 in Melbourne and doing an GVM /GCM Lovells upgrade, ( pre rego) we note you have a bull bar without hoops which we love the look of , with a lot of miles under your belt would you go hoop less again ? also can you give your opinion on roof racks and snorkels , we think we will fit these but are concerned about wind noise. We are not doing extreme off road but intend to hopefully go to the top of Cape York. Our van we pick up in Melbourne is a 22.8 Australis Overlander so will be right up at the 3.5 ton weight limit. One last thing , did you fit diff breathers? And would a winch be recommended? it is hard to know what is a nice to have as opposed to a must have , seems the sky’s the limit on how much to spend on the vehicle, we are of the opinion that with a limited budget we may be better to spend our money on experiences rather than ticking all the boxes on the vehicle. Sorry bit of a ramble but we would love and respect your opinions thanks Catherine and Hugh
Heys guys, that's very exciting 😀. We would definitely get a hoop less bar again. We've come across plenty of wildlife, and to be honest, if you hit most of these animals, no bull bar will help your lights or bonnet. plus, it's a lot lighter. The snorkel is quite loud. If you're not going through deep crossing, l wouldn't bother getting it put on. 💯 get a winch, it's great piece of mind, and you can also use it to help others out from time to time. We've found our roof racks not too bad with the wind noise. It's probably the more things you put on the roof that will make it noisy. Hopefully, this helps with your decision. good luck with your new build and safe travels 🙏 oh sorry yes we have diff breathers for the front and rear they're a must and quite cheap to get done 👍
Fresh water "catfish " or silver cobla. You can eat them there quite good if you bake with tomato/onion sliced wrapped in foil. Skin, cut skin around from top of head under side fin watch spikes, to bottom of the fish, can use thumb or pliers to strip off skin to tail fillet or bake hole removing the head, saltn pepper any herbs ya like, 15 mins each side. Ya Will be surprised how good
actually catfish is a good and tasty fish just ask people around lake argyle about silver cobbler and you will be suprised how good it is and you can taste it in their resturant.love your vids. Kris.
Yep, know about the flies in this beautiful country of ours 😅 growing up in north west Qld as kids we'd just leave them on our backs until we got home from school, then we'd chase them off, our sweat would attract them.
spent many days at Carrawine, there when a man jumped off the highest cliff, landed on his back, he lived, we put him on an old mattress and floated him across, in the back of a ute to woodie woodie and flying doctor out, he was so lucky back at work after six months. cat fish on the barbie plate a few beers then back to work at woodie
Well done catching all those entre’ sized fish 🐟, hopefully they were nice eating. Great gorge to stop at, for a couple of nights I think someone needs to listen next time to the lady of the journey…..lol😂😂 look at that tyre!!! Great drone footage of the gorge. Thanks guys.
We got stranded in Marble bar many years ago from memory around 1980 or so after a cyclone dumped huge amounts of water and everything flooded. The road back then between marble bar and Pt Hedland was dirt. They have re routed the road now but I will remember walking into the iron clad hotel to buy a beer and all the stools were vacant so we sat on the 2 nearest then some local walked in looking for a fight saying "thats my stool". Dave wanted to punch him but I said lets just move seats which we did. But I wouldnt go to any of those places unless its winter because the flies are just abominable and insect repellent doesnt faze them. I remember getting attacked by some large flying insects about the size of cockroaches while I was trying to eat a sausage sandwich.
Would google earth in a area that has reception give you a view of the area?? idont know how much real time or close too .. could try it on a area u in at the time or were recently rspecially in woop woop type spots where easy to see where you were camped last
WHAT TIRE PRESSURE DO YOU USE AS A RULE AND WHAT KLMS DO YOU GET OUT OF YOUR TIRES. USE A MAX OF 30 - 35PSI AND MY TIRES HAVE DONE 140000KLMS WITH 7.5MM OF TREAD LEFT
I hope you closed the main vent in your car. I lived in the Pilbara for five years. The day prior to leaving for good we had a dust storm go through. After cleaning the house and had the housing inspection to get our deposit back. I passed that with no worries. Except I left a house covered in afine mist of red power. It was micro fine dust. So I guessI had the last laugh because we got dressed, chucked the bedding in the back of our car and we were gone. The Pilbara has a dry and hot climate. Plenty of thunder and lightening in the right season. No way could we had lived in the Pilbara indefinitely. It's a great place to visit, expensive if don't know anyone with a spare bedroom.
Did you need to get the range extender? Where do you fit this? I was thinking of getting a set just for the van… I can feel if I get a tyre blow out on the car. Have you had the sensors get knocked off by rocks on bad roads or do you take them off? Sounds like they might be a PITA to remove when airing down… 🤔 Love your vids by the way. Watch them religiously. Can’t wait for the next ep 👌
oh Laura i can only imagine your colorful words after all the saluting the flies and then the tyre ..geebuz Troy you really gotta start listening to Laura ..she is a very smart lady but blind Nelly could see that was low low low Aldi selling catfish at the moment and its yummy..Basa fillets....safe travels....oh did Coco get her ball from the reeds?
My goodness my husband and I have never laughed so much really this next level it’s not up north has heaps of flies Ruffin up, we lived in Newman for 6 yrs, everybody knows you would never camp in marble bar, did they not get it when mentioned there’s no one here, I wonder why, please do your research, anyway you gave us a laugh we new exactly what was going to happen, do seasonal travel cheers
Apart from the flies, we're completely happy to camp there at that time of year. its not too often that you get a campground to yourself this day and age. 🥰 👌
Stop it stop it you’re killing me, I am deeply sorry about your little hole in your 600 litre water tank under your luxury apartment. If I had been there., I would have taken one of my canvas water bags off the bull bars of my FJ Holden, the one that came through a real sandstorm, that would take the paint off your vehicle, your little sucker still had patches of blue sky, and Jesus, how the hell did they fly the green grass in.
As has been said b4 Cut the music when your speaking so we can here what your saying. Becoming all too often in videos where music is so loud " viewers can't hear what's being said
Gidday Troy & Laura, enjoying your travels and content. The drain valves on your water tanks are so vulnerable you would be better to buy threaded blank plugs instead of valves. They are usually BSP threads. I thought I noticed tyre pressure monitors on you wheels. Anyway you are giving us inspiration to get away more in the caravan. cheers Jeff & Sharyn Vacy NSW
Stop it you are torturing me, my lungs are aching with laughing, this grin and bear it business.. Jesus you should have been there in Marble bar in 1961 in my FJ Holden, no flabby people, hanging out of an air-conditioned New York apartment, no overweight dogs, dying of boredom. I never saw a domestic dog in the Pilbara. they never survived.
